Adjust Headlights using a Headlight Tester

  1. Open the hood.
  2. Enable Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  3. Enter the headlight aiming mode through the touchscreen.

  4. Enable testdrive override through the touchscreen.
  5. Position the headlight aimer in front of the LH headlight.

    Position the aimer at approx. 30 cm distance from the surface of the headlamp lens, Adjust the height as necessary to match the center point of the headlamp (~78cm). Operating range for tester is 20-50 cm. Make sure that the headlight aimer is on a surface level with the vehicle.
  6. Power on the headlight aimer.
  7. Use the knobs on the base to adjust headlight aimer level.
  8. Align the headlight aimer perpendicular to vehicle.

    Use visor/laser to line up the tester perpendicular to the axis between furthest fender bolts. If the headlight aimer can move between the RH and LH headlights while maintaining the same laser angle projected onto the fender bolts, it is set correctly (perpendicular) to the vehicle.
  9. Initiate the test on the headlight aimer.

    Select Test EC > Free Test.
  10. Set up the headlight aimer.
    • Vehicle: Tesla Y
    • Headlight: LHD - EU Asym, RHD - UK
    • Light: Bi-LED
    • Inclinat.: -1.0 %
    • Height: 78 cm

    Press OK to proceed.
  11. Select OK again to pass fog light settings.
  12. Adjust the headlight aimer to the LH headlight marking.

    Turn on the laser aimer to adjust the tester's horizontal and vertical position to the LH headlamp marking. Markings can be difficult to spot. Use of a piece of paper can aid in finding the center. Turn off the laser aimer before proceeding to the next step.
  13. Start LH headlight aiming.

    Select the LH low beam icon and select the low beam button at the bottom of the screen.
  14. Adjust the LH headlight

    Note
    Select Left on the touchscreen, then use the left scroll wheel on the steering wheel to adjust the beam. Target V = -1.0% and H = 0 %. There may be a delay between scroll wheel input and actual light adjustment output. Do not sit in the vehicle as this will affect the headlight height.
  15. Record the results of the headlight aiming.

    Press the "save" icon.
  16. Position the headlight aimer in front of the RH headlight, and then repeat steps 12 to 15 for the RH headlight.
  17. Review the test results of the headlight aiming.

  18. Move the headlight aimer away from the vehicle.
  19. Exit headlight adjustment mode from the touchscreen.
  20. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
