Cybertruck electronics are powered by a 48V "mid voltage" or "MV" architecture that is designed to improve efficiency. Servicing MV components requires extra knowledge and care in order to avoid personal and/or vehicular harm. Read and understand MV precautions in Electrical Precautions and make sure any required MV-related training courses have been completed, as applicable.

Only technicians who have been trained in High Voltage Awareness and have completed all required certification courses (if applicable) are permitted to perform this procedure. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and insulating HV gloves with a minimum rating of class 0 (1000V) must be worn at all times a high voltage cable, busbar, or fitting is handled. Refer to Tech Note TN-15-92-003, High Voltage Awareness Care Points for additional glove and safety information.

Procedure

  1. Open the powered frunk.
  2. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  4. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Install).
  5. Disconnect MV power. See Mid-Voltage Power (Disconnect and Connect) (Modify).
  6. Remove the LH and RH rear wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  7. Remove the mid aeroshield. See Skid Plate - Rear (Remove and Install).
  8. Remove the rear aeroshield. See Aeroshield - Rear (Remove and Install).
  9. Perform Vehicle HV Disablement procedure. See Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure (Test/Adjust).
  10. Remove the rear diffuser. See Diffuser - Rear (Remove and Install).
  11. Disconnect the RDU breather tube.

    Press the tabs (x2) inward and pull the breather upwards.

    Release the clip from the RDU casing.

    The breather tube can be accessed from the LH rear wheel well.
  12. Cut and remove inverter and motor side NVH cover assemblies from the vehicle.

    Make sure to wear cut resistant gloves and eye protection during removal.

    CAUTION
    DO NOT cut the hoses, electrical connectors and harnesses during this process.

    Note
    Cut the material around the openings for connectors, coolant hoses, and breather hoses to give you leverage to clear the drive unit assembly.

    Use the wheel well openings on both LH and RH side to pull the NVH cover assembly from the vehicle.

    The NVH cover will be scrapped after removal.

    • Retractable blade

  13. Connect the RDU breather tube and install the clip onto the RDU casing.

    Note
    Make sure the tabs (x2) are fully engaged.
  14. Install the rear diffuser. See Diffuser - Rear (Remove and Install).
  15. Install the rear aeroshield. See Aeroshield - Rear (Remove and Install).
  16. Install the mid aeroshield. See Skid Plate - Rear (Remove and Install).
  17. Install the LH and RH rear wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  18. Reconnect MV power. See Mid-Voltage Power (Disconnect and Connect) (Modify).
  19. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Install).
  20. Remove the vehicle from the lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  21. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
