WINDSHIELD - LEFT HAND (Remove and Replace)

Note
Make sure the vehicle is parked on a flat place.

Remove

  1. Open both front doors and lower both front windows.
  2. Place the vehicle in Service Mode by using the touchscreen. See Service Mode.
  3. Remove the cowl screen. See COWL SCREEN (Remove and Replace).
  4. Disconnect LV battery and first responder loop. See .
  5. Disconnect the windshield heater connector, and then use tape to fix the windshield heater harness to the windshield.
  6. Remove the forward facing camera fan. See Fan - Camera - Forward Facing (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the forward facing camera. See ASSY, FORWARD BI-CAM (Remove and Install).
  8. Disconnect the humidity and temperature sensor connector.
  9. Remove the windshield harness from the windshield bracket.
  10. Remove the LH and RH upper A-pillar trims. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  11. Remove the LH and RH sun visors. See SUN VISOR - LEFT HAND (Remove and Replace).
  12. Partially release the front end of the headliner.

    Note
    Take care not to bend the headliner. Replace any damaged clips.
  13. Release the windshield harness from the hooks (x6) at the OHC (Overhead Console) fastener track and move the harness aside.
  14. Remove and discard the OHC fastener track from the windshield.
  15. Use equalizer to separate the datums (x2) from the windshield upper corners.

    Note
    Slide the equalizer up against the datums and carefully separate the adhesive from the windshield. Note you may not be able to see the datum clearly but you can feel it using the blade. Release the datum to aid in the cutting process.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 1080594-00-A - MEH234 Blade handle
  16. Apply tape to the exterior of the A-pillars and the roof to protect paint and the roof glass.
  17. Prepare WRD Spider 3 glass removal kit (1571168-00-A).
  18. Secure the wire to the starter tool and push the tool through the urethane at the RH lower side of the windshield assembly.

    Use the guard to prevent damage to the dash pad while using the starter tool.

    Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface for the entirety of the curing process.
  19. Release the line from the starter tool and wrap the line around the exterior of the windshield.

    Pull the line away from the starter tool. Make sure enough length is pulled through.

    Verify the line sits underneath the glass.
  20. Attach the anchor point to the exterior of the windshield near the starting point of the handle tool, and then secure the line to the anchor.
  21. Secure the interior side of the line to the Spider cutting tool.

    Follow the instructions on the Spider tool. Feed the line through the opening of the cutting tool and tie a knot to secure the line in place. If the spindle is not turned the proper direction, the cutting tool will be damaged.
  22. Secure the Spider cutting tool to the interior side of the windshield.

    Note the orientation of the cutting line. Make sure the line wraps over the large pulley and holds a 90 degree angle.
  23. Secure the angle driver to the electric drill.
  24. Turn the spindle on the cutting tool with the drill to start removing the windshield.

    During the operation, use protective devices to protect the instrument panel.

    When passing the VIN plate, use the guard to guide the line over the plate to prevent damage.

    Take special care in the areas identified that have overlapping panels to prevent damage.

    Note
    Move the cutting tool as needed, keeping the line close to a 90 degree angle.
  25. Remove the glass removal kit from the windshield.
  26. Attach suction cups to the windshield on both sides.
  27. With assistance, lift the windshield up to remove it from the vehicle.

    Note
    Pay attention to the windshield harness. Partially close the hood for clearance.
  28. Remove the suction cups from the windshield.
  29. Remove the old urethane from the body.
  30. Remove the tape from the exterior of both A-pillars and the roof glass.

Install

  1. With assistance, place the new windshield on a support stand with the windshield bracket facing up.
  2. Attach suction cups to the LH and RH sides of the windshield assembly.
  3. Clean the urethane path on the windshield and the vehicle body with an isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipe. Allow the surface to dry before continuing to the next step.
  4. Apply urethane primer to the windshield and vehicle body along the urethane path.

    Allow the primer to dry for at least 2 minute before applying urethane.

    If using Sika 258 sealant, please use Sika special activator Pro as the orange item shown in the picture.
  5. Prepare the caulking gun and urethane.

    The urethane opening must be 8mm wide and 13mm tall.
  6. Apply urethane to the windshield following the original path.
  7. With an assistant, install the new windshield assembly onto the vehicle, but do not set it yet.

    CAUTION
    Be careful not to damage the headliner during installation.
  8. Check the gap and flush of the windshield assembly to the body before fully seating the windshield assembly.

    Note
    Use current CVIS specifications and adjust the glass as needed.
  9. Fully seat the windshield assembly, check the gap and flush, and adjust if necessary.
  10. Apply tape to secure the windshield to body while the urethane cures.
  11. Remove the suction cups from the windshield assembly.
  12. Secure the windshield harness to the hooks (x6) at the OHC fastener track.
  13. Install the front end of the headliner, and pull the seal over the headliner.
  14. Install the LH and RH sun visors. See SUN VISOR - LEFT HAND (Remove and Replace).
  15. Install the LH and RH upper A-pillar trims. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  16. Install the forward facing camera fan. See Fan - Camera - Forward Facing (Remove and Replace).

  17. Install the forward facing camera. See ASSY, FORWARD BI-CAM (Remove and Install).

  18. Connect the humidity and temperature sensor connector.
  19. Secure the windshield harness to the windshield bracket.
  20. Install the quad camera upper cover assembly. See QUAD CAM CVR UPR (Remove and Replace).

    Do not install the rear view mirror at this time.
  21. Connect LV battery and first responder loop. See .
  22. Release the windshield heater harness, and then connect the windshield heater connector.
  23. Install the cowl screen. See COWL SCREEN (Remove and Replace).
  24. Reinstall the vehicle firmware. See Software Reinstall - Touchscreen.
  25. Perform the forward facing camera pitch verification. See Camera - Forward Facing (Pitch Verification) (Test/Adjust).
  26. Remove tape securing windshield to vehicle once urethane has cured

    Note
    Please follow the minimum departure time set by the adhesive manufacturer. Different adhesive takes different time to cure.

    Note
    Park the vehicle indoors, if necessary. Paste tape on the glass of the vehicle, press and fix, and inform the customer to remove the tape after 24 hours. At the same time, customers are advised to avoid driving at high speeds and avoid speed bumps for the next 24 hours.
  27. The vehicle needs to be driven by the customer to complete the calibration procedure. During this time the DAS functions will be completely unavailable.
