Door Handle Outer - Passive - LH - Front (Remove and Install)

Warning
The side impact airbag deployment depends on the rear door sensor's ability to detect a side impact from air pressure. Make sure that there are no uncovered holes in the rear door shells. Additionally, always reinstall plugs or tape when servicing or inspecting the rear doors and their components.

Remove

  1. Remove the LH front door closeout panel assembly. See Closeout Panel - Window Regulator - Front Door - LH (Remove and Replace).
    Note
    It is not necessary to remove the LH front door pressure sensor, window motor, door speaker and the window regulator from the door closeout panel assembly.
  2. Disconnect the LH front door handle connector.
  3. Remove the plugs (x2) that cover access to the LH front door exterior release handle nuts.
  4. Remove and discard the nuts (x3) that attach the LH front exterior door handle to the door panel, and then remove the handle from the door.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm deep socket

Install

  1. Position the LH front exterior door handle to the vehicle, and then hand-tighten new nuts (x3) that attach the exterior door handle to the door panel.
  2. Use the gap and flush tool to check the gap and flush of the handle to the door surface.
    Note
  3. Tighten the nuts (x3) that attach the exterior door handle to the door panel.
    7 Nm (5.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm deep socket
  4. Install the plugs (x2) that cover access to the LH front door exterior release handle nuts.
  5. Connect the LH front door handle connector.
  6. Install the LH front door closeout panel assembly. See Closeout Panel - Window Regulator - Front Door - LH (Remove and Replace).
