Front Brake Rotors - Calipers and Pads - Service Front Brake Caliper Boot Kit (Remove and Install)

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  3. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  4. Place shop rags underneath the brake fluid reservoir.
  5. Clean the area around the brake fluid reservoir and remove the brake reservoir cap.
  6. Remove the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  7. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH front brake hose bracket to the knuckle.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm deep socket
  8. Remove the LH front brake pad anti-rattle springs.. See Front Brake Rotors - Calipers and Pads - Service Front Brake Caliper Spring Kit (Remove and Install).
  9. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the LH front caliper to the knuckle, and then use an S-hook to hang the caliper from the body.
    315 Nm (232.3 lbs-ft)

    Note
    The rotor will be loose until the caliper is reinstalled. Use lug nut to secure the rotor as needed.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 24 mm socket
  10. Remove LH front caliper and set aside

    2x bolts, 24mm, 315 Nm, Rotor will be loose until caliper is installed, Use lug nut to secure rotor as needed
  11. Remove the brake pads from the LH front caliper.
  12. Placeholder - Compress LH front brake caliper pistons.

  13. Clean the LH front brake caliper.

    Use a nylon brush and brake cleaner as needed. Allow 1 minute of dry time.
  14. Clean the LH front brake caliper anti-rattle springs (x2).

    Use soapy water or brake cleaner as needed. Allow 1 minute of dry time.
  15. Insert a pick underneath the center of the LH front brake caliper boot, and then work the pick around the boot to remove it. Repeat this for the remaining boots.

Install

  1. Position the LH front brake caliper boot into the caliper, and then press the center of the boot with both thumbs to install it. Repeat this step for the remaining boots.
  2. Install the brake pads (x2) into the LH front caliper.
  3. With assistance, position the LH front caliper onto the knuckle, and then install the bolts (x2) that attach the caliper to the knuckle.
    315 Nm (232.3 lbs-ft)

    The rotor will be loose until the caliper is installed.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 24 mm socket
  4. Install the LH front brake pad anti-rattle springs.. See Front Brake Rotors - Calipers and Pads - Service Front Brake Caliper Spring Kit (Remove and Install).
  5. Install the bolt that attaches the LH front brake hose bracket to the knuckle.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm deep socket
  6. Lower the vehicle to access the frunk area.
  7. Check the brake fluid level and top off the reservoir if necessary.

    Note
    If the brake fluid level is above the Max line, remove any extra fluid.
  8. Install the brake reservoir cap.
  9. Pump the brake pedal a few times to ensure the pedal feels normal.
  10. Remove the shop rags from underneath the brake fluid reservoir.
  11. Install the LH rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  12. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  13. Remove the vehicle from the lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  14. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
  15. Perform a road test and burnish the brakes.
