Remove
- Open the RH front door and lower the RH front window.
- Remove the front wheel caps. See Cap - Wheel - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the front wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Remove the RH outer tie rod end. See Tie Rod Outer - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the cooling fan module assembly. See Cooling Fan Module (Remove and Replace).

Remove and discard the bolt that
attaches the steering column to the steering gear assembly.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- SOCKET, 1/4" DR., DEEP, MAGNETIC, 13MM
NoteIf need, turn the steering wheel slightly to ensure that the bolt is in a convenient position for removal, then use a magnetic pickup tool to assist in removing the bolt. -
Turn the steering wheel to the
leftmost position and secure it using a steering wheel level to ensure it remains
horizontal and cannot rotate freely.

Slide the steering column upward to
disconnect it from the steering gear assembly.

Release the locking tabs and
disconnect the upper steering gear connectors (x2).
-
Release the locking tabs and
disconnect the lower steering gear connectors (x2).
-
Move the steering harness aside.
-
Disconnect the front subframe harness
connector.
-
Release the clip that attaches the
radiator inlet hose to the LH front rail harness bracket.
-
Release the clips (x2) that attach the
main front harness bracket to the LH front rail.
-
Remove the inner bolts (x2) that
attach the steering gear assembly to the front subframe.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- SKT, 3/8" DR, SWIVEL, 18MM
-
Remove the outer bolts (x2) that
attach the steering gear assembly to the front subframe.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- SKT 3/8" DR, SHALLOW, 15MM
-
Slide the steering gear assembly to
the LH side of the steering gear assembly, then maneuver the RH side upward to remove it
from the vehicle.
NoteDo not damage any components.
Install
-
Mark the threads on the RH inner tie
rod and nut on the new steering gear assembly using a paint pen.
NoteMark the original location to assist in reinstalling to the similar position.

Loosen the jamb nut on the LH outer
tie rod, and then turn the outer tie rod end counterclockwise to remove tie rod end from
the new steering gear assembly.
80 Nm (59.0 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:- Combination Wrench 12pt 21mm

With assistance, turn the steering
rack assembly fully to the right using a wrench to disperse the pressure.

Install the steering gear into the
vehicle.
-
Loosely install the bolts (x4) that
attach the steering gear assembly to the front subframe.
-
Torque the inner bolts (x2) that
attach the steering gear assembly to the front subframe.
75 Nm (55.3 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:- SKT, 3/8" DR, SWIVEL, 18MM

Torque the outer bolts (x2) that
attach the steering gear assembly to the front subframe.
47 Nm (34.7 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:- SKT 3/8" DR, SHALLOW, 15MM
-
Secure the clips (x2) that attach the
main front harness bracket to the LH front rail.
-
Secure the clip that attaches the
radiator inlet hose to the LH front rail harness bracket.
-
Connect the front subframe harness
connector.
-
Engage the locking tabs and connect
the upper steering gear connectors (x2).
-
Engage the locking tabs and connect
the lower steering gear connectors (x2).
-
Slide the steering column downward to
install it onto the steering gear assembly.
NoteEnsure the intermediate shaft is aligned and fully seated.
- Install the cooling fan module assembly. See Cooling Fan Module (Remove and Replace).
- Install the RH outer tie rod end. See Tie Rod Outer - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Install the front wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Install the front wheel caps. See Cap - Wheel - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).

Remove the locking steering wheel tool
and steering wheel level, then turn the steering wheel to the center position.

Select to confirm that the steering wheel is in center position.
NoteInspect whether the steering wheel illustration is approximately at 0 degrees. If the steering wheel is off by ±360 degrees, the steering column and steering gear assembly must be reinstalled accordingly.

Install new bolt that attaches the
steering column to the steering gear assembly.
18 Nm (13.3 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:- SOCKET, 1/4" DR., DEEP, MAGNETIC, 13MM
NoteIf need, turn the steering wheel slightly to ensure that the bolt is in a convenient position for removal, then use a magnetic pickup tool to assist in installing the bolt. - Raise the RH front window and close RH front door.
- Refer to the Alignment Requirement tables to determine whether an EPAS alignment check (EC) or four wheel alignment check (AC) is necessary. If performed, add the alignment check/adjust as a separate activity. See Alignment Requirement - Suspension.
- Reinstall the software. See Software Reinstall - Touchscreen.
