Front Air Spring - Front Air Spring Module - LH (Remove and Install)

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Place the air suspension into "Jack Mode".

    On the vehicle touchscreen, navigate to Controls > Suspension > Jack Mode.
  3. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  4. Remove the frunk assembly. See Frunk Assembly (Remove and Install).
  5. Remove the bolt that attaches the brake fluid reservoir to the Megabeam, and then release the reservoir from the Megabeam.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Push under the cowl to allow access.

    CAUTION
    Avoid tipping the reservoir over.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  6. Remove and discard the nuts (x3) that attach the LH front air spring module to the vehicle.
    105 Nm (77.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 18 mm socket
  7. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  8. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  9. In Toolbox, click the Actions tab, and then search for "TAS service run".
  10. Click PROC_TAS_X_ENTER-SERVICE-MODEvia Toolbox: (link), click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  11. Click the Actions tab, and then search for "Deflate Spring".
  12. Click PROC_TAS_X_DEFLATEvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode: Chassis ➜ Suspension ➜ Deflate, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  13. Remove the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  14. Release the clips (x2) that attach the harness to the LH front air spring module, and then release the connector locks and disconnect the electrical connectors (x2).

    Note
    Pull the grey tab, then push down to release the connector.
  15. Release the clips (x4) that attach the LH front air spring module cover to the air spring module assembly, and then release the cover from the assembly.

    Do not remove the cover from the brake hose.
  16. Disconnect the LH front air line.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

    Remove and discard the fitting once disconnected.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 14 mm combination wrench
  17. Remove and discard the nut that attaches the front steering actuator LH tie rod to the LH front knuckle, and then remove the tie rod from the knuckle.
    170 Nm (125.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 21 mm socket
  18. Remove the bolts (x3) that attach the LH lower control arm shield to the vehicle, and then remove the shield from the vehicle.
    7 Nm (5.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  19. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the LH front air spring module to the lower control arm.
    135 Nm (99.6 lbs-ft)

    Warning
    Be prepared for some spring load to release from the bushings.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 21 mm socket
  20. Remove the LH front air spring module.

    Note
    Make sure no harnesses or lines remain attached.

Install

  1. Position the LH front air spring module into the vehicle.

    Make sure the damper valves are facing toward the rear of the vehicle.
  2. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the LH front air spring module to the lower control arm.
    135 Nm (99.6 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 21 mm socket
  3. Position the LH lower control arm shield to the vehicle, and then install the bolts (x3) that attach the shield to the vehicle.
    7 Nm (5.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  4. Position the steering actuator LH tie rod to the LH front knuckle, and then install a new nut that attaches the tie rod to the knuckle.
    170 Nm (125.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 21 mm socket
  5. Install the new fitting that is supplied with the new air spring module, remove the plastic cap from the VOSS fitting, and then install the LH front air line into the air spring module.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Press the air line into the fitting until the mark aligns with the top of the fitting.

    Note
    Perform a push-pull-push test to verify the line is properly secured.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 14 mm combination wrench
  6. Attach the LH front air spring module cover to the air spring module assembly.
  7. Position the harness to the LH front air spring module, connect the electrical connectors (x2) and engage the connector locks, and then secure the clips (x2) that attach the harness to the air spring module.
  8. Install the LH front wheel onto the vehicle and hand tighten the lugs.
  9. Lower the vehicle until the tires are touching the ground.
  10. Install new nuts (x3) that attach the LH front air spring module to the vehicle.
    105 Nm (77.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 18 mm socket
  11. Position the brake fluid reservoir to the Megabeam, and then install the bolt that attaches the reservoir to the Megabeam.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Make sure there is no fluid loss. Top off as needed.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  12. Re-establish vehicle connection to Toolbox 3.
  13. In Toolbox, click the Actions tab, and then search for "TAS service run".
  14. Click PROC_TAS_X_ENTER-NORMAL-MODEvia Toolbox: (link), click Run, and allow the routine to complete
  15. Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  16. Install the frunk assembly. See Frunk Assembly (Remove and Install).
  17. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  18. Install the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  19. Remove the vehicle from the lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  20. Verify operation of the air suspension.

    Note
    Cycle ride height via touchscreen. Navigate to Controls > Suspension > ''Low'' - 'High''.

    All doors must be closed to allow ride height to cycle.
  21. Set the suspension back to ''Standard''.
  22. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
