Spare Tire and Tool Kit (Retrofit)

  1. Position the wheel on a tire machine with the outboard side of the wheel facing upwards, and then install the wheel clamp that secures the wheel to the tire machine.

    Make sure to position the Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor (TPMS) slot opposite of the tire machine arm.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Tire machine
    • Wheel clamp
  2. Remove the new TPMS valve nut from the sensor.
  3. Position the TPMS on the wheel, and then install the TPMS valve nut that attaches the sensor to the wheel.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 11 mm deep socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  4. Remove the valve stem cap from the tire valve.
  5. Remove the valve stem core from the tire valve.

    • Valve core removal tool
  6. Thoroughly lubricate the outer and inner tire beads and prepare the tire for installation.

  7. Position the tire on a tire machine with the outboard side of the tire facing upwards.

    Make sure the outboard side of the tire is facing upwards.
  8. Install the tire on the wheel.

    CAUTION
    Use caution to avoid damaging the outer and inner tire beads when installing the tire. Apply additional lubricant as required.
  9. Partially inflate the tire to seat the outer and inner tire beads on the wheel.

    Do not exceed the pressure indicated on the tire sidewall.

  10. Install the valve stem core on the tire valve. Hand-tighten the valve stem core only.

    CAUTION
    Do not overtighten the valve stem core.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

  11. Inflate the tire to specification.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Safety glasses
  12. Remove the wheel clamp that secures the wheel to the tire machine, and then remove the wheel and tire from the tire machine.
  13. Position the wheel and tire on the tire balancer machine spindle shaft, and then install the 6-lug wheel balancer flange that secures the wheel to the tire balancer machine.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 6-Lug wheel balancer flange - 1962607-00-A
    • Tire balancer
  14. Remove the weight(s) from the wheel if present.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Wheel weight removal tool - 1072912-00-A
  15. Verify the tire Pounds per Square Inch (PSI) is set to specification.

    Note
    Refer to the "Tire and Loading Information" label located on the driver side B-Pillar.
    1. If the tire PSI is not set to specification, inflate the tire to the recommended PSI.
  16. Install the valve stem cap on the tire valve.
  17. Input the wheel dimensions into the tire balancer machine if necessary.

    Note
    If the tire balancer machine does not require manual input, skip to the next step.
  18. Perform a road force wheel balance.

    Warning
    The tire balancer machine safety hood must be lowered to perform the wheel balance procedure. Make sure the load roller properly engages the tire.

    Note
    Follow the instructions on the tire balancer machine screen.
  19. Record the road force wheel balance results.
    1. If the road force is within specification, skip to step 36.
    2. If the road force is not within specification, continue to the next step.
  20. Perform a tire and wheel force match procedure.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Tire chalk
    1. Determine the two alignment points on the tire and wheel.
    2. Measure the run-out variation, and then use tire chalk to mark the tire and rim on the indicated points.
  21. Remove the 6-lug wheel balancer flange that secures the wheel and tire to the tire balancer machine, and then remove the wheel and tire from the tire balancer machine spindle shaft.
  22. Position the wheel and tire on a tire machine with the outboard sides of the wheel and tire facing upward, and then install the wheel clamp that secures the wheel to the tire machine.
  23. Remove the valve stem cap from the tire valve.
  24. Remove the valve stem core from the tire valve.

    CAUTION
    Exercise caution as the tire rapidly deflates.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Safety glasses
    • Valve core removal tool
  25. Thoroughly lubricate the outer and inner tire beads, and then use a tire machine to release the outer and inner tire beads from the wheel.
  26. Partially remove the tire from the wheel.

    Make sure the TPMS is positioned ahead of the tire machine arm.
  27. Install the tire on the wheel and align the previously marked points in step 20.b.

  28. Partially inflate the tire to seat the outer and inner tire beads on the wheel.

    Do not exceed the recommended PSI pressure indicated on the tire sidewall.

  29. Install the valve stem core on the tire valve. Hand-tighten the valve stem core only.

    CAUTION
    Do not overtighten the valve stem core.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Valve core removal tool
  30. Remove the wheel clamp that secures the wheel to the tire machine, and then remove the wheel and tire from the tire machine.
  31. Position the wheel and tire on the tire balancer machine spindle shaft, and then install the 6-lug wheel balancer flange that secures the wheel and tire to the tire balancer machine.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 6-Lug wheel balancer flange - 1962607-00-A
    • Tire balancer
  32. Verify the tire PSI is set to specification.

    Note
    Refer to the "Tire and Loading Information" label located on the driver side B-Pillar.
    1. If the tire PSI is not set to specification, inflate the tire to the recommended PSI.
  33. Install the valve stem cap on the tire valve.
  34. Input the wheel dimensions into the tire balancer machine if necessary.

  35. Perform a road force wheel balance.

  36. Install the wheel weight(s) on the position(s) indicated on the tire balancer machine as required.
  37. Perform a check spin.

    The tire balancer machine safety hood must be lowered to perform the check spin procedure. Make sure the load roller properly engages the tire.

  38. Remove the 6-lug wheel balancer flange that secures the wheel and tire to the tire balancer machine, and then remove the wheel and tire from the tire balancer machine spindle shaft.
  39. Open the tailgate.
  40. Open the tonneau cover.
  41. Remove the center truck bed bolt covers (x2).

    Note
    Do not discard the bolt covers. Set the bolt covers aside and provide the covers to the customer once the retrofit procedure is complete.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Plastic trim tool
  42. Remove the bolts (x2) from the truck bed.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 15 mm socket
    • Cordless 3/8in Dr. Impact
  43. Position the D-rings (x2) on the truck bed with the hinges facing outwards, and then reinstall the bolts (x2) that attach the D-rings to the vehicle.
    56 Nm (41.3 lbs-ft)

    CAUTION
    Make sure the D-ring hinges are open when installing the bolts to avoid damaging the truck bed finish.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 15 mm deep socket
    • Cordless 3/8in Dr. Impact
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  44. For Cybertruck tool kit assembly 1990898-00-A only, perform the following steps:
    1. With assistance, position the spare tire in the truck bed between the D-rings (x2) with the outboard sides of the wheel and tire facing upward.
    2. Position the cover on the spare tire with the straps that secure the spare tire to the vehicle facing the rear of the truck bed.
    3. Attach the strap hooks (x2) to the D-rings (x2).
    4. Secure the cam coupler to the cover strap, and then tighten the strap from the RH side of the cover using the slack adjuster as required.

      CAUTION
      Make sure the spare tire is fully secured to the truck bed before proceeding.

      Note
      Use Velcro to secure excess slack to the top of the cover as required.
    5. Close the tailgate.
    6. Close the tonneau cover.
    7. Provide the tool kit and the center truck bed bolt covers (x2) to the customer once the retrofit procedure is complete.

      Note
      If the vehicle is equipped with a truck bed gear locker accessory, place the tool kit and bolt covers in the gear locker, and then inform the customer that the tool kit and bolt covers are properly stored in the gear locker.

  45. For Cybertruck tool kit assembly (customized) 1990898-00-B only, perform the following steps:
    1. With assistance, place the Expanded Polypropylene (EPP) foam tray, telescoping L-wrench, and the spare tire tool kit inside of the wheel and tire inner housing, and then position the spare tire in the truck bed between the D-rings (x2) with the outboard sides of the wheel and tire facing downward.

    2. Position the cover on the spare tire with the straps that secure the spare tire to the vehicle facing the rear of the truck bed.
    3. Attach the strap hooks (x2) to the D-rings (x2).
    4. Secure the cam coupler to the cover strap, and then tighten the strap from the RH side of the cover using the slack adjuster as required.

      CAUTION
      Make sure the spare tire is fully secured to the truck bed before proceeding.

    5. Close the tailgate.
    6. Close the tonneau cover.
    7. Provide the center truck bed bolt covers (x2) to the customer once the retrofit procedure is complete, and then inform the customer that the tool kit (1990898-00-B) is properly stored in the wheel and tire inner housing.
