Remove

  1. This procedure requires refrigerant evacuation and recharge. Add specific evacuation and recharge correction code as needed.
  2. Set up the A/C machine.

    Connect to power. Turn power switch on.
  3. On the touchscreen, touch Controls > Service > Jack Mode to enable Jack Mode.
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  5. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  6. Place the vehicle into Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  7. Unlock the vehicle Gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  8. On the vehicle touchscreen, navigate to Service Mode > Thermal > Refrigerant System..
  9. Tap Start Thermal Fill Drain (Refrigerant only), and allow the routine to complete.

  10. Open the powered frunk.
  11. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  12. Remove the frunk. See Frunk Assembly (Remove and Install).
  13. Disconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  14. Perform Vehicle HV Disablement procedure. See Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure.
  15. Recover the A/C refrigerant. See A/C Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge).
  16. Remove bolt that attaches the brake fluid reservoir to the vehicle, and then lift the reservoir to release it from the datum and position the assembly aside.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

    CAUTION
    Do not allow the reservoir to tip over.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  17. Release the connector lock, and then disconnect the A/C compressor logic electrical connector.

    Do not push down on red tab. Pull to disengage lock, and then pull again to release the electrical connector.
  18. Release the connector lock, and then disconnect the A/C Compressor HV harness electrical connector from the A/C Compressor.

    Pull the red locking tab away from the black lever, and then slide the black lever upwards.
  19. Remove the bolt that attaches the A/C compressor ground strap, and then release the harness edge clip.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  20. With assistance supporting the A/C compressor, remove bolts (x3) that attach the A/C compressor to the Megabeam, and then carefully maneuver the compressor towards the front of the vehicle and under the Megabeam. Place a fender cover over the fan housing and gently place the compressor down.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)

    Avoid straining the MV or HV harnesses.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  21. Remove the nuts (x2) that attach the refrigerant suction and discharge lines from the A/C compressor, and then remove the lines from the A/C compressor.
    22 Nm (16.2 lbs-ft)

    Make sure that the washers do not remain on the A/C compressor.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket

Install

  1. Install the A/C flush adapters onto the suction and discharge lines on the A/C compressor side.
    22 Nm (16.2 lbs-ft)

    Use 13 mm nuts from the A/C compressor to secure the flush adapters.

    Inspect O-rings and replace them, if damaged.

    Leave the seal washers on the A/C manifold line.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  2. Perform the A/C System Flush procedure.

    Note
    System flush procedure runs for approximately 90 minutes. Minimum of 3200g of refrigerant needed in the tank to run system flush procedure. On the A/C machine main menu, select Manual > Flushing Kit. Enter 25 min vacuum time Enter > Connect and open couplers > Enter.

    A/C machine will perform multiple flush cycles.

    Allow process to complete.
  3. Remove the compressor assembly from the vehicle.
  4. Release the tabs (x5) that secure the NVH cover to the old A/C compressor, and then remove the NVH cover from the compressor.
  5. Position the NVH cover onto the new A/C compressor, and then engage the tabs (x5).

    Make sure that the NVH cover is secured before continuing to the next step.
  6. Install the refrigerant suction and discharge lines to the A/C compressor, and then install the nuts (x2).
    22 Nm (16.2 lbs-ft)

    Install new washer seals.

    Position the A/C lines onto the studs, and then install the nuts.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  7. With assistance positioning and supporting the A/C compressor to the Megabeam, install the bolts (x3) that attach the A/C compressor to the Megabeam.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)

    Support the A/C compressor while installing the fasteners.

    Start bolts by hand, and then torque the bolts to specification.

  8. Align the datum on the remote brake fluid reservoir to the guide, slide the reservoir downward into position, and then install the bolt that attaches the reservoir to the vehicle.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

    • 10 mm socket
  9. Connect the AC Compressor HV harness to the AC Compressor, and then secure the connector lock.

    Slide the black lever down, and then push the red lock inwards.

    Make sure the red locking tab is pushed all the way in. The red locking tab should sit flush with the black lever.

    Perform a push-pull-push test to ensure the connector is fully connected.

  10. Install the bolt that attaches the A/C compressor ground strap to the vehicle.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  11. Connect the A/C compressor logic electrical connector, and then engage the connector lock.
  12. Reconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  13. On the vehicle touchscreen, navigate to Service Mode UI > Software Reinstall > Reinstallto reinstall the vehicle software.

    Vehicle software installation will begin immediately.
  14. Perform the A/C Vacuum and Run Leak Test. See A/C Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge).
  15. Perform the A/C refrigerant recharge. See A/C Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge).
  16. Perform the A/C performance tests. See A/C Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge).
  17. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  18. Install the frunk. See Frunk Assembly (Remove and Install).
  19. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  20. Remove the vehicle from the lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  21. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
