Brake Fluid Bleed - One Caliper

Brake Fluid Bleed (Manual)

CAUTION

Brake fluid dissolves paint. Have clean towels and plenty of water standing by to wash spilled brake fluid off painted surfaces.

Note

Dispose of used brake fluid in a manner consistent with local environmental codes.

  1. Clean area around brake fluid reservoir and remove brake reservoir cap
  2. Top off brake fluid reservoir

    Add fluid until at MAX line, Use only DOT 4 brake fluid
  3. Fill brake bleeder reservoir to full level

    Use only DOT 4 brake fluid
  4. Install pressure bleeder adapter onto reservoir

    Attach the brake reservoir hose to the brake adapter at this time
  5. Set pressure to 30psi

    Connect power supply to bleeder and turn on the power to set pressure to 30 psi
  6. Remove bleeding valve covers and install the fluid catching bottle to LH front outer brake caliper bleeding valve before starting the ESP

  7. Manually bleed LH front brake caliper by opening LH front brake caliper outer and inner bleeding valves

    2x bleeding valves, 11mm, 18.5 Nm (+/- 2 Nm) Base and Plus calipers, Begin with the outer valve first then move on to the inner valve then conclude with the outer valve again, Repeat step till clear fluid and no air bubbles come out of LH front brake caliper bleeding outer and inner valves
  8. Remove bleeding valve covers and install the fluid catching bottle to RH front outer brake caliper bleeding valve before starting the ESP

  9. Manually bleed RH front brake caliper by opening RH front brake caliper outer and inner bleeding valves

  10. Remove bleeding valve cover and install the fluid catching bottle to RH rear brake caliper bleeding valve before starting the ESP

    1x bleeding valve, 10mm, 10 Nm (+/- 3 Nm) Base caliper, 14 Nm (+/- 2 Nm) Plus caliper, Repeat step till clear fluid and no air bubbles come out of RH rear brake caliper bleeding valve
  12. Remove bleeding valve cover and install the fluid catching bottle to LH rear brake caliper bleeding valve before starting the ESP

Note

    If level is above Max line, remove extra fluid
  3. Fill brake bleeder reservoir to full level

  6. Connect to vehicle using Toolbox 3.0

    Vehicle OBD II connection is integrated into drivers lower IP cover, Open Toolbox 3 website and establish connection to the vehicle, https://toolbox.teslamotors.com, Select connection status icon at top right corner, and select connect locally (icon will turn green when vehicle is connected)
  7. Select "Actions" tab and search for ‘"bleed"
  8. Remove bleeding valve covers and install the fluid catching bottle to brake caliper bleeding valve before starting the ESP

  9. Open the brake caliper bleeding valve then Click the play button next to PROC_ESP_FRONT-L-REAR-R-BRAKE-BLEEDvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode:
    • Chassis ➜ Brakes ➜ Brake Bleed FL-RR
    • Chassis ➜ Brakes ➜ Brake Bleed FL-RR
    and select "Run" to start the ESP and then close the bleeding valve once the pump stops running

  10. Open the inner brake caliper bleeding valve then Click the play button next to PROC_ESP_FRONT-L-REAR-R-BRAKE-BLEEDvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode:
    • Chassis ➜ Brakes ➜ Brake Bleed FL-RR
    • Chassis ➜ Brakes ➜ Brake Bleed FL-RR
    and select "Run" to start the ESP and then close the bleeding valve once the pump stops running

  11. Repeat the above steps until clear fluid and no air bubbles come out of the brake caliper bleeding valve

  12. Remove the fluid catching bottle, Torque brake caliper bleeding valves and install covers

  13. Turn off and remove pressure brake bleeder kit from vehicle
  14. Check brake fluid level and top off reservoir if necessary

    If level is above Max line, remove extra fluid
  15. Install brake reservoir cap
  16. Pump brake pedal a few times to ensure pedal feels normal
  17. Select "Actions" tab and search for ‘"Stiffness"
  18. Select TEST_BRAKE_X_STIFFNESS-TEST-SERVICEvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode: Chassis ➜ Brakes ➜ Brake Stiffness Test, click "Run", and allow routine to complete

  19. Disconnect Toolbox 3 from vehicle and remove laptop
