Rear Drive Unit - RDU Oil (Tri Motor) (Top Off)

  • 1450424-00-A - SET, 1/2" CUT BIT. (78 PCS DOUBLE END MINI RATCHET)
  • 1076971-02-A - Torque Wrench 1/4in Dr. + Angle
  • 1965406-00-A - TORQUE WRENCH, DIGITAL+ANGLE, 3/8" DR, FLEX HEAD, 13.5~135Nm
  • 1115137-00-A - SKT, 1/4" DR, HEX BIT, METRIC, 6MM
  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  3. Remove the mid-aero shield. See Undertray - Mid Aeroshield (Remove and Install).
  4. Position an oil drain container underneath the rear drive unit.
  5. Assemble the tools required to correctly torque the drain and fill bolts.
    • 1450424-00-A - SET, 1/2" CUT BIT
    • 1450424-00-A - DOUBLE END MINI RATCHET
    • 1115137-00-A - SKT, 1/4" DR, HEX BIT, METRIC, 6MM
    • 1965406-00-A - TORQUE WRENCH, DIGITAL+ANGLE, 3/8" DR, FLEX HEAD, 13.5~135Nm
  6. Remove the oil fill plug from the rear drive unit.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Double end mini ratchet
    • 8 mm hex
  7. Set up fill kit with KAF1 fluid.

    Note
    Add extra oil to container as it will prevent underfill and additional air being injected.

    CAUTION
    Only use KAF1 fluid; do not interchange or mix oil types.
  8. Position the oil pump hose into the fill hole.
  9. Turn the lever on the fill hose to the "ON" position, and then pump fluid into the rear drive unit until fluid spills out.

    Note
    Use excess gearbox fluid in fill container to allow oil pump to dispense fluid without drawing air.

    Note
    Make sure that there is less than 200mL remaining when fill is complete.
  10. Turn the lever on the fill hose to the "OFF" position, and then remove the oil pump hose from the fill port.
  11. Spray the area with brake cleaner and wipe away any residual fluid.
  12. Using the tools listed in the previous step, install the fill plug into the drive unit and torque the bolt to specification.

    CAUTION
    While using the extension, set the digital torque wrench to 11 Nm. The resulting torque on the bolt will be 15 Nm with the extension.

    If using tools not listed in this procedure, make sure the final torque on the bolt is 15 Nm.

    Note
    Inspect the O-ring for damage and replace if needed.
  13. Remove the oil drain container from underneath vehicle.
  14. Install the mid-aero shield. See Undertray - Mid Aeroshield (Remove and Install).
  15. Remove the vehicle from the lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  16. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
