Cooling System - Coolant (Drain and Refill)

Cybertruck electronics are powered by a 48V "mid voltage" or "MV" architecture that is designed to improve efficiency. Servicing MV components requires extra knowledge and care in order to avoid personal and/or vehicular harm. Read and understand MV precautions in Electrical Precautions and make sure any required MV-related training courses have been completed, as applicable.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  3. Run ODIN routine PROC_ICE_X_ENTER-SERVICE-MODEvia Toolbox: (link)
  4. Unlock the vehicle Gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  5. Access thermal system routines using the UI

    Select quick controls > Service mode > Diagnostics > Thermal, Authorize routines by holding right turn signal, depressing brake pedal for 10 seconds with key on phone dock
  6. Select 'Coolant System' to enter coolant circuit screen, Select 'Coolant Fill/Drain' using the UI and Thermal Fluid Fill/Drain (Coolant only), Select 'Run'

    Verify indicator displays green for Coolant readiness, Thermal Fill Drain routine has a 50 minute time limit
  7. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  8. Remove the frunk assembly. See Frunk Assembly (Remove and Install).
  9. Inspect the coolant cap to make sure it is fully tightened before continuing.
  10. Disconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power (Modify).
  11. Remove the front aero shield. See Undertray - Front Aeroshield (Remove and Install).
  12. Position coolant drain container

  13. Change to "Disconnect HV battery coolant return hose"

  14. Prepare drain and fill tooling

    3x adapters, 1x hose, 1x pressure tester
  15. Connect flush adapters onto HV battery coolant return hose

    2x adapters, Position hose onto empty container
  16. Connect enclosure leak tester onto flush adapter
  17. Close both valves on the regulator
  18. Connect regulator to air supply
  19. Turn right side regulator valve to the open position

    By turning the valve knob to a horizontal position, The valve is fully open
  20. Set regulator to 5.0 psi
  21. Slowly open left side regulator valve and allow coolant to completely drain

    Allow about 20L of coolant to drain from vehicle
  22. Close valves on regulator once no coolant is draining from HV battery RH front inlet port and hose
  23. Disconnect air supply from regulator tool
  24. Disconnect flush adapters from HV battery coolant return hose

  25. Connect HV battery coolant return hose

  26. Install the front aero shield. See Undertray - Front Aeroshield (Remove and Install).
  27. Lower the vehicle until the tires are touching the ground.
  28. Perform cooling system vacuum refill. See Cooling System (Vacuum Refill).

    Skip the steps to run the Start Thermal Fill Drain (Coolant + Refrigerant) on the UI.
  29. Install the frunk assembly. See Frunk Assembly (Remove and Install).
  30. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  31. Remove the vehicle from the lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  32. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  33. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
