Remove

  1. Connect the A/C machine to power, turn the power switch on, and select gas type.
  2. Place the vehicle on the 2-post lift.

    TIp
Ensure the vehicle is not charging.
  3. Open all doors and lower all windows.
  4. Recover the A/C refrigerant. See A/C Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge) (Maintenance).
  5. While recovering, perform the vehicle HV disablement procedure. See Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure.
  6. While recovering, remove the fresh intake duct. See Duct - Air Intake (Remove and Replace).
  7. While recovering, remove the LV battery. See 16V LI - ION BATTERY (Remove and Install).
  8. Remove the A/C hoses from vehicle.
  9. Remove the desiccant. See Desiccant (Remove and Replace).
  10. Weigh the desiccant bag. This is considered the "wet weight."
  11. Determine the "dry weight" of the desiccant bag: Inspect the bag for a label that contains the Part Number (P), Serial Number (S), and Dry Weight (W). If the label is missing, or if the dry weight is not visible, assume the dry weight is 90.4 grams.
  12. Subtract the dry weight from the wet weight. This is the amount of oil that must be added to the system in addition to the oil that was removed during refrigerant recovery. Note this amount for later.
  13. Stick a steel ruler into the accumulator to measure the refrigerant oil level inside the accumulator.
Informational PurposesAn informational icon, calling your attention
    Note
Level will vary per vehicle. Keep the steel ruler vertical during measurement, and record the measurement in millimeters.
  14. Multiply the measurement by 5.6 and add 15 to convert it to grams. Record the measurement in grams.
  15. Calculate the total oil loss from AC recovery, desiccant bag, and accumulator. Record the total oil amount. This amount will be used for oil injection at later step.
  16. Remove the supermanifold to compressor A/C line. See AC LINE - SUPERMANIFOLD TO COMPRESSOR (Remove and Replace).
  17. Remove supermanifold assembly from shock tower beam.

Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • 6 in extension
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
  18. Take note of the old and new part numbers and serial numbers for the supermanifold.

    Note
The label is located in front of the accumulator, document part numbers and serial numbers into the repair order.

Install

  1. Position the supermanifold to compressor A/C line onto the supermanifold, and then hand tighten the bolt that attaches the A/C line to the supermanifold.

    • 15 mm socket
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
  2. Install AC line to supermanifold. See AC LINE - SUPERMANIFOLD TO COMPRESSOR (Remove and Replace).
  3. Install shock tower brace with supermanifold and compressor to vehicle.
Informational PurposesAn informational icon, calling your attention
    Note
2 technicians are required for this step, mind the connectors and AC lines, slowly lift the brace, put it on a cardboard pad, if desiccant exposed to air for more than 20 minutes, it need to be replace.
  4. Loosely Install bolts securing shock tower brace to shock tower.
  5. Torque bolts securing shock tower brace to shock tower.

    Note
Make sure vehicle is not in Drive, shifting the vehicle into Drive will stop this routine. The test will last approximately 10 mins. The test will vary speeds from 3500-6500 RPM (idle speed = ~1500 RPM) and actuate the valve between series and parallel. If speed hovers at 7000 RPM, it indicates the pump is air locked, perform the vacuum fill again. Continue to add coolant and purge until the coolant level reaches between the NOM and MAX Lines on the bottle.
  18. Select Sensors and Valves > Run Heat Pump Commissioning > Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  19. Raise vehicle fully and lower lift onto locks.
  20. Install the front aero shield. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
  21. Lower vehicle fully.
  22. Position the underhood storage unit reinforcement bracket to the cooling fan, and then install the bolts (x2) that attach the underhood storage unit reinforcement bracket to the cooling fan.
