Remove

  1. Move the vehicle to a 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Stands.
  2. Unlock the gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  3. On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap Thermal > Coolant System > Start Thermal Fill/Drain > Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  4. Disconnect the LV battery. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  5. Using the steering wheel holder, lock the steering wheel into position.
  6. Perform high voltage disablement procedure. See Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure.
  7. Remove the underhood storage unit from vehicle. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  8. Remove the air intake duct from vehicle. See Duct - Air Intake (Remove and Replace).
  9. Remove bolt securing steering gear assembly to electric steering column.

  10. Disconnect steering column to steering gear assembly.
  11. Disconnect front drive unit front subframe harness connector.
  12. Disconnect steering gear motor upper-half connectors.
  13. Remove the front fascia assembly. See Front Fascia (Remove and Replace).
  14. Remove bolts securing front end carrier to LH and RH front subframe crash cans.

  15. Raise vehicle partially and lower lift onto locks.
  16. Remove bolt securing RH front brake hose bracket to knuckle.

  17. Remove RH front brake caliper from RH front knuckle.

  20. Release nut and bolt securing RH front upper control arm to knuckle.

  21. Repeat step 16 through step 20 on the LH side of the vehicle.
  22. Raise vehicle fully and lower lift onto locks.
  23. Remove RH front stabar link end from front stabilizer bar.

  24. Remove nut and bolt securing RH strut to RH front lower lateral link.

  25. Perform steps 23 - 24 for the LH side.
  26. Remove clip securing steering gear harness to harness bracket.
  27. Disconnect steering gear motor lower-half connectors.
  28. Remove bolt securing RH front wheel liner to skid plate.

  29. Remove clip securing RH wheel liner to body.
  30. Use bungee strap to pull back RH front wheel liner.
  31. Position coolant drain container underneath RH front of HV battery.
  32. Disconnect front drive unit inverter inlet hose to rear powertrain return hose and plug hoses.
  33. Position coolant drain container underneath front drive unit.
  34. Disconnect front drive unit powertrain return hose from the front drive unit heat exchanger.
  35. Remove coolant drain container from underneath vehicle.
  36. Remove bolt securing LH front wheel liner to skid plate.

  37. Remove front skid plate. See High Voltage Battery Assembly - Front Skid Plate Assembly (Remove and Replace).
  38. Remove bolt securing front drive unit ground strap to front drive unit.

  39. Remove front drive unit ground strap harness clip from front drive unit.
  40. Put on HV insulating gloves and leather over gloves.
  41. Remove bolt securing front drive unit HV harness to front drive unit.

  42. Release front drive unit HV harness connector.

  43. Release front drive unit HV harness from casting and move aside.
  44. Remove HV insulating gloves.
  45. Remove both sides larger bolts securing rear portion of front subframe to body.

  46. Position powertrain subframe lift underneath front of vehicle
  47. Connect air supply to subframe lifting tool.
  48. Raise powertrain table and subframe fixture into position.

    Latch the subframe to subframe lifting tool, make sure the subframe and front drive unit align to the subframe fixture.
  49. Remove bolts securing LH and RH motor mounts to LH and RH motor mount isolators.

  54. Remove harness clip from left hand mount assembly.
  55. Remove and discard the bolts (x3) that attach the LH mount to the body, and then remove left hand mount assembly.

Install

  1. Position the left hand mount assembly to the vehicle, and then install new bolts (x3) that attach the LH mount to the body.
    35 Nm (25.8 lbs-ft) + 55 degrees

  2. Install harness clip to left hand mount assembly.
  3. Position lifting tool and subframe and front drive unit assembly to under vehicle for installation.
  4. Loosely intall both sides bolts securing mid portion of the front frame to body.
    50 Nm (36.9 lbs-ft)

  16. Lower powertrain table.
  17. Disconnect air supply from subframe lifting tool.
  18. Remove powertrain subframe lift from underneath front of vehicle.
  19. Put on HV insulating gloves and leather over gloves.
  20. lnstall front drive unit HV harness to casting.
  21. Install front drive unit HV harness connector to front drive unit.

    Note
    Align connector to front drive unit then remove HV connector lever lock before fully latching connector. Once installed, verify that the latch is not damaged and fully secured in the latched position.
  22. Install bolt securing front drive unit HV harness to front drive unit.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)

  24. Install bolt securing front drive unit ground strap to front drive unit.

  25. Install the front skid plate. See High Voltage Battery Assembly - Front Skid Plate Assembly (Remove and Replace).
  26. Position coolant drain container underneath RH front of HV battery.
  27. Connect front drive unit inverter inlet hose to rear powertrain return hose

    Perform push-pull test to verify hoses are fully engaged. If the coolant loss is greater then 1L, vacuum fill will be required. See Cooling System - Vacuum Refill.
  28. Position coolant drain container underneath front drive unit.
  29. Install front drive unit powertrain return hose to front drive unit heat exchanger.

    Perform push-pull-push test to make sure hose is fully engaged.
  30. Remove coolant drain container from underneath vehicle.
  31. Release RH front wheel liner from bungee strap.
  32. Install clip securing steering gear harness to harness bracket.
  33. Connect steering gear motor lower-half connectors.
  34. Loosely install bolt and nut securing LH strut to LH front lower lateral link.
    106 Nm (78.2 lbs-ft)

  44. Repeat step 39 through step43 on the LH side of the vehicle.
  45. Install hub jack adapter onto LH front hub.
  46. Position and raise support stand to simulate LH front suspension at ride height.
  47. Measure from bottom of fender to center of axle as a check to make sure LH suspension is set close to ride height.
  48. Torque bolt and nut securing LH strut to LH front lower lateral link.
    106 Nm (78.2 lbs-ft)
  49. Remove support stand from underneath LH front suspension.
  50. Remove hub jack adapter from LH front hub.
  51. Repeat step #TASK_SPG_2QC_XWB__GUID-8509BFB4-CDFB-423F-8BE5-F3B1C523CB1B through step#TASK_SPG_2QC_XWB__GUID-A6A38C5E-6A3F-4C95-A64C-4091C8808F26 on the RH side of the vehicle.
  52. Lower vehicle partially and set onto locks.
  53. Install the front fascia assembly. See Front Fascia (Remove and Replace).
  54. Connect steering gear motor upper-half connectors.
  55. Connect front drive unit front subframe harness connector.
  56. Connect steering column to steering gear assembly.
  57. Install new bolt securing intermediate shaft assembly to steering gear assembly.
    18 Nm (13.3 lbs-ft)

  58. Perform the cooling system (partial refill and bleed) procedure. See Cooling System (Partial Refill And Bleed) (Modify).
  59. Connect the LV battery. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  60. Unlock the gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  61. Select Stop Thermal Fill/Drain > Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  62. Select Coolant Purge Start > Run, and allow the routine to complete.

    Note
    Make sure vehicle is not in Drive, shifting the vehicle into Drive will stop this routine. The test will last approximately 10 mins. The test will vary speeds from 3500-6500 RPM (idle speed = ~1500 RPM) and actuate the valve between series and parallel. If speed hovers at 7000 RPM, it indicates the pump is air locked, perform the vacuum fill again. Continue to add coolant and purge until the coolant level reaches between the NOM and MAX Lines on the bottle.
  63. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  64. Inspect the coolant level, top off as necessary, and then install the coolant bottle cap.

  65. Install the underhood storage unit to vehicle. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  66. Install the HEPA filter assembly. See Service Kit - Hepa And Carbon Filters (Remove and Replace).
  67. Remove the vehicle from the 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Stands.
