Steering Gear - Rear (Standard) (Remove and Install)

Cybertruck electronics are powered by a 48V "mid voltage" or "MV" architecture that is designed to improve efficiency. Servicing MV components requires extra knowledge and care in order to avoid personal and/or vehicular harm. Read and understand MV precautions in Electrical Precautions and make sure any required MV-related training courses have been completed, as applicable.

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  3. Place the vehicle into Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  4. Open the tonneau cover.
  5. Open the tailgate.
  6. Disconnect MV power. See Mid-Voltage Power (Disconnect and Connect) (Modify).
  7. Remove the bed floor assembly. See Bed Floor Assembly (Long Range) (Remove and Install).
  8. Remove the LH and RH rear wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install)
  9. Remove bolt securing RH rear tie rod to rear steering actuator

  10. Remove RH rear toe link from RH rear knuckle

    1x nut, 21mm, 170 Nm, Counter hold ball joint, Discard nyloc nut after removal
  11. Remove LH rear toe link from rear steering actuator

  12. Remove LH rear toe link from LH rear knuckle

    1x nut, 21mm, 170 Nm, Counter hold ball joint, Discard nyloc nut after removal
  13. Lower vehicle partially and set lift onto locks

    Raise lift off locks, then hold lock release lever to keep locks free while vehicle is lowered, Set vehicle to comfortable working height
  14. Disconnect rear steering actuator connector

  15. Remove bolts securing RH side of rear steering actuator onto rear subframe

  16. Remove bolts securing LH side of rear steering actuator to rear subframe

  17. Remove rear steering actuator from vehicle

    Rotate rear steering actuator onto side and pivot to the left side to release actuator out from rear subframe, Use caution when removing rear steering actuator from rear subframe, Avoid damaging any HV cable, body harness and ride height sensor
  18. Position rear steering actuator into vehicle for installation

    Rotate rear steering actuator onto side, Insert the right side of steering actuator to position onto rear subframe, Use caution when installing rear steering actuator onto rear subframe, Avoid damaging any HV cable, body harness and ride height sensor
  19. Install bolts securing LH side of rear steering actuator to rear subframe

  20. Install bolts securing RH side of rear steering actuator to rear subframe

  21. Install rear steering actuator connector

    1x connector, Secure locking tab, 1x harness clip, Position harness into place for installation
  22. Reinstall the vehicle software. See Software Reinstall - Touchscreen (Restore).
  23. Install the bed floor assembly. See Bed Floor Assembly (Long Range) (Remove and Install).
  24. Connect a laptop with Toolbox to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  25. Raise vehicle partially and lower lift onto locks

    Set vehicle to comfortable working height, Make sure there's an audible click of the locks on both sides before lowering, otherwise vehicle may tilt to the side
  26. Position LH rear toe link onto rear steering actuator

  27. Install LH rear toe link onto LH rear knuckle

  28. Position RH rear toe link onto rear steering actuator

  29. Install RH rear toe link onto RH rear knuckle

  30. Position and raise pole jack onto LH rear lower control arm
  31. Torque bolt securing LH rear toe link to rear steering actuator

  32. Lower and remove pole jack from LH rear lower control arm
  33. Position and raise pole jack onto RH rear lower control arm
  34. Torque bolt securing RH rear toe link to rear steering actuator

  35. Lower and remove pole jack from RH rear lower control arm
  36. Install the LH and RH rear wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  37. Reconnect MV power. See Mid-Voltage Power (Disconnect and Connect) (Modify).
  38. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Install).
  39. Remove the vehicle from the lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  40. Run ODIN routine PROC_ICE_X_EXIT-SERVICE-MODEvia Toolbox:(link)
  41. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
  42. Review wheel alignment requirements and add correction code as needed.
