Motor - Recliner - Backrest - Front Seat (Remove and Replace)

Seat base edges are sharp and can cause personal injury. Wear cut resistant gloves when removing the seat from the vehicle, and while performing procedures that involve work on or near the seat base.

Remove

  1. Remove the driver seat assembly. See FIRST ROW LEFT HAND SEAT COMPLETE (Remove and Install)

    Note
    Protect the seat cushion to avoid damage.
  2. Remove the driver seat lumbar support assembly. See 1ST ROW POWER LUMBAR SEATBACK - LEFT HAND (Remove and Install).
  3. Remove the driver seat outboard side shield carrier. See Carrier - Side Shield - Outboard - LH (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the driver seat inboard side shield carrier. See Carrier - Side Shield - Inboard - LH (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove and discard the clip that attaches the recliner tube to the frame.

    Note
    Work the clip off of the shaft from different angles. Removal from one angle will not remove the clip fully.
  6. Push the driver seat recliner tube through the seat frame so that a small portion of the tube is visible from the other side. Pull the recliner tube through and away from the frame.
  7. Remove the bolt that attaches the recliner motor to the seat back frame.

    Note
    Ensure the alignment dowel on the motor is not damaged. Hold the motor in place while removing the fastener so that the dowel is not damaged during removal.

    TIp
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • 8 mm socket
  8. Remove the recliner motor from the seat back frame.

Install

  1. Position the recliner motor onto the seat back frame.

    Note
    Make sure the alignment dowel is in the correct position.
  2. Hand-tighten the bolt that attaches the recliner motor to the seat back frame.
  3. Push the driver seat recliner tube in from the inboard side of the driver seat assembly, and then push the recliner tube through the seat frame until about 6.7 mm of the tube is visible from the outboard side.

    Note
    Make the metal bumps on the tube engage with the slots of the hole.
  4. With assistance holding the outboard side end of the tube, use a 12mm deep socket and a rubber hammer to tap a new clip (1527040-00-A) onto the inboard side end of the recliner tube.
  5. Torque the bolt that attaches the recliner motor to the seat back frame.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • 8 mm socket
  6. Install the driver seat outboard side shield carrier. See Carrier - Side Shield - Outboard - LH (Remove and Replace).
  7. Install the driver seat inboard side shield carrier. See Carrier - Side Shield - Inboard - LH (Remove and Replace).
  8. Install the driver seat lumbar support assembly. See 1ST ROW POWER LUMBAR SEATBACK - LEFT HAND (Remove and Install).
  9. Install the driver seat assembly. See FIRST ROW LEFT HAND SEAT COMPLETE (Remove and Install)
  10. Calibrate the seat by using the touchscreen. Tap Controls > Service > Driver Seat, Steering & Mirrors Calibration > Start, then follow the instructions on the touchscreen, and allow the process to complete.
  11. Move the driver seat to original position.
  12. Raise the LH windows and close the LH doors.
