Remove

  1. Inspect the vehicle for abnormal tire wear that might indicate the need for a wheel alignment. Note any findings.
  2. Place the vehicle on the 2-post lift.

    Ensure the vehicle is not charging.
  3. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  4. Enable the EPB Service Mode.
    1. Place the vehicle in Service Mode by using the touchscreen. See Service Mode.
    2. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
    3. While holding the brake pedal, tap the Service Mode "wrench" at the bottom of the touchscreen UI, and then tap Chassis > Brakes > EPB Service Mode, select Both in the EPB Selection dropping list, and select Start in the Action Selection dropping list. Click Run, and allow the routine to complete.

    The EPB Selection field can also be selected as Left/Right as needed.
  5. Loosen the LH rear wheel lug nuts, but do not remove the wheel at this time. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  6. Loosen the LH rear halfshaft nut.
  7. Remove the LH rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  8. Remove the LH rear suspension cover. See Rear Suspension Cover - LH (Remove and Replace).
  9. Install a spring compressor onto the LH rear suspension spring:

    Springs in a compressed state are under large amounts of energy. Refer to the Tool Profile for the spring compressor kit prior to performing this step for additional warnings and cautions.
  10. Lower the vehicle to a comfortable working height and set the lift onto locks.
  11. Remove the LH rear brake dust shield. See BRAKE SHIELD - REAR- LEFT HAND - BASE (Remove and Replace).
  12. Remove the grommet that attaches the LH rear ABS wheel speed sensor cable to the knuckle.
  13. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH rear ABS wheel speed sensor to the knuckle.

    • 4 in extension
  14. Remove and discard the nut that attaches the LH rear stabilizer bar link to the LH rear knuckle.

    Note
    Loosen the nut first, and then continue to remove the nut by counter-holding the ball joint with a hex wrench.

  15. Remove the bolt and nut that attach the LH rear upper aft link to the LH rear knuckle.

  16. Remove the bolt and nut that attach the LH rear upper fore link to the knuckle.

  17. Remove the bolt and nut that attach the LH rear toe link to knuckle.

  18. Remove the bolt and nut that attach the LH rear lower fore link to knuckle.

  19. Position a support stand underneath the LH rear lower aft link.
  20. Remove the bolt and nut that attach the LH rear lower aft link to the knuckle.

  21. Remove the LH rear knuckle from the vehicle.

Install

  1. Position the LH rear knuckle on the rear suspension.
  2. Hand-tighten the bolt and nut that attach the LH rear lower aft link to the LH rear knuckle.

    Note
    Compress the spring as required until the lower aft link and knuckle holes align. Recommend assistance when performing this step.
  3. Position the LH rear lower fore link onto the knuckle, and then install and hand-tighten the bolt and nut.
  4. Position the LH rear toe link onto the knuckle, and then install and hand-tighten the bolt and nut.

  5. Install the LH rear upper fore link to the knuckle and hand-tighten the nut and bolt.
  6. Position the LH rear upper aft link onto the knuckle, and then install and hand-tighten the bolt and nut.
  7. Install and tighten a new nut that attaches the LH stabilizer bar link to the LH rear knuckle.
    55 Nm (40.6 lbs-ft)

  8. Install the grommet that attaches the LH rear ABS wheel speed sensor cable to the knuckle.
  9. Install the bolt that attaches the LH rear ABS wheel speed sensor to the knuckle.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)

  10. Install the LH rear brake dust shield. See BRAKE SHIELD - REAR- LEFT HAND - BASE (Remove and Replace).
  11. Tighten the bolt and nut that attach the LH rear upper aft link to the knuckle, and then mark the bolt and nut with a paint pen.
    134 Nm (98.8 lbs-ft)

  12. Tighten the bolt and nut that attach the LH rear upper fore link to the knuckle, and then mark the bolt and nut with a paint pen.
    84 Nm (61.9 lbs-ft)

  13. Tighten the bolt and nut that attach the LH rear toe link to the LH rear suspension knuckle. Mark the bolt with a paint pen.
    76 Nm (56.0 lbs-ft)

  14. Tighten the bolt and nut that attach the LH rear lower fore link to the LH rear knuckle. Mark the bolt with a paint pen.

  15. Tighten the bolt and nut that attach the LH rear lower aft link to the knuckle, and then mark the bolt and nut with a paint pen.
    115 Nm (84.8 lbs-ft)

  16. Remove the support stand from under the LH rear suspension.
  17. Remove the spring compressor from the LH rear suspension spring:

    Be careful while unloading the spring. Hold the spring horizontally and facing away from you.

  18. Install the LH rear suspension cover. See Rear Suspension Cover - LH (Remove and Replace).
  19. Install the LH rear wheel, but do not torque the halfshaft nut. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  20. On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap Chassis > Brakes > EPB Service Mode, select Both in the EPB Selection dropping list, and select Stop in the Action Selection dropping list. Click Run, and allow the routine to complete.

  21. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  22. Tighten the LH rear halfshaft nut.
    300 Nm (221.2 lbs-ft)

  23. Install the LH rear wheel cap.
  24. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
  25. Remove the vehicle from the lift.
