 Replace

Remove

  1. Place the vehicle on the 2-post lift.

    Ensure the vehicle is not charging.
  2. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  3. Place the vehicle in Service Mode by using the touchscreen. See Service Mode.
  4. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  5. Run PROC_EPB_X_SERVICE-MODEvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode:
    • Chassis ➜ Brakes ➜ EPB Service Mode
    • Chassis ➜ Brakes ➜ EPB Service Mode
    via Service Mode Plus: Drive Unit ➜ Rear Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Release / Re-Engage Emergency Parking Brake
  6. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the LH rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  8. Disconnect the LH rear EPB caliper connector.
  9. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH rear EPB harness bracket to the LH rear caliper.

    • 4 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  10. Remove the LH rear brake hose. See Brake Hose - Rear - LH - Base (Remove and Replace).
  11. Remove and discard the bolts (x2) that attach the LH rear brake caliper to the knuckle.

Install

  1. Install new bolts (x2) that attach the LH rear brake caliper to the knuckle.
    83 Nm (61.2 lbs-ft)

    • 3/8 in to ½ in adapter
    • External Torx E18
    • Breaker bar
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  2. Install the LH rear brake hose. See Brake Hose - Rear - LH - Base (Remove and Replace).
  3. Install the bolt that attaches the LH rear EPB harness bracket to the LH rear caliper.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)

  4. Connect the LH rear EPB caliper connector.
  5. Remove the oil drain from underneath the LH rear brake hose area.
  6. Lower the vehicle to a comfortable working height and set the lift onto locks.
  7. Perform a brake fluid bleed on the LH rear brake. See Brake Fluid Bleed - One Caliper (Remove and Replace).

    Perform step 8 before performing the stiffness test.
  8. Run PROC_EPB_X_SERVICE-MODEvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode:

  9. Disconnect Toolbox from the vehicle.
  10. Install the LH rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  11. Install the rear apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  12. Remove the vehicle from the lift.
  13. Perform a road test and burnish the brakes. See Brake Pads - Burnishing.
