Trailer Hitch - Tow Hitch (Remove and Install)

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Place the vehicle into Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  3. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  4. Disconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  5. Remove the rear fascia assembly. See Rear Bumper Fascia - Rear Fascia (Remove and Install).
  6. Remove the LH and RH rear center step brackets. See Rear Bumper Fascia - Fascia Step Bracket Center - LH (Remove and Install).
  7. Remove the LH and RH rear body side brackets. See Rear Bumper Fascia - Body Side Bracket - LH (Remove and Install).
  8. Remove the rear center bracket. See Rear Energry Absorber - Center Bracket (Remove and Install).
  9. Remove the trailer ECU. See Body Controllers - Trailer ECU (Remove and Install).
  10. Disconnect the trailer connector socket, and then release the clips that attach the connector housing and harness to the vehicle.

    Press the tabs to release connector socket.
  11. With assistance, remove the fasteners (x12) that attach the tow hitch assembly to the vehicle, and then remove the assembly from the vehicle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • 15 mm socket
    • 18 mm socket

Install

  1. With assistance, position the tow hitch assembly to the vehicle, and then install the fasteners (x12) that attach the tow hitch to the vehicle.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    44 Nm (32.4 lbs-ft)
    178 Nm (131.3 lbs-ft)

    Note
    The fastener torque values are as follows:
    • 13 mm bolts (x2): 16 Nm
    • 15 mm bolts (x4): 44 Nm
    • 18 mm bolts (x6): 178 Nm
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • 15 mm socket
    • 18 mm socket
  2. Connect the trailer connector socket, and then secure the clips that attach the connector housing and harness to the vehicle.

    Note
    Push inward to secure the connector socket.
  3. Install the trailer ECU. See Body Controllers - Trailer ECU (Remove and Install).
  4. Install the rear center bracket. See Rear Energry Absorber - Center Bracket (Remove and Install).
  5. Install the LH and RH rear body side brackets. See Rear Bumper Fascia - Body Side Bracket - LH (Remove and Install).
  6. Install the LH and RH rear center step brackets. See Rear Bumper Fascia - Fascia Step Bracket Center - LH (Remove and Install).
  7. Install the rear fascia assembly. See Rear Bumper Fascia - Rear Fascia (Remove and Install).
  8. Reconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  9. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  10. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  11. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
