Check Strap, Rear (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Put the vehicle in Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  3. Open the LH rear door and lower the LH rear window.
  4. Remove the LH rear beltline assembly. See Rear Door Trim Pad - Beltline Assembly - LH (Remove and Install).
  5. Remove the LH rear door inner waist belt seal. See Front and Rear Door Seals - Inner Waist Belt Seal, Rear Door, LH (Remove and Install).
  6. Use a pocket screwdriver to manually latch the LH front door.
  7. Raise the LH rear window.
  8. Remove the LH rear door trim. See Rear Door Trim Pad - Door Trim Rear - LH (Remove and Install).
  9. Remove the LH rear door moving glass. See Door Glass - Moving Glass - Rear LH (Remove and Install)
  10. Disconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  11. Release the locking tabs and disconnect the LH rear door harness connectors (x4), and then release the clips (x5) that attach the harness to the LH rear door closeout panel.
  12. Remove the bolts (x13) and release the datums (x2) that attach the LH rear door closeout panel to the door assembly, and then remove the closeout panel from the door assembly.

    Gently pry the panel to release the datums (x2).

    Pull the bottom portion of the panel away from the door assembly, and then lower the assembly to allow clearance for the regulator rails.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 8 mm socket
    • 10 mm socket
  13. Release the door check device closeout, and then remove the fasteners (x3) that attach the LH rear door check device to the vehicle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T40 socket or 13 mm hex
    • 10 mm socket

    Note
    If the vehicle has a Torx T40 bolt, remove and discard the bolt, and then replace it with a 13 mm hex bolt (1623708-00-A) that is to be installed later in this procedure.

  14. Rotate the LH rear door check device 90 degrees, and then remove the door check device from the vehicle.

Install

  1. Position the LH rear door check device into the door assembly, and then rotate the door check device 90 degrees.
  2. Install the fasteners (x3) that attach the LH rear door check device to the vehicle, and then secure the door check device closeout.
    8.5 Nm (6.3 lbs-ft)
    35 Nm (25.8 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Torque the nuts (x2) to 8.5 Nm, and the 13 mm hex bolt to 35 Nm.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm hex
    • 10 mm socket
  3. Position the LH rear door closeout panel to the door assembly, and then install the bolts (x13) and datums (x2) that attach the closeout panel to the door assembly.
    4 Nm (2.9 lbs-ft)
    12 Nm (8.8 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Torque the 8mm bolts (x11) to 4 Nm, and the 10 mm bolts (x2) to 12 Nm.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 8 mm socket
    • 10 mm socket
  4. Connect the LH rear door harness connectors (x4) and secure the connector locks, and then install the clips (x5) that attach the harness to the LH rear door closeout panel.
  5. Connect an external window switch.
  6. Position the LH rear door glass into the vehicle, and then install and hand tighten the bolts (x2) that attach the glass to the vehicle.

    CAUTION
    Be careful of the glass slipping off the mount.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  7. Pull the emergency cable to manually unlatch the LH rear door.
  8. Reconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  9. Close the LH rear door.
  10. Check and adjust gap and flushness.

    Note
    Connect an external window switch to help with adjustment.
  11. Open the LH rear door.
  12. Torque the fasteners for window regulator, and then install the grommets (x2).
    4 Nm (2.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  13. Disconnect the external window switch.
  14. Install the LH rear door inner waist belt seal. See Front and Rear Door Seals - Inner Waist Belt Seal, Rear Door, LH (Remove and Install).
  15. Install the LH rear door trim. See Rear Door Trim Pad - Door Trim Rear - LH (Remove and Install).
  16. Install the LH rear beltline assembly. See Rear Door Trim Pad - Beltline Assembly - LH (Remove and Install).
  17. Raise the LH rear window and close the LH rear door.
  18. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
