ELECTRIC STEERING COLUMN - LEFT HAND DRIVE (Remove and Replace)

  • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
Reuse

Remove

  1. Remove steering column upper gap hider from steering column. See INSTRUMENT PANEL STEERING COLUMN UPPER GAP HIDER (Remove and Replace).
  2. Disconnect IP harness connector from electronic steering column.
  3. Release steering shaft boot from bulkhead and pull into vehicle.

    Note
    Release from one point and work your way around.
  4. Remove bolt securing steering gear assembly to electric steering column.

    TIp
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm deep socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  5. Slide electric steering column upward to remove it from steering gear assembly.

    Note
    May need to wiggle or use dead blow to help separate.
  6. Remove nuts securing steering securing steering column to cross car beam.

    TIp
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm deep socket
    • 3/8 inch ratchet with rotary disc changeover RTCH-REV-3/8IN-72TEETH-L175MM ZEBRA
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
  7. Remove steering column from vehicle.

Install

  1. Position steering column through IP and into place for installation.
  2. Install lower nuts securing steering column to cross car beam.
    15 Nm (11.1 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Make sure that the steering column control module is properly seated.
    • 13 mm deep socket
    • 3/8 inch ratchet with rotary disc changeover RTCH-REV-3/8IN-72TEETH-L175MM ZEBRA
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
  3. Slide intermediate shaft assembly downward to install it to steering gear assembly.
  4. Install bolt securing intermediate shaft assembly to steering gear assembly.
    18 Nm (13.3 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Make sure that the steering column control module is properly seated.
    • 13 mm deep socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  5. Secure steering shaft boot into position on bulkhead.
  6. Connect IP harness connector to electronic steering column.
  7. Install steering column upper gap hider to steering column. See INSTRUMENT PANEL STEERING COLUMN UPPER GAP HIDER (Remove and Replace).
