Tonneau - Tonneau Slat Assembly - Chain Link (Remove and Install)

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Put the vehicle in Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  3. Open the tailgate.
  4. Open the tonneau cover.
  5. Partially remove the LH sail applique. Repeat this step for the RH sail applique.

    Release the rear portion of the LH sail applique and support it with inflatable airbag.
  6. Remove the LH tonneau rail seal. Repeat this step for the RH tonneau rail seal.

    Pull away from the rail to release from groove.
  7. Remove the rear lamp closeout applique. See Truck Bed Exterior Trim - Rear Lamp Closeout Applique - LH (Remove and Install).
  8. Remove the bolts (x3) that attach the LH tonneau rail slip datum. Repeat this step for the RH tonneau rail slip datum.
    11 Nm (8.1 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  9. Remove the LH tonneau rail slip datum. Repeat this step for the RH tonneau rail slip datum.
  10. Remove the LH tailgate bump stop. Repeat this step for the RH tailgate bump stop.

    Rotate, and then release inboard.
  11. Release the clips (x2) that attach the RH tail lamp applique.

    Tonneau jig currently in development. Apply tape to leading edges that will engage tonneau rails.
  13. Placeholder - Adjust height and pitch of tonneau jig in alignment with the tonneau bed rails.

    Connect air supply. Raise and adjust angle of tonneau jig on powertrain table to align with tonneau bed rails.

    Align the bottom of the tonneau jig with the bed tonneau rails.

    Using sail applique tonneau switch close tonneau slats until first rollers engage tonneau service jig. Ensure both rollers on each side are rolling onto jig and deflector clip is riding on jig.
  16. Connect a laptop with Toolbox to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  17. In Toolbox, click the Actions tab, and then search for "Tonneau."
  18. Click Tonneau Cover Calibration, and then click Run. Allow the routine to complete.

  19. Release the tonneau chain from the motors.

    Use tonneau calibration routine until both tonneau motors have audibly released the last links of the tonneau slat chain.
  20. Placeholder - Manually guide the remaining tonneau slats and chain out of the bed rails while moving the jig rearwards.

    LH & RH slats/chain assembly needs to be coordinated with the jig while removing from the bed rails. Refer to video clip.
  21. Remove the LH chain part kit, Tonneau Service Kit.

    x2 roller chain bolts, x2 sleeves, x2 bushings, x4 rollers.

    Use the special tonneau removal tool to release the roller bolts from the sleeve, and to remove it from the chain.
  22. Remove the tonneau chain.

    Remove the chain link from the tonneau.

Install

  1. Install the tonneau chain.

    Position the chain link onto the tonneau.
  2. Remove the LH chain part kit, Tonneau Service Kit.

    x2 roller chain bolts, x2 sleeves, x2 bushings, x4 rollers.

    Fully engage the LH roller bolts onto the sleeves to secure the chain part kit, Tonneau Service Kit onto the tonneau chain.
  3. Placeholder - Position the tonneau service jig above tailgate and at the same angle of the tonneau bed rails.

    Lay tonneau chain on the tailgate and tape ends to prevent any shifting.
  4. Placeholder - Feed the tonneau into the bed rails.

    Evenly feed the tonneau chain into bed rails and remove the tape once fully engaged in the bed rails. Continue to evenly feed slats into the bed rails until the chain engages tonneau motors. Monitor Y reaction clips entering the bed rails and ensure the clips do not bind on the rail. Monitor slats during install and ensure all are squared during install. Adjust as necessary. Refer to video clip to illustrate binding Y reaction clips and offset slats during installation.
  5. Re-establish vehicle connection to Toolbox 3.
  6. In Toolbox, click the Actions tab, and then search for "Tonneau."
  7. Click Tonneau Cover Calibration, and then click Run. Allow the routine to complete.

    Assistance recommended to engage slat chain with motors during calibration. Once the motors have engaged system will pull open until end stops are reached.
  9. Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).

    Back away from the tailgate. Lower jig. Remove air supply.
  11. Install the RH tailgate bump stop. Repeat this step for the LH tailgate bump stop.

    Rotate and secure.
  12. Install the RH tonneau rail slip datum. Repeat this step for the LH tonneau rail slip.

    Set 2 mm space between the datum and the end of bed rail.
  13. Install the bolts (x3) that attach the RH tonneau rail slip datum. Repeat this step for the LH tonneau rail slip datum.
    11 Nm (8.1 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket

    Hand start the center black locating bolt first.
  14. Install the RH tail lamp applique. Repeat this step for the LH tail lamp applique.

  15. Install the RH tonneau rail seal. Repeat this step for the LH tonneau rail seal.

  16. Secure the RH sail applique. Repeat this step for the LH sail applique.

    Remove the inflatable air bag. Clean off double sided tape from the sail and applique. Clean with Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) wipes and allow 1 minute dry time. Cut same length tape and apply.
  17. Close the tailgate.
  18. Close the tonneau cover.
  19. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  20. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
