PIPE FRONT - BRAKE (Remove and Replace)

Reuse

Remove

  1. Set up the A/C machine.
  2. Remove all the four wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  3. Remove the LH and RH front fender garnishes. See Fender Garnish - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the LH and RH front wheel liners. See WHEEL LINER - FRONT - LEFT HAND (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
  6. Open all doors and lower all windows.
  7. Place the vehicle in Service Mode by using the touchscreen. See Service Mode.
  8. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  9. On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap Thermal > Coolant System > Start Thermal Fill/Drain > Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  10. Move both front seats forward.
  11. Lock the steering wheel into position.
  12. Remove the shock tower brace together with supermanifold and compressor. See SUPERMANIFOLD (Remove and Install).
  13. Disconnect the HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit) connector.

    Note
    Release the red locking tab, press the black release tab and rotate the lever upward to disconnect the connector.
  14. Release the HCU connector harness clip.
  15. Remove and discard the bolt that attaches the steering column to the steering gear assembly.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm deep socket
  16. Slide the steering column upward from the steering gear assembly.
  17. Place absorbent material below the car computer coolant hose connection points to collect any spilled coolant.
  18. Release the coolant hoses from the car computer, and plug the ends of fittings as soon as possible to avoid coolant loss.

  19. Install the car computer coolant plug.
  20. Remove the nuts (x4) that attach the 4-tube brake pipe bundle to the HCU.

    TIp
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 12 mm socket
  21. Release the 4-tube brake pipe bundle from the spacer.

    Note
    Do not bend the pipes.
  22. Remove the clips (x6) that attach the front brake pipe to the front body area.
  23. Raise the vehicle to a comfortable working height, and lower the lift onto locks.

    CAUTION

    Make sure there is an audible click of the locks on both sides before lowering, otherwise the vehicle may tilt to one side.

    Make sure that the doors are clear of surrounding objects.

  24. Position an oil drain under the LH front brake caliper area.
  25. Remove the nut that attaches the LH front brake line to the LH front brake hose.

    Catch any fluid lost in the waste container.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 12 mm socket
  26. Remove the nut that attaches the LH front brake hose to the vehicle, and then move the LH front brake hose aside.

    • 10 mm 12-point deep socket
  27. Release the nuts (x2) that attach the brake pipes to the coupling.

    • 12 mm socket
    • 13 mm socket
  28. Remove the clips (x4) that attach the front brake pipe to the LH body area.
  29. Remove the oil drain from underneath the LH front brake caliper.
  30. Repeat step 24 to step 26 for the RH side.
  31. Remove the clips (x2) that attach the front brake pipe to the RH body area.
  32. Remove the oil drain from underneath the RH front brake caliper.
  33. Lower the vehicle to a comfortable working height and set the lift onto locks.
  34. With assistance, remove the front brake pipe from the vehicle.

    Note
    Remove the right side brake pipe first, then turn the brake line to remove the left side brake pipe. Move part of the harness and coolant hose to obtain enough space. Do not bend the pipes.

Install

  1. With assistance, position the front brake pipe to the vehicle.

    Install the left side brake pipe first, then turn the brake line to install the right side brake pipe. Move part of the harness and coolant hose to obtain enough space. Do not bend the pipes.
  2. Raise the vehicle to a comfortable working height, and lower the lift onto locks.

  3. Install the clips (x2) that attach the front brake pipe to the RH body area.
  4. Install the nut that attaches the RH front brake hose to the vehicle.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)

    • 10 mm 12-point deep socket
  5. Hand-tighten and then torque the nut that attaches the RH front brake line to the RH front brake hose.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)

    Start the nut by hand to avoid cross threading.

    • 12 mm socket
  6. Install the clips (x4) that attach the front brake pipe to the LH body area.
  7. Install the nuts (x2) that attach the brake pipes to the coupling.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)

    Start the nuts by hand to avoid cross threading.

  8. Repeat step 4 and step 5 for the LH side.
  9. Lower the vehicle to a comfortable working height and set the lift onto locks.
  10. Install the clips (x6) that attach the front brake pipe to the front body area.
  11. Install the 4-tube brake pipe bundle to the spacer.
  12. Install the nuts (x4) that attach the 4-tube brake pipe bundle to the HCU.
    18 Nm (13.3 lbs-ft)

    Clean the lines with brake cleaner before mating as needed.

    • 12 mm socket
  13. Secure the HCU harness clip to the HCU bracket.
  14. Connect the HCU connector.

    Note
    Rotate the lever downward and secure the red locking tab.
  15. Slide the steering column downward to connect to the steering gear assembly.

    Ensure the intermediate shaft is aligned and fully seated.
  16. Install a new bolt that attaches the steering column to the steering gear assembly.
    18 Nm (13.3 lbs-ft)

    • 13 mm deep socket
  17. Remove the plugs (x2) from the car computer coolant hoses, and engage the spring clips.
  18. Remove the coolant plug from the car computer.
  19. Install the hoses to the car computer coolant inlet and outlet.

    Perform a push-pull-push test to make sure that the hose is fully secured.

    Coolant loss greater than 1L requires vacuum fill.
  20. Remove the absorbent material from below the car computer coolant hose connection points.
  21. Install the shock tower brace together with supermanifold and compressor. See SUPERMANIFOLD (Remove and Install).
  22. Bleed all 4 calipers. See Brake Fluid Bleed/Flush (Maintenance).
  23. Install the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
  24. Install the LH and RH front wheel liners. See WHEEL LINER - FRONT - LEFT HAND (Remove and Replace).
  25. Install the LH and RH front fender garnishes. See Fender Garnish - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  26. Install all the four wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  27. Install the 2nd row seat cushion. See 2ND ROW SEAT CUSHION (Remove and Replace).
  28. Inspect the coolant level and top off as necessary.

    Ensure that fluid level is at Max line.
  29. Install the coolant bottle cap.
  30. On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap Thermal > Sensors and Valves > Run Heat Pump Commissioning > Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  31. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  32. Install air intake duct. See Duct - Air Intake (Remove and Replace).
  33. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  34. Install the HEPA filter assembly. See HEPA FILTER (Remove and Replace).
  35. Remove the locking steering wheel tool.
  36. Move both front seats to original position.
  37. Raise all windows and close all doors.
  38. Remove the vehicle from the lift.
