Fixed Roof Glass (Model Y Standard) (Remove and Replace)

  • GLASS REMOVAL KIT, WRD SPIDER 3

Remove

  1. Remove the headliner assembly. See Headliner Assembly (Model Y Standard) (Remove and Replace).
  2. Prepare WRD Spider 3 glass removal kit.
  3. Apply tape to body surrounding roof glass.
  4. Use equalizer to separate two datums from roof glass.

    2x datums, One datum is located in the front center of the roof glass, and one datum is located in the left rear of the roof glass, slide equalizer up against datums and carefully separate adhesive from windshield, note you may not be able to see the datum clearly but you can feel for it using the blade, release the datum as it will aid in the cutting process.
  5. Loop nylon string through wire starter.
  6. Insert tool through roof glass urethane at rear corner.

    Take caution when doing this, avoid damage to painted surfaces, and use the protective shield.
  7. Pull nylon string through.

    Ensure you pull enough nylon string through to wrap around the perimeter of the glass, both ends of the nylon string can stay inside the vehicle interior and does not need to pulled through completely.
  8. Route nylon string around the glass.

    Make sure nylon string is placed under the seals, do not damage seals of front windshield and liftgate.
  9. Attach anchor point to interior of fixed roof glass assembly and secure line.
  10. Install nylon string onto spider cutting tool

    Follow instructions on spider tool, feed line through opening of the cutting tool and tie a knot to secure in place, if spindle is not turned the proper direction the cutting tool will be damaged.
  11. Secure spider cutting tool to interior side of fixed roof glass.

    Note orientation of the cutting line, make sure line warps over large pully and holds at a 90 degree angle.
  12. Secure angle driver to electric drill.
  13. Use electric drill to cut urethane around roof glass.

    2x datums, 4x roof brackets, Take precaution to make sure the line goes above the datums and the roof brackets, If the line gets caught on the roof bracket then the line will break, Apply upward pressure to the line as it cuts, Suggest using the guard or a trim tool to apply pressure, If the line gets stuck then try to pull it backwards in order release from under metal roof bracket, You can also try swapping position of the anchor and cutting tool if the line is caught.
  14. Remove cutting tools.

    Discard used nylon string, return tools to kit.
  15. Remove roof glass from vehicle.

    4x suction cup tools, Secure suction cups to roof glass at each corner, Recommend assistance.
  16. Remove old urethane from body.

    Ensure residual urethane is 1 mm or less in thickness.
  17. Remove any broken datums.

Install

  1. Place new roof glass on support stand and prepare for installation.

    Recommend assistance, prepare for installation and remove any protective or adhesive covers.
  2. Attach suction cups to new roof glass.

    4x suction cup tools.
  3. Wipe urethane path on body and roof glass with IPA.

    Allow 1 minute dry time.
  4. Remove tape from body surrounding roof glass.
  5. Apply urethane primer to body and roof glass along urethane path.

    Allow primer to dry for 2 minutes before applying urethane, if using Sika 258 sealant, please use Sika special activator Pro as shown in the orange item in the picture.
  6. Prepare caulking gun and urethane.

    Opening must be 12.5mm wide and 20mm tall.
  7. Apply urethane to body.

    Urethane should go around the inside of the roof bracket.
  8. Position roof glass onto vehicle.

    Recommend assistance, Align datums at front and rear of glass to body.
  9. Verify gap and flush of roof glass and adjust as needed.

    Use current CVIS specifications and adjust glass as needed.
  10. Press glass onto body once in position.

    Use sandbags if needed.
  11. Apply tape to secure roof glass.
  12. Remove suction cups from roof glass.
  13. Inspect the regulator guide blocks for glass splinters or other debris, and clean them if necessary.

    CAUTION
    Debris and splinters may damage or shatter the new door glass.
  14. Install the headliner assembly. See Headliner Assembly (Model Y Standard) (Remove and Replace).
  15. Remove tape securing roof glass to vehicle once urethane has cured.

    Please follow the minimum departure time set by the adhesive manufacturer, Dow Betaseal Express takes at least 1 hour to cure (temperature -18℃ or higher), Henkel and Sika takes at least 8 hours to cure (best conditions: Temperature 23℃, relative humidity 50%), park the vehicle indoors, if necessary, please paste tape on the glass of the vehicle, press and fix, and inform the customer to remove the tape after 24 hours. At the same time, customers are advised to avoid driving at high speeds and avoid speed bumps for the next 24 hours
