Remove
- Inspect the vehicle for abnormal tire wear that might indicate the need for a wheel alignment, and note any findings.
- Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Stands.
- Open all doors and lower all windows.

Move the front seats forward.
NoteAdjust the seat backs to avoid contacting the headliner.
- Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
- On the touchscreen, touch Run to start the "Start Thermal Fluid Fill/Drain" routine. and select
- Remove the HEPA filter assembly. See SERVICE KIT - HEPA AND CARBON FILTERS (Remove and Replace).
- Disconnect the LV battery. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
- Using the steering wheel holder, lock the steering wheel into position.
- Perform vehicle HV disablement procedure. See Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure.
- Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the cabin intake duct. See Duct - Air Intake (Remove and Replace).

Remove and discard the bolt that
attaches the steering column to the steering gear assembly.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Ratchet 1/4in Dr Std
- Socket 1/4in Dr. 6pt. Std. x 13mm
- Slide the electric steering column upward to remove it from the steering gear assembly.
- Disconnect the front subframe harness connector.
- Disconnect the steering gear motor connectors (x2).
- Remove the front fascia assembly. See FRONT FASCIA (Remove and Install).

Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the
front end carrier to the LH and RH subframe crash cans.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 13 mm socket
- Lower the vehicle to a comfortable working height and set the lift onto locks.

Remove the bolt that attaches the LH
front brake hose bracket to the LH front knuckle.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
- 4 in extension
- 10 mm socket
- Ratchet/torque wrench

Remove and discard the bolts (x2) that
attach the LH front brake caliper to the LH front knuckle, remove the caliper from the
knuckle, and allow the caliper to hang from an S-hook.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
- External Torx E18
- Ratchet/torque wrench
- Release the clips (x2) that attach the LH front ABS wheel speed sensor harness to the knuckle.

Remove the bolt that attaches the LH
front ABS wheel speed sensor to the knuckle, and then set the sensor aside.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Torx T30 socket
- Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- 4 in extension

Remove and discard the nut that attaches
the LH front tie rod end to the LH front suspension knuckle.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 22 mm deep socket

Remove the bolt and nut that attach the
LH front upper control arm to the knuckle, and then discard the nut.
NoteCompress the upper control arm ball joint downwards to help release the bolt.NoteHold the knuckle to avoid failing.TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 15 mm socket
- Torx T50 socket
- Repeat the step 20 through step 25 for the RH side of the vehicle.
- Remove the front stabilizer bar. See Front Stabilizer Bar and Links - Front Stabilizer bar (Remove and Replace).

Remove the bolts and nuts that attach
the LH and RH front lower lateral links to the struts.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 21 mm socket
- Remove the clip that attaches the steering gear harness to the harness bracket.
- Release the connector locks, and then disconnect the logic connectors (x2) below the steering gear.
- Remove the front skid plate. See FRONT SKID PLATE (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the clip that attaches the RH wheel liner to the body.
- Use a bungee strap attached to the front subframe to pull back the RH front wheel liner.
- Position a coolant drain container underneath the RH front corner of HV battery.
- Release the spring clip, and then disconnect the powertrain return tube from the front drive unit inverter inlet hose. Plug both hose ends with plugs (x2).
- Position the coolant drain container underneath the front of the drive unit.
- Release the clip, and then disconnect the powertrain return tube from the front drive unit heat exchanger. Plug both hose ends with plugs (x2).
- Remove the coolant drain container from underneath the vehicle.

Remove the bolt that attaches the
front drive unit ground strap to the front drive unit.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm socket
- Release the clip that attaches the front drive unit ground strap to the front drive unit.
- Put on HV insulating gloves, leather outer gloves, and safety glasses before continuing this procedure.

Remove the bolt that attaches the
front drive unit HV harness to the front drive unit.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm socket
-
Slide the red release tab to unlock
the front drive unit HV harness connector, and then slowly unlatch the release handle on
the front drive unit HV harness connector, and then disconnect the connector from the
front drive unit.
CAUTIONDo not apply excessive force to the handle; doing so could damage the connector alignment tabs.NoteMake sure that the alignment tabs on the front drive unit header are not damaged.
- Remove the front drive unit harness from the casting, and then move the harness aside.
- Remove the HV insulating gloves.

Remove and discard the larger bolts
(x2) that attach the rear portion of the front subframe to the body.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- SKT, 1/2" DR, SHALLOW, 21MM - 1115108-00-B
- Breaker bar
- Torque wrench with angle measurement
- Position the front subframe lifting tool beneath the front subframe.
- Attach an air hose to the front subframe lifting tool.
- With an assistant, raise the front subframe lifting tool to support the front subframe.
- Loop the straps over the front subframe, hook the ends of the straps to the metal rings, and then pull the straps tight to restrain the subframe to the front subframe lifting tool.

Remove the bolts that attaches the LH
and RH motor mounts to the body.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- External Torx E18
- Torque wrench with angle measurement

Remove and discard the smaller bolts
(x2) that attach the rear portion of the front subframe to the body.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 15 mm socket
- Torque wrench with angle measurement

Remove and discard the bolts (x2) that
attach the front portion of the front subframe to the body.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 18 mm socket

Remove and discard the bolts (x2) that
attach the middle portion of the front subframe to the body.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 15 mm socket
-
With assistance, carefully lower the
subframe and front drive unit assembly from the vehicle.
NoteTaking caution to avoid damaging other parts.
- Move a coolant catcher under the front subframe and fixture assembly.
-
Release the clips, disconnect the
front drive unit inverter to oil cooler hose from the front drive unit inverter and the
oil cooler, plug the inverter fittings, and then allow the hose to drain.
NoteUse a foldable funnel as required.
- Release the clip that attaches the front drive unit inverter to oil cooler hose to the front drive unit, and then remove the hose from the front drive unit.
- Release the clip that attaches the front drive unit inverter inlet hose to the front subframe.
- Remove the coolant catcher from under the front subframe and fixture assembly.
- Disconnect the front drive unit inverter logic connector and remove the harness clips (x2).
- Release the red locking tab to disconnect the front drive unit resolver connector and release the harness clip.
- Disconnect the front drive unit oil pump connector.
- Move the subframe lifting tool to under the gantry.
- Use the shackles (x3) to attach the drive unit sling tool to the front drive unit.
- Attach the drive unit sling tool to the gantry.
- Use the gantry to raise the drive unit sling tool so that there is slight tension in the cables.

Remove the bolt that attaches the
front motor mount to the front subframe.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 18 mm socket
- Torque wrench with angle measurement

Remove the bolts that attaches the LH
and RH front brake rotors to the knuckles.
NoteRemoval of the brake rotor can reduce the weight on the knuckle and ease the removal of the halfshaft.TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
- 2 in extension
- 10 mm deep socket
- Ratchet/torque wrench

Install the axle removal tool between
the front drive unit and the inner joint of the LH front halfshaft. And with assistance,
use a dead blow hammer to release the clip ring that attaches the LH front halfshaft to
the front drive unit.
NoteDo not remove shaft from front drive unit; doing so could damage the seal.

Install the axle removal tool between
the front drive unit and the inner joint of the RH front halfshaft. And with assistance,
use a dead blow hammer to release the clip ring that attaches the RH front halfshaft to
the front drive unit.
NoteDo not remove shaft from front drive unit; doing so could damage the seal.
- With the help of an assistant, use the gantry to raise the drive unit sling tool, guide halfshafts away from the front drive unit, and separate the front drive unit up from the front subframe.
- Set the front drive unit down onto an appropriate surface, continue lowering to put slack into the drive sling tool cables, and then remove the shackles (x3) from the drive unit.

LH front subframe crash can to the front subframe.

- Remove the steering gear assembly from the front subframe.
- Place a transmission jack to under the LH suspension assembly to avoid the suspension assembly falling.

Remove the bolt and nut that attach
the LH front lower compliance link to the front subframe.

Remove and discard the bolts (x2) that
attach the LH front lower lateral link to the front subframe.

Remove the LH suspension
assembly.
NoteProtect the inner shaft of the halfshaft from dirt and stains.
- Repeat step 79 through step 82 on the RH side of the vehicle.
- Release the clips (x9) that attach the front subframe harness to the subframe.
- With assistance, release the straps (x3) and then remove the front subframe from subframe lifting tool.
Install

With assistance, position the front
subframe to the subframe lifting tool.
NoteMake sure the guides align.
- Loop the straps over the front subframe, hook the ends of the straps to the metal rings, and then pull the straps tight to restrain the subframe to the front subframe lifting tool.
- Install the clips (x9) that attach the front subframe harness to the subframe.

Install the LH suspension assembly to
the front subframe.
NoteAlign the compliance link to its installation position.

Install the bolt and nut that attach
the LH front lower compliance link to the front subframe.115 Nm (84.8 lbs-ft)NoteUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:

- Loosely install new bolts (x2) that attach the LH front lower lateral link to the front subframe.
- Remove the jack from under LH suspension assembly.
- Repeat step 4 through step 7 on the RH side of the vehicle.
- Position the steering gear assembly to the front subframe.

Torque the outer bolts (x2) that

- Loosely install the bolts (x2) that attach the LH front subframe crash can assembly to the front subframe.
- Loosely install bolts (x2) that attach the RH front subframe crash can assembly to the front subframe.
- Use the shackles (x3) to attach the drive unit sling tool to the front drive unit.
- Use the gantry to raise the drive unit sling tool so that there is slight tension in the cables.
- Carefully lower the front drive unit into the front subframe. As the front drive unit is lowered, maneuver the axles into the front drive unit for later installation. Line up the front drive unit with the support stands.
- Loosely install the bolt that attaches the front motor mount to the front subframe.

Install the LH front drive unit

- Lower the drive unit sling tool to release tension in the cables.
- Remove the drive unit sling from the front drive unit.
- Connect the front drive unit oil pump connector.
- Connect the resolver logic connector and secure the harness clip.
- Connect the front drive unit inverter logic connector and secure the front drive unit harness clips.
- Install the clip that attaches the front drive unit inverter inlet hose to the front subframe.
- Install the front drive unit inverter to oil cooler hose to the front drive unit, and then fasten the clip that attaches the hose to the drive unit.
- With the help of an assistant, move the subframe lifting tool and the front drive unit assembly under the vehicle.
- Loosely install new bolts (x2) that attach the middle portion of the front subframe to the body.
- Loosely install new bolts (x2) that attach the front portion of the front subframe to the body.
- Loosely install smaller bolts (x2) that attach the rear portion of the front subframe to the body.
- Loosely install new the larger bolts (x2) that attach the rear portion of the front subframe to the body.
- Loosely install the bolts that attaches the LH and RH motor mounts to the body.

- Install the HV connector lever lock to the front drive unit HV cable connector.
- Install the front drive unit harness to the casting.
- Align the connector to the front drive unit, and then remove the HV connector lever lock before fully latching the connector.

Slowly latch the release handle while
pressing the front drive unit HV harness connector into the front drive unit.
NoteOnce connected, verify that the locking tab is not damaged and the front drive unit HV connector is fully secured in the latched position.

Install the bolt that attaches the

- Position the coolant drain container underneath the RH side of front of the drive unit.

Remove the plugs on the ends of
fittings, and then install the spring clip to connect the front drive unit inverter
inlet hose to the powetrain return hose.
NotePerform a push-pull-push test to make sure that the hose is fully secured.
- Position the coolant drain container underneath the front of the drive unit.

Remove the plugs on the ends of
fittings, and then install the spring clip and the plug to connect the front drive unit
powertrain return hose to the front drive unit heat exchanger.
NotePerform a push-pull-push test to make sure that the hose is fully secured.NoteInstalling the side of hose first will eliminate the coolant loss when connecting to the supermanifold.
- Remove the coolant drain container from underneath the vehicle.
- Remove the bungee strap from the RH front wheel arch liner.
- Install the clip that attaches the RH wheel liner to the body.
- Install the clip that attaches the steering gear harness to the harness bracket.
- Connect the logic connectors (x2) below the steering gear.
- Install the front stabilizer bar. See Front Stabilizer Bar and Links - Front Stabilizer bar (Remove and Replace).
- Hand-tighten and nuts that attach the LH and RH front lower lateral links to the struts.
- Lower the vehicle to a comfortable working height and set the lift onto locks.

Position the LH upper control arm to the
knuckle, and then install the bolt and a new nut that attach the LH front upper control

Remove the bolt that attaches the LH

- Install the hub jack adapter onto the LH front hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts (x5).
- Position and raise the underhoist stand to simulate the suspension at ride height.
- Measure the distance between the bottom of the fender and the center of the front axle to make sure that the front suspension is set to ride height. The distance should measure 420mm.

- 10 mm socket
- Repeat step 77 through step 85 on the right of the vehicle.
- Lower the vehicle to a comfortable working height and set the lift onto locks.
- Install the front fascia assembly. See FRONT FASCIA (Remove and Install).
- Connect the steering gear motor connectors (x2).
- Connect the front subframe harness connector.
- Slide the electric steering column downward to install it to the steering gear assembly.

Install a new bolt that attaches the
steering column to the steering gear assembly.18 Nm (13.3 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 13 mm deep socket
- Perform a cooling system vacuum refill. See Cooling System - Vacuum Refill.
- Connect the LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
- Remove the steering wheel holder.
- Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).

On the touchscreen, perform the
following steps.
- Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.

Inspect the coolant level and top off
as necessary, and then install the coolant bottle cap.
NoteEnsure that the coolant level is at the "Max" line.
- Install the HEPA filter assembly. See SERVICE KIT - HEPA AND CARBON FILTERS (Remove and Replace).
- Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
- Install the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See 2ND ROW SEAT CUSHION (Remove and Replace).
- Refer to the Alignment Requirement tables to determine whether an EPAS alignment check (EC) or four wheel alignment check (AC) is necessary. If performed, add the alignment check/adjust as a separate activity. See Alignment Requirement - Suspension.
