Oil Pump - Rear Drive Unit - LH (Tri Motor) (Remove and Replace)

Cybertruck electronics are powered by a 48V "mid voltage" or "MV" architecture that is designed to improve efficiency. Servicing MV components requires extra knowledge and care in order to avoid personal and/or vehicular harm. Read and understand MV precautions in Electrical Precautions and make sure any required MV-related training courses have been completed, as applicable.
  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  3. Place the vehicle into Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  4. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  5. Disconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  6. Raise vehicle fully

    Set to a comfortable working height, Lower to locks, Ensure locks engage on both sides to prevent tilting
  7. Remove the mid aeroshield. See Undertray - Mid Aeroshield (Remove and Install).
  8. Disconnect LHS RDU oil pump connector

  9. Position oil drain underneath RDU
  10. Remove bolts securing RDU oil pump

    2x bolts, EP10, 5 Nm + 20 degrees
  11. Remove RDU oil pump

    Note
    Carefully insert plastic wedge between pump and housing, In small increments work wedge between housing and pump until green O-ring is visible, Residual oil will drain from housing, Allow oil to drain
  12. Position RDU oil pump

    Lubricate seals before installation
  13. Install bolts securing RDU oil pump

    Note
    2x bolts, EP10, 5 Nm + 20 degrees
  14. Connect LHS RDU oil pump connector

  15. Placeholder - Remove oil fill plug from RDU

    1x plug, 8mm Allen, 15 Nm, Verify O-ring is not damaged, Replace O-ring as needed, Tooling used for torque is still in development
  16. Set up fill kit with KAF1

    Add extra oil to container as it will prevent underfill and additional air being injectedOnly use KAF1 fluid, Do not interchange or mix oil types
  17. Position oil pump hose into fill hole
  18. Pump fluid into rear drive unit

    Pump fluid into drive unit until fluid spills outUse excess gearbox fluid in fill container to allow oil pump to dispense fluid without drawing air, Make sure that there is less than 200mL left when completed
  19. Remove oil pump hose from fill port

    Turn knob to off and remove from fill hole
  20. Spray area with brake cleaner and wipe any residual fluid

    1x plug, 8mm Allen, 15 Nm, Verify O-ring is not damaged, Replace O-ring as needed, Tooling used for torque is still in development
  22. Remove oil drain from underneath vehicle
  23. Install the mid aeroshield. See Undertray - Mid Aeroshield (Remove and Install).
  24. Lower vehicle partially and set lift onto locks

    Raise lift off locks, then hold lock release lever to keep locks free while vehicle is lowered, Set vehicle to comfortable working height
  25. Reconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  26. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  27. Reinstall the vehicle software. See Software Reinstall - Touchscreen.
  28. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  29. Remove the vehicle from the lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  30. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
