Refill

  1. Place an empty coolant container and a container with at least 15L (RWD) / 18L (AWD) coolant in the front underhood storage area.
  2. Set up the vacuum refill tool.
Informational PurposesAn informational icon, calling your attention
    Note
Verify all valves on the refill tool are in the closed position.
  3. Connect the vacuum refill hose to the coolant reservoir adapter cap.

    Note
Perform push-pull-push test to make sure the hose is fully engaged.
  4. Position the overflow hose into the empty container.
  5. Place the refill hose inside the filled coolant container.
Informational PurposesAn informational icon, calling your attention
    Note
Make sure the hose end is fully submerged into coolant.
  6. Connect shop air supply to the coolant refill tool.
  7. Open the air inlet valve to vacuum the system. Once the gauge stabilizes at 60–70 cmHg, close the valve completely.
  8. Monitor the gauge for 30 seconds to verify a vacuum is maintained in cooling system.
  9. Slowly open the refill valve to allow coolant to be drawn into the system.
Informational PurposesAn informational icon, calling your attention
    Note
Make sure the end of the refill hose is fully submerged during the entire process.
  10. Once the gauge reads zero, close the refill valve.
  11. Disconnect the shop air supply from the coolant refill tool.
  12. Remove the coolant refill hose from the coolant container.
  13. Remove the coolant overflow hose from the coolant container.
  14. Disconnect the vacuum refill hose from the adapter cap on the coolant bottle.

  21. Select Thermal > Coolant System > Coolant Purge Start, click Run, and then allow the routine to complete.
Informational PurposesAn informational icon, calling your attention
    Note
    • The routine will last for a while after the stop message displays. The coolant pumps are audible.
    • The test lasts for approximately 10 mins. Do not start another routine during this time.
    • Make sure that the vehicle is not in Drive. Putting the vehicle into Drive will stop this routine.
    • The speed in the test varies from 3500-6500 RPM (idle speed = ~1500 RPM) and the actuated valve varies between SERIES and PARALLEL.
    • If the speed hovers at 7000 RPM, it indicates the pumps are air locked. Perform the vacuum fill again. Continue to add the coolant and purge until the coolant level reaches between the NOM and MAX Lines on the bottle.
  22. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  23. Inspect the coolant level, top off as necessary, and then install the coolant bottle cap.
