Windshield (RHD) (Remove and Replace)

  • 1626414-00-A - OHC FASTENER TRACK, MY (BERLIN) (1)
  • 1107660-00-A - SPACER, M3 WSHLD (2)
  • 1499060-00-B - MY WSHLD EDGE SEAL (1)
  • 1640994-01-A - MY WSHLD DATUM PADS EPDM NORDEL 4640 -UPPER & SIDE (11)
  • 1571168-00-A - GLASS REMOVAL KIT, WRD SPIDER 3
  • 1080599-00-A - VACUUM CUPS (SET OF 2)
  • 1064740-00-A - SCRAPER, RAZOR BLADE
  • 2146628-00-A - KIT_Sika 258 & Activator Pro

Remove

  1. Place the vehicle in Service Mode by using the touchscreen. See Service Mode.
  2. Remove the cowl screen. See .
  3. Disconnect the windshield heater connector, and then use tape to fix the windshield heater harness to the windshield.
  4. Disconnect the LV battery power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  5. Remove the forward facing camera fan. See Fan - Camera - Forward Facing (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the forward facing camera. See Bi-Cam - Forward Facing (Remove and Install).
  7. Disconnect the temperature and humidity sensor (THS) connector.
  8. Remove the windshield harness from the windshield bracket.
  9. Remove the LH and RH upper A-pillar trims. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  10. Remove the LH and RH sun visors. See Sun Visor - LH (Remove and Replace).
  11. Partially release the front end of the headliner.

    Note
    Take care not to bend the headliner. Replace any damaged clips.
  12. Release the windshield harness from the hooks (x6) at the OHC (Overhead Console) fastener track and move the harness aside.
  13. Remove and discard the OHC fastener track from the windshield.
  14. Use equalizer to separate the datums (x2) from the windshield upper corners.

    Note
    Slide the equalizer up against the datums and carefully separate the adhesive from the windshield. Note you may not be able to see the datum clearly but you can feel it using the blade. Release the datum to aid in the cutting process.
  15. Apply tape to the exterior of the A-pillars and the roof to protect paint and the roof glass.
  16. Prepare WRD Spider 3 glass removal kit (1571168-00-A).
  17. Secure the wire to the starter tool and push the tool through the urethane at the RH lower side of the windshield assembly.

    Use the guard to prevent damage to the dash pad while using the starter tool.

    Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface for the entirety of the curing process.
  18. Release the line from the starter tool and wrap the line around the exterior of the windshield.

    Pull the line away from the starter tool. Make sure enough length is pulled through.

    Verify the line sits underneath the glass.
  19. Attach the anchor point to the exterior of the windshield near the starting point of the handle tool, and then secure the line to the anchor.
  20. Secure the interior side of the line to the Spider cutting tool.

    Follow the instructions on the Spider tool. Feed the line through the opening of the cutting tool and tie a knot to secure the line in place. If the spindle is not turned the proper direction, the cutting tool will be damaged.
  21. Secure the Spider cutting tool to the interior side of the windshield.

    Note
    Note the orientation of the cutting line. Make sure the line wraps over the large pulley and holds a 90 degree angle.
  22. Secure the angle driver to the electric drill.
  23. Turn the spindle on the cutting tool with the drill to start removing the windshield.

    During the operation, use protective devices to protect the instrument panel.

    When passing the VIN plate, use the guard to guide the line over the plate to prevent damage.

    Take special care in the areas identified that have overlapping panels to prevent damage.

    Note
    Move the cutting tool as needed, keeping the line close to a 90 degree angle.
  24. Remove the glass removal kit from the windshield.
  25. Attach suction cups to the windshield on both sides.
  26. With assistance, lift the windshield up to remove it from the vehicle.

    Note
    Pay attention to the windshield harness. Partially close the hood for clearance.
  27. Remove the old urethane from the body.
  28. Remove the tape from the exterior of both A-pillars and the roof glass.

Install

  1. Measure the resistance of the windshield heater grid at an ambient temperature of 23+/-2 degrees Celsius to check if it is able to be reused.

    Note
    The normal range of WHP is resistance is 3.86~3.16 ohm. The normal range of camera heating is 2.57~2.11 ohm. If resistance is outside tolerance, replace the windshield.
  2. Use a scraper to remove the old urethane from the windshield.
  3. Use an eraser wheel to clean the double-sided tape residue.
  4. Remove and discard the windshield edge seal from the windshield.
  5. Use IPA wipes to clean all the mating surfaces, and allow 1 minute to dry.
  6. Install the datum pins (x2) onto the windshield.

    Remove the adhesive backings and position the pins inside the markings.
  7. Install the new OHC fastener track (1626414-00-A) onto the windshield.

    The windshield is marked with the alignment guides.
  8. Install the new windshield spacers (x2) (1107660-00-A).

    Note
    There will be alignment marks on the glass for the installation of the net pads.
  9. Install the new windshield edge seal (1499060-00-B) onto the windshield.

    Start from one corner and peel the tape as applying inch by inch to ensure proper fitment.
  10. Install the windshield edge seal spacers (x11) (1640994-01-A).

    Note
    There will be alignment marks on the glass for the installation of the net pads.
  11. Wipe the urethane path on the vehicle and allow 1 minute to dry.
  12. Apply urethane primer to the windshield and vehicle body along the old urethane path.

    Allow the primer to dry for at least 2 minutes before applying urethane.

    Note
    If using Sika 258 sealant, please use Sika special activator Pro as the orange item shown in the picture.
  13. Prepare the caulking gun and urethane.

    The urethane opening must be 8mm wide and 13mm tall.
  14. Apply urethane to the windshield following the primer path.
  15. With an assistant, install the windshield assembly onto the vehicle, but do not set it yet.
  16. Check the gap and flush of the windshield assembly to the body before fully seating the windshield assembly.

    Note
    Use current CVIS specifications and adjust the glass as needed.
  17. Fully seat the windshield assembly, check the gap and flush, and adjust if necessary.
  18. Apply tape to secure the windshield to body while the urethane cures.
  19. Remove the suction cups from the windshield assembly.
  20. Secure the windshield harness to the hooks (x6) at the OHC fastener track.
  21. Install the front end of the headliner, and pull the seal over the headliner.
  22. Install the LH and RH sun visors. See Sun Visor - LH (Remove and Replace).
  23. Install the LH and RH upper A-pillar trims. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  24. Install the forward facing camera fan. See Fan - Camera - Forward Facing (Remove and Replace).
  25. Install the forward facing camera. See Bi-Cam - Forward Facing (Remove and Install).

    Note
    Do not install the rear view mirror at this time.
  26. Connect the THS connector.
  27. Secure the windshield harness to the windshield bracket.
  28. Release the windshield heater harness, and then connect the windshield heater connector.
  29. Connect the LV battery power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  30. Install the cowl screen. See .
  31. Perform the forward facing camera pitch verification. See Camera - Forward Facing (Pitch Verification) (Test/Adjust).
  32. Install the rear view mirror. See Rear View Mirror (Remove and Replace).
  33. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  34. Remove the tape that secures the windshield to the vehicle once the urethane has cured.

    Note
    Please follow the minimum departure time set by the adhesive manufacturer. Different adhesive takes different time to cure.
  35. The vehicle needs to be driven by the customer to complete the calibration procedure. During this time the DAS functions will be completely unavailable.
