FRONT BUMPER BEAM (Remove and Replace)

Torque Specifications

Replace 1536481-00-A

Remove

  1. Disconnect LV battery. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  2. Remove the front bumper beam foam. See Bumper Beam Foam (Remove and Replace).

    Note
    It is not necessary to separate the pressure sensors from the front bumper beam foam.
  3. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH ankle catcher bracket to the front bumper beam.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  4. Disconnect the LH accelerometer sensor connector.
  5. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH accelerometer sensor to the front bumper beam, and then move the sensor from the vehicle.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  6. Repeat step 3 through step 5 on the right side of the vehicle.
  7. Remove and discard the bolts (x4) that attach the front bumper beam to the LH and RH crush cans.

    • 15 mm socket
  8. Use a pry bar to release the front bumper beam from the LH and RH crush cans.

    CAUTION
    Do not damage the body when prying the front bumper.

    TIp
    Slightly tap the front bumper beam with a dead blow hammer to assist with removal of the front bumper.
  9. Remove the front bumper beam from the vehicle.

Install

  1. Position the front bumper beam to the vehicle.
  2. Use a dead blow hammer to install the front bumper beam to the LH and RH crush cans.
  3. Install new bolts (x4) that attach the front bumper beam to the LH and RH crush cans.
    75 Nm (55.3 lbs-ft)

  4. Install the bolt that attaches the LH accelerometer sensor to the front bumper beam.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)

  5. Connect the LH accelerometer sensor connector.
  6. Install the bolt that attaches the LH ankle catcher bracket to the front bumper beam.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)

  7. Repeat step 4 through step 6 on the right side of the vehicle.
  8. Install the front bumper beam foam. See Bumper Beam Foam (Remove and Replace).
  9. Connect LV battery. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
