Harness - Tailgate (Remove and Install)

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. With the tailgate closed, remove the lower tailgate inner cover fasteners (x2).
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)

    • Torx T30 socket
    • 2 in extension

  3. Open the tailgate.
  4. Open the tonneau cover.
  5. Place a support stand under the tailgate to support the tailgate.
  6. Remove the tailgate top applique. See Top Applique - Tailgate (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH tailgate strap to the tailgate, and then release the strap from the tailgate. Repeat this step for the RH tailgate strap.
    28 Nm (20.6 lbs-ft)

  8. Remove the RH rear bed closeout. See Bed Closeout - Rear - LH (Remove and Install).
  9. Disconnect tailgate harness electrical connectors (x2), and then release the clips (x3) that attach the harness to the vehicle.

    Release locking tab, and then disconnect the electrical connector.
  10. Remove the remaining tailgate inner cover screws (x4) and bolts (x4).

    • Torx T30 socket
    • 8 mm socket
  11. Release the harness clip on the RH side of the tailgate, pivot the tailgate inner cover forward to disconnect the puddle lamp electrical connector, and then remove the tailgate inner cover from the tailgate.

    Note
    Release harness clip before lifting.
  12. Remove the tailgate lamp. See Lamp - Tailgate (Remove and Install).
  13. Release the locking tab, and then disconnect the LH tailgate latch connector. Repeat this step for the RH tailgate latch connector.

  14. Release the harness clips (x10), and then pull the exterior harness through the tailgate opening to remove it from the tailgate.

Install

  1. Feed the exterior harness through the tailgate opening to install it into the liftgate, and then secure the harness clips (x10).
  2. Connect the LH tailgate latch connector, and then engage the connector lock. Repeat this step for the RH tailgate latch connector.

  3. Install the tailgate lamp. See Lamp - Tailgate (Remove and Install).
  4. Position the tailgate inner cover 90 degrees to the tailgate, connect the puddle lamp connector, and then pivot the inner cover into position to install the harness clip on the RH side.
  5. Install the tailgate inner cover screws (x4) and bolts (x4).
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)

  6. Position the RH tailgate strap to the tailgate, and then install bolt that attaches the strap to the tailgate.
    28 Nm (20.6 lbs-ft)

  7. Connect tailgate harness electrical connectors (x2), and then secure clips (x3) that attach the harness to the vehicle.

    Connect the electrical connector, and then secure the connector lock.
  8. Install the RH rear bed closeout. See Bed Closeout - Rear - LH (Remove and Install).
  9. Position the RH tailgate strap to the tailgate, and then install bolt that attaches the strap to the tailgate.
    28 Nm (20.6 lbs-ft)

  10. Install the tailgate top applique. See Top Applique - Tailgate (Remove and Replace).
  11. Remove the support stand from underneath the tailgate.
  12. Close the tailgate.
  13. Close the tonneau cover.
  14. Install the lower tailgate inner cover fasteners (x2).
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)

  15. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
