A/C Refrigerant Leak Detection

Correction code 00100004 Adjustable FRT (General Diagnosis) NOTE: Track all time and work spent diagnosing the A/C system using correction code 00100004. Do not add "A/C Refrigerant (Recovery & Recharge)" to the activity. NOTE: See Flat Rate Times to learn more about FRTs and how they are created. NOTE: See Personal Protection to make sure wearing proper PPE when performing the below procedure. NOTE: See Ergonomic Precautions for safe and healthy working practices.

  • 2026-08-10: Updated correction code guidance.

Procedure

  1. Set up the A/C machine.
  2. Remove the HEPA filter assembly. See HEPA Filter Assembly (Remove and Replace).
  3. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  4. Place the vehicle in Service Mode by using the touchscreen. See Service Mode.
  5. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  6. On the touchscreen, touch Service Mode > Thermal > Refrigerant System > Start Thermal Fill Drain (Refrigerant only) > Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  7. Recover the A/C refrigerant. See A/C Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge) (Restore).
  8. Perform the vacuum leak test and refill A/C refrigerant. See A/C Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge) (Restore).
  9. Add 5 ml UV dye.
    Note
Add the dye with the refrigerant and oil.
  10. Remove the A/C hoses from the vehicle.
  11. On the touchscreen, touch Service Mode > Thermal > Sensors and Valves > Run Heat Pump Commissioning > Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  12. Touch Thermal > Actions > Test Thermal Performance > Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  13. Touch Thermal > Actions > Test HVAC Performance > Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  14. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  15. Set the temperature to LO on both driver and passenger HVAC controls and set the A/C system to AUTO.
  16. Run the A/C system for 10 minutes to allow the dye to circulate.
  17. Use UV light and the UV inspection kit to check for A/C refrigerant leaks near the HVAC end of the Supermanifold to HVAC A/C line.
    Note
If an A/C refrigerant leak is found, replace the A/C line from supermanifold to HVAC. See AC Line - Supermanifold to HVAC (Remove and Replace).
  18. Use UV light and the UV inspection kit to check for A/C refrigerant leaks at the A/C low and high pressure port.
    Note
If an A/C refrigerant leak is found, replace the A/C line from supermanifold to HVAC. See AC Line - Supermanifold to HVAC (Remove and Replace).
  19. Use UV light and the UV inspection kit to check for A/C refrigerant leaks at the supermanifold area.
    Note
If an A/C refrigerant leak is found, replace the defective component.
  20. Use UV light and the UV inspection kit to check for A/C refrigerant leaks on the A/C compressor discharge and suction lines area.
    Note
If an A/C refrigerant leak is found, replace the supermanifold to compressor A/C line. See AC Line - Supermanifold to Compressor (Remove and Replace).
  21. Use UV light and the UV inspection kit to check for A/C refrigerant leaks on the supermanifold.
    Note
If an A/C refrigerant leak is found, replace the defective component.
  22. Remove the front aero shield panel. See Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
  23. Use UV light and the UV inspection kit to check for A/C refrigerant leaks near the Supermanifold end of the Supermanifold to HVAC A/C line.
    Note
If an A/C refrigerant leak is found, replace the A/C line from supermanifold to HVAC. See AC Line - Supermanifold to HVAC (Remove and Replace).
  24. Install the front aero shield panel. See Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
  25. Install the caps (x2) back onto the A/C ports.
  26. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  27. Install the HEPA filter assembly. See HEPA Filter Assembly (Remove and Replace).
