- Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
- Remove the LH and RH rear wheel caps. See Wheel Cover - Front - LH (Remove and Install).
-
Loosen the LH and RH rear wheel lug nuts.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 21 mm socket
-
Loosen the LH and RH rear halfshaft bolts.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 24 mm socket
- Raise the vehicle fully.
-
Remove the LH and RH rear wheels.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 21 mm socket
-
Remove the LH rear halfshaft bolt.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 24 mm socket
-
Release the connector lock, and then disconnect the EPB harness connector from the LH rear brake caliper.
-
Remove the bolt that attaches the LH rear brake line to the upper control arm, and then release the brake line from the control arm.TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm socket
-
Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the LH rear brake caliper to the knuckle, and then use an S-hook hang the caliper aside.NoteRoute the caliper hose so that it does not get caught on stabilizer bar assembly.NoteHang the caliper from the body.TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 21 mm socket
-
Remove and discard the nut that attaches the LH rear upper control arm to the knuckle.CAUTIONMove the brake hose aside to avoid damage.TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 21 mm socket
-
Wrap the halfshaft removal cable around the inner joint of the LH rear halfshaft, and then install and hand tighten the U-bolt and fasteners (x2).
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm socket
-
Use the slide hammer with the cable eyelets to release the LH rear halfshaft.
CAUTIONBe careful when removing the halfshaft from the vehicle to avoid damage to the halfshaft boots and oil seals.
-
Position the LH rear halfshaft into the vehicle, and with the axle straight, apply pressure inwards until the C-clip clicks into position.
TIpPosition the C-clip opening at bottom of axle to ease installation.NoteMake sure the axle is fully seated into the drive unit.NoteAn audible click indicates the C-clip is fully engaged.NoteIf an audible click is not heard, adjust the shaft position and reinstall.
-
Install a new nut that attaches the upper control arm to the knuckle.NoteMake sure the brake hose is properly routed.NoteCounter-hold the joint to install the nut.TIpSupport the suspension to ease installation.TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 21 mm socket
-
Engage the LH rear halfshaft to the LH rear hub assembly, and then install and hand-tighten the halfshaft bolt until the bolt flange is seated on the hub.
NoteAfter positioning the halfshaft against the hub, rotate the hub until the splines click. If splines are properly engaged, the hub will rotate halfshaft.NoteWith the halfshaft properly engaged with the hub assembly, tighten the bolt so that the bolt flange is seated on the hub. This will prevent accidental spline disengagement until the bolt is torqued.TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 24 mm socket
-
Position the LH rear brake caliper to the knuckle, and install the bolts (x2) that attach the caliper to the knuckle.TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
