CRUSH CAN ASSEMBLY - Left Hand (Remove and Install)

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  3. On the touchscreen, touch Service Mode > Thermal > Coolant System > Start Thermal Fill/Drain and select Run to start the routine.
  4. Remove the HEPA filter assembly. See SERVICE KIT - HEPA AND CARBON FILTERS (Remove and Replace).
  5. Disconnect the LV battery. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  6. Remove the front fascia assembly. See FRONT FASCIA (Remove and Install).
  7. Remove the cooling fan module. See COOLING FAN MODULE (Remove and Replace).
  8. Remove the front bumper beam assembly. See FRONT BUMPER BEAM (Remove and Replace).

    Note
    It is not necessary to remove the LH and RH accelerometer sensors and the beam foam from the front bumper beam assembly.
  9. Release the clip that attaches the LH main harness to the LH front upper crush can.
  10. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH front upper crush can to the vehicle.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
  11. Remove and discard the bolts (x4) that attach the LH front upper crush can to the vehicle, and then remove the crush can from the vehicle.

Install

  1. Position the LH front upper crush can into the vehicle, and then install new bolts (x4) that attach the crush can to the vehicle.

  2. Install the bolt that attaches the LH front upper crush can to the vehicle.

  3. Install the clip that attaches the LH main harness to the LH front upper crush can.
  4. Install the front bumper beam assembly. See FRONT BUMPER BEAM (Remove and Replace).
  5. Install the cooling fan module. See COOLING FAN MODULE (Remove and Replace).
  6. Install the front fascia assembly. See FRONT FASCIA (Remove and Install).
  7. Perform a cooling system vacuum refill. See Cooling System - Vacuum Refill.
  8. Connect the LV battery. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  9. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  10. On the touchscreen, perform the following steps.
    1. Touch Service Mode > Thermal > Coolant System > Stop Thermal Fill Drain to complete the routine.
    2. Touch Service Mode > Thermal > Coolant System > Coolant Purge Start and select Run to start the routine, and allow the routine to complete.

      Note
      Make sure vehicle is not in Drive, shifting the vehicle into Drive will stop this routine. The test will last approximately 10 mins. The test will vary speeds from 3500-6500 RPM (idle speed = ~1500 RPM) and actuate the valve between series and parallel. If speed hovers at 7000 RPM, it indicates the pump is air locked, perform the vacuum fill again. Continue to add coolant and purge until the coolant level reaches between the NOM and MAX Lines on the bottle.
  11. Install the front valance. See Front Undertray - Valance Front Fascia (Remove and Replace).
  12. Install the LH and RH front fender garnishes. See Fender Garnish - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  13. Install the center headlamp. See Lightbar - Front (Remove and Install).
  14. Inspect the coolant level and top off as necessary, and then install the coolant bottle cap.

    Note
    Ensure that the coolant level is at the "Max" line.
  15. Install the cabin intake duct. See Duct - Air Intake (Remove and Replace).
  16. Install the HEPA filter assembly. See SERVICE KIT - HEPA AND CARBON FILTERS (Remove and Replace).
  17. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  18. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  19. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
  20. Remove the vehicle from the lift.
