Reuse

Remove

  1. Place the vehicle on the 2-post lift.

    Ensure the vehicle is not charging.
  2. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  3. Enable the EPB Service Mode.
    1. Place the vehicle in Service Mode by using the touchscreen. See Service Mode.
    2. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
    3. While holding the brake pedal, tap the Service Mode "wrench" at the bottom of the touchscreen UI, and then tap Chassis > Brakes > EPB Service Mode, select Both in the EPB Selection dropping list, and select Start in the Action Selection dropping list. Click Run, and allow the routine to complete.

    Note
    The EPB Selection field can also be selected as Left/Right as needed.
  4. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  5. Place absorbent material underneath the brake fluid reservoir area.
  6. Clean the area around the brake fluid reservoir and remove the brake reservoir cap.
  7. Remove the LH and RH rear wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  8. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the LH rear brake caliper to the LH rear brake caliper bracket.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 14 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • Combination Wrench 12pt 17mm
  9. Use the Brake Caliper Spreader to push the piston into the caliper.

    Make sure the up cut of the piston is placed in the middle of the two tabs.

  10. Remove the LH rear brake caliper and hang it off to a firm part beside with an S-hook.

    Preferentially use S-hook 1082171-10-A. If 1082171-10-A is not available, use 1082171-00-A instead.

    S-hook 1082171-10-A can only be hung on metal parts.
  11. Remove the LH rear brake pads from the LH rear brake caliper bracket.
  12. Remove the LH rear brake caliper bracket abutment clips (x4).
  13. Clean the LH rear brake caliper bracket abutment clips with soapy water or brake cleaner.
  14. Repeat step 8 through step 13 to remove the RH rear brake pads.

Install

  1. Install the LH rear brake caliper bracket abutment clips (x4).
  2. Apply an even layer of Silaramic lubricant onto the LH brake pad guide contact points.
  3. Install the LH rear brake pads onto the LH rear brake caliper bracket.
  4. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the LH rear brake caliper to the LH rear brake caliper bracket.
    26.5 Nm (19.5 lbs-ft)

    • 14 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • Combination Wrench 12pt 17mm
  5. Repeat step 1 to step 4 for the RH side.
  6. Lower the vehicle to a comfortable working height and set the lift onto locks.
  7. Check the brake fluid reservoir and top off as necessary.
  8. Remove the absorbent material from underneath the brake fluid reservoir area.
  9. Pump the brake pedal 3-5 times to seat the pads against the brake rotor until the brake pedal feels firm.
  10. On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap Chassis > Brakes > EPB Service Mode, select Both in the EPB Selection dropping list, and select Stop in the Action Selection dropping list. Click Run, and allow the routine to complete.

  11. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  12. Install the LH and RH rear wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  13. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  14. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
  15. Remove the lift arms from below the vehicle.
  16. Perform one of the following:
    • If the brake pads were not replaced in this procedure, perform a road test using a series of aggressive stops and make sure that there is proper brake pedal feel and brake performance.
