Remove
- Disconnect the LV battery. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
- Remove the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
-
Support the front drive unit with an
underhoist stand (1081765-00-A).
NotePlace a show towel between the underhoist stand and front drive unit.
-
Remove the bolt that
attaches the front drive unit to the front subframe.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 18 mm socket
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- Carefully lower the front underhoist stand until the front drive unit oil pump is accessible.
- Position an oil drain container under the front drive unit oil filter area.
- Pull the red locking tab to disconnect the oil pump connector, and then remove and discard the oil filter from the front drive unit.
-
Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the
oil pump to the front drive unit.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Socket 1/4in Dr EP10 - 1451830-00-A
- Torque wrench with angle measurement
-
Carefully remove the oil pump away from the front drive unit, and then allow the oil
to drain.
NoteUse the front drive unit casting as leverage to loosen the oil pump.
-
Remove the fill plug from
the front drive unit.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 8 mm socket
- Wait for 10 minutes for the oil to naturally flow out until it reaches the droplet state.
-
Inspect the 3 O-rings on the removed oil pump, the O-ring on the removed
fill plug, and the seal on the removed oil filter. Make sure that no O-ring
or seal is left in the housing or damaged.
NoteReplace all damaged components.
Install
-
Install the new oil pump assembly to
the front drive unit.
NoteInspect the o-rings for damage and replace if necessary.NoteLightly coat the O-rings with clean KAF 1.
-
Install the bolts (x2) that attach the
oil pump to the front drive unit.5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft) + 20 degreesTIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Socket 1/4in Dr EP10 - 1451830-00-A
- Torque wrench with angle measurement
-
Install the new oil filter to the
front drive unit.3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft) + 135 degreesNoteLubricate the seal before installation.TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Oil filter socket
- 21 mm socket
- ¼ in to 3/8 in adapter
- Torque wrench with angle measurement
- Set up the fill kit with KAF 1, fill the measuring container to 1500ml.
- Connect the 12V power supply to the oil pump.
-
Install the fluid transfer pump.
NoteTrim both the input and output hoses to 26", insert the output hose into the fill hole until fully seated, and then pull back 5mm.
- Place the measured fluid container in the drain basket, fully submerge the input hose, then prime the pump with KAF 1 fluid.
-
With assistance, pump KAF 1 fluid into
the front drive unit.
NoteThe assistant will run the oil pump switch box using XP-10 Jump Pack and have the front drive unit fill plug ready for installation.NoteDo not run the pump dry. Pump 5 full strokes from fluid container while simultaneously running the oil pump switch box for entire fill process. Keep running the oil pump switch box until the drain plug is installed in the next step. If the pump is not running or the drain plug is not installed, fluid will drain from plug within 10 seconds.NoteThe minimum refill capacity of the front drive unit assembly is 2.1 liters. Using excess gearbox fluid in the fill container allows the oil pump to dispense the full 2.1L without drawing air. Make sure that there is less than 200mL left when completed. Pumping the full 2.3 liters is not required.
-
Install the fill plug to the front
drive unit.15 Nm (11.1 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 8 mm socket
- Disconnect the 12V power supply tool from the oil pump.
- Connect the oil pump connector.
- Remove the oil drain container from underneath the vehicle.
-
Install the bolt that attaches the
front drive unit to the front subframe.80 Nm (59.0 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 18 mm socket
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- Remove the underhoist stand.
- Install the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
- Connect the LV battery power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
- Locally connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
