Curtain Airbag - LH (Remove and Replace)

  • 2026-02-20: Added note on using PROC_RCM_DISARM if using this procedure to diagnose the SRS.
Warning
If using this procedure to diagnosis the vehicle's Supplemental Restraint Systems (SRS), disarm the RCM, which will prevent all airbags and pretensioners from deploying. Re-arm the RCM after all of the vehicle's SRS components are re-installed.

Warning
Make sure LV power has been disconnected for at least 2 minutes before disconnecting the electrical harness from Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) components, such as Restraint Control Module, sensors, airbags, etc. Failure to do so can result in unintended safety system behaviors. Torque Specifications

 Reuse

Remove

  1. Remove the headliner. See Front Headliner (Remove and Install).
  2. Disconnect the electrical harness from the LH curtain airbag connector.
  3. Remove the bolts (x5) that attach the LH curtain airbag to the body.
    Note
    Do NOT use impact tool to install these self-tapping bolts.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  4. Carefully release the clips (x7) that attach the LH curtain airbag to the side rail, and pull the air bag forward to disengage the hook, and then remove the airbag from the vehicle.
    Warning
    If any clips are damaged, the airbag must be replaced.
    Warning
    The airbag should always be handled by the igniter; the igniter should never be left dangling.

Install

  1. Install the LH curtain airbag to the side rail, and then carefully fasten the clips (x7) that attach the airbag to the side rail.
    Note
    Make sure that the airbag hook is fully seated to the vehicle.
    Warning
    If any clips are damaged, the airbag must be replaced.
  2. Install and hand-tighten the bolts (x5) that attach the LH curtain airbag to the body.
    Note
    Make sure that the tuner and airbag maintain a certain distance and do not interfere.
  3. Tighten the bolts (x5) that attach the LH curtain airbag to the body.
    9 Nm (6.6 lbs-ft)
    Note
    Do NOT use impact tool to install these self-tapping bolts.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  4. Connect the electrical harness to the LH curtain airbag connector.
  5. Install the headliner. See Front Headliner (Remove and Install).
