NOTE: Unless otherwise explicitly stated in the procedure, the above correction code and FRT reflect all of the work required to perform this procedure, including the linked procedures. Do not stack correction codes unless explicitly told to do so.
NOTE: See Flat Rate Times to learn more about FRTs and how they are created. To provide feedback on FRT values, email LaborTimeFeedback@tesla.com.
NOTE: See Personal Protection to make sure wearing proper PPE when performing the below procedure.
Warning
This procedure is a DRAFT.
Although it has been validated, Warnings and Cautions might be missing. Follow safety
requirements and use extreme caution when working on or near High Voltage systems and
components. Provide corrections and feedback to ServiceDevelopment@teslamotors.com.
- Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
-
Slide eCPA to left on MV battery
connector then lift lever to release.
Note1x connector, Release eCPA by pushing down to unlock and slide red locking tab to LH
-
Secure MV battery maintainer and support
vehicle.
Note1x cover, Secure MV maintainer but leave the Li-ion battery disconnected, Secure positive terminal to jump post, Secure negative terminal to bolt located between brake fluid reservoir and front trunk, Connect maintainer to power supply, DO NOT allow positive cable to make contact with other metal components, Prevent shorting the cables
-
Slide eCPA to right and ensure slide is seated against black lever
Note1x connectors, Slide and secure red locking tab on top of release lever
- Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
- Place the vehicle into Service Mode. See Service Mode.
- Unlock the vehicle Gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
-
Remove MV battery maintainer.
Note1x cover, Unplug the maintainer first, then remove positive and negative leads from jump posts, Re-secure any jump post covers
-
Verify the status of the MV battery.
NoteIf after 2 minutes of PCS support, alerts VCLEFT_a478_LVBMS_MOSFET_Open or VCBATT_a478_LVBMS_MOSFET_Open are present, the MV battery has not auto-recovered. Auto-recovery can be manually attempted via touchscreen or Toolbox:
- Touchscreen:
- Toolbox: Run the ActionPROC_VCFRONT_X_RECONNECT-LV-BATTERYvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode: Low Voltage ➜ Power Distribution ➜ Close MOSFET
NoteIf the steps above do not succeed in auto-recovering the MV battery, recover the battery using the Tesla Li-Ion battery charger (STILL IN DEVELOPMENT).- Verify that the battery is not discharging at high current and is not self-protecting.
- Go to Service Mode > Mid Voltage > Power Distribution > MV Battery and confirm that MV battery SoC is increasing.
- Verify that the MV Battery MOSFET status is Closed.
- Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
- Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
