Although it has been validated, Warnings and Cautions might be missing. Follow safety
requirements and use extreme caution when working on or near High Voltage systems and
components. Provide corrections and feedback to ServiceDevelopment@teslamotors.com.
- Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
- Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
- Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Install).
- Remove the frunk assembly. See Frunk Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Place the vehicle into Service Mode. See Service Mode.
- Unlock the vehicle Gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
- On the vehicle touchscreen, navigate to Service Mode > Thermal > Refrigerant System.

Touch Start Thermal Fill Drain (Coolant and
Refrigerant) and allow the routine to complete.
NoteAllow the routine to complete. Make sure the routine is successful.
- Disconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power (Modify).
- Remove all 4 wheels. See Wheels - Wheel (Remove and Install).

Release clips securing front portion of
the RH front wheel house liner

Remove front fascia RH side fastener and
connectors
Note1x bolt, 10mm, 6 Nm, 1x clip, 3x connectors, Pull wheel liner back for access, Pull red locking tab to release, Do not push down on locking tab

Raise vehicle fully
NoteSet to a comfortable working height, Lower to locks, Ensure locks engage on both sides to prevent tilting

Remove lower valence fasteners
Note2x clips, 2x covers, 6x bolts, 10mm, 6 Nm, Release covers to expose bolts
- Remove the front aeroshield. See Aeroshield - Front (Remove and Install).

Disconnect CFM connectors
Note2x connectors

Lower vehicle until tires are touching
the ground
NoteRaise lift off locks, then hold lock release lever to keep locks free while vehicle is lowered

Remove center applique
Note8x tabs, 1x connector, Release upper 4 tabs by pushing down then gently pull away, Release frunk release trigger connector

Remove front fascia fasteners
Note2x covers, 4x bolts, 10mm, 4 Nm, Remove tow hook covers to expose bolts

Remove front lower fascia assembly
NotePlace on suitable protective surface

Release harness from CFM
Note1x grommet, 2x connectors, 5x harness clips, Pull red locking tab to disengage louver connector, Release temperature sensor then disconnect, Release grommet and pull harness through from frunk area
- Place coolant catcher below RH front of vehicle

Disconnect radiator outlet hose from
radiator
Note1x spring clip, Remove from vehicle, Plug hoses

Disconnect radiator inlet hose from
radiator
Note1x spring clips, Plug hoses

Remove upper CFM fasteners
Note2x bolts, 10mm, 10 Nm, 2 upper fasteners accessible from frunk area

Raise vehicle partially and lower onto
locks
NoteSet vehicle to comfortable working height, Make sure there's an audible click of the locks on both sides before lowering, otherwise vehicle may tilt to the side

Remove lower CFM fasteners
Note2x bolts, 10mm, 10 Nm, 2 lower fasteners accessible through sides of CFM

Remove fore crossmember
Note2x bolts, 18mm, 90 Nm, PUSH up on CFM . Use hammer if needed, Recommend assistance

Remove CFM
NoteRecommend assistance, Remove from below vehicle, Ensure harness is not pinched during removal

Lower vehicle until tires are touching
the ground
NoteRaise lift off locks, then hold lock release lever to keep locks free while vehicle is lowered

Disconnect the HCU electrical
connector.
NoteDisengage the locking tab, and then pull up on the connector to release.

Remove the flexible master cylinder
brake lines (x2) from the HCU.16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 14 mm combination wrench

Remove the RH front brake line tube nut
from the HCU.16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 14 mm combination wrench

Remove the LH rear brake line tube nut
from the HCU.16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 14 mm combination wrench

Remove the RH rear brake line tube nut
from the HCU.16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 14 mm combination wrench

Remove the LH front brake line tube nut
from the HCU.16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 14 mm combination wrench

Remove HCU from bracket
Note3x rubber washers, Maneuver upward to release rubber washers from bracket, Be extremely cautious not to loose rubber washers, Move brake pipes as needed

Install HCU onto bracket
Note3x rubber washers, Maneuver downward to secure rubber washers onto bracket

Install the LH front brake line tube nut
onto hydraulic control unit hand tight
Note1x nut, 12mm, Hand tight

Torque LH front brake line tube
nut
Note1x nut, 12mm, 16 Nm

Install the RH rear brake line tube nut
onto hydraulic control unit hand tight
Note1x nut, 12mm, Hand tight

Torque RH rear brake line tube nut
Note1x nut, 12mm, 16 Nm

Install the LH rear brake line tube nut
onto hydraulic control unit hand tight
Note1x nut, 12mm, Hand tight

Torque LH rear brake line tube nut

Install the RH front brake line tube nut
onto hydraulic control unit hand tight

Install the flexible master cylinder
brake lines (x2) onto the HCU.16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 14 mm combination wrench

Connect the HCU electrical
connector.
NoteEngage the electrical connector, and then secure the locking tab.

Install CFM
NoteInstall from bottom, Assistance recommend Manipulate as required, Ensure harness is not pinched during install
-
Raise vehicle fully
NoteSet to a comfortable working height, Lower to locks, Ensure locks engage on both sides to prevent tilting
-
Install fore crossmember
Note2x bolts, 18mm, 90 Nm, Lift CFM away from beam to aid in clearance, Install beam by sliding rewards

Install lower CFM fasteners
Note2x bolts, 10mm, 10 Nm, 2 lower fasteners accessible through sides of CFM
-
Lower vehicle until tires are touching
the ground
NoteRaise lift off locks, then hold lock release lever to keep locks free while vehicle is lowered

Install upper CFM fasteners
Note2x bolts, 10mm, 10 Nm, Fasteners accessible from frunk area

Connect radiator outlet hose to
radiator
Note1x spring clip, Ensure hose is fully engaged with a push-pull-push test

Connect radiator inlet hose to
radiator
Note1x spring clips,Ensure hose is fully engaged with a push-pull-push test

Secure harness to CFM
Note1x grommet, 2x connector, 1x harness clip, Secure grommet then connect temperature sensor, Engage locking tab on louver connector
- Remove coolant catcher from below vehicle
-
Raise vehicle partially and lower lift
onto locks
NoteSet vehicle to comfortable working height, Make sure there's an audible click of the locks on both sides before lowering, otherwise vehicle may tilt to the side

Install front lower fascia
assembly
NoteEnsure no harnesses are pinched

Install front fascia fasteners and
covers
Note2x covers, 4x bolts, 10mm, 4 Nm, Install tow hook covers

Install center applique
Note8x tabs, 1x connector, Ensure all tabs engage, Secure frunk release trigger connector

Install RH fascia fastener and
connectors
Note1x bolt, 10mm, 6 Nm, 1x clip, 3x connectors, Pull wheel liner back for access, Engage locking tab

Secure RH wheel liner
Note4x clips

Install LH fascia fastener
Note1x bolt, 10mm, 6 Nm, Pull wheel liner back for access

Secure LH wheel liner
Note4x clips

Connect CFM connectors
Note2x connectors, Engage locking tab
- Install the front aeroshield. See Aeroshield - Front (Remove and Install).

Install lower valence fasteners
Note2x clips, 2x covers, 6x bolts, 10mm, 6 Nm, Secure covers

Lower vehicle until tires are touching
the ground
NoteRaise lift off locks, then hold lock release lever to keep locks free while vehicle is lowered
- Perform cooling system vacuum fill. See Cooling System (Vacuum Refill).
- Reconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power (Modify).

On the vehicle touchscreen, navigate to
Thermal > Actions > Test
Thermal Performance, touch Run, and allow the routine to
complete.
NoteIf the thermal test fails, follow Toolbox article 206000.
- Reinstall the vehicle software. See Software Reinstall - Touchscreen (Restore).
- Bleed all 4 brakes manually. See Brake Fluid Bleed - One Caliper.
- Bleed all 4 brakes using Toolbox. See Brake Fluid Bleed - One Caliper.
- Select "Actions" tab and search for ‘"Stiffness"

Select
"TEST_BRAKE_X_STIFFNESS-TEST-SERVICE", click "Run", and allow routine to complete
NoteSelect "X" at top right of window to close once complete
- Disconnect Toolbox 3 from vehicle and remove laptop
- Instal the frunk assembly. See Frunk Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Install).
- Install all 4 wheels. See Wheels - Wheel (Remove and Install).
- Remove the vehicle from the lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
- Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
