ABS Module and ESC Sensor - Hydraulic Control Unit (Remove and Install)

Remove

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  3. Place the vehicle into Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  4. On the vehicle touchscreen, navigate to Service Mode > Thermal > Refrigerant System.
  5. Touch Start Thermal Fill Drain (Coolant and Refrigerant) and allow the routine to complete.

    Allow the routine to complete. Make sure the routine is successful.
  6. Open the powered frunk.
  7. Remove all 4 wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  8. Remove the bolts (x6) that attach the lower valence.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)

    Release the covers to expose the bolts.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  9. Remove the front aeroshield. See Undertray - Front Aeroshield (Remove and Install).
  10. Disconnect the Cooling Fan Module (CFM) electrical connectors (x2).
  11. Place a coolant catch container below the RH front of he vehicle.
  12. Partially lower the vehicle.
  13. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  14. Remove the frunk assembly. See Frunk Assembly (Remove and Install).
  15. Remove the front center applique. See Front Grille and Applique - Front Center Applique Assembly (Remove and Install).
  16. Remove the front fascia. See Front Bumper Fascia - Front Fascia (Remove and Install).
  17. Remove the cooling fan module. See Fan and Radiator - Cooling Fan Module (Remove and Install).
  18. Disconnect the HCU electrical connector.

    Note
    Disengage the locking tab, and then pull up on the connector to release.
  19. Remove the flexible master cylinder brake lines (x2) from the HCU.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 14 mm combination wrench
  20. Remove the RH front brake line tube nut from the HCU.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 14 mm combination wrench
  21. Remove the LH rear brake line tube nut from the HCU.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 14 mm combination wrench
  22. Remove the RH rear brake line tube nut from the HCU.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 14 mm combination wrench
  23. Remove the LH front brake line tube nut from the HCU.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 14 mm combination wrench
  24. Remove the nuts (x3) that attach the HCU to the bracket.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  25. Remove the HCU from the bracket.

    x3 rubber washers

    Maneuver upward to clear the rubber washers from the bracket.

    Move brake pipes as needed to clear the area.

Install

  1. Install the HCU onto the bracket.

    x3 rubber washers

    Maneuver the rubber washers into the slots on the bracket.
  2. Install the nuts (x3) that attach the HCU to the bracket.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  3. Install the LH front brake line tube nut.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 14 mm combination wrench
  4. Install the RH rear brake line tube nut.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 14 mm combination wrench
  5. Install the LH rear brake line tube nut.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 14 mm combination wrench
  6. Install the RH front brake line tube nut.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 14 mm combination wrench
  7. Install the flexible master cylinder brake lines (x2) onto the HCU.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 14 mm combination wrench
  8. Connect the HCU electrical connector.

    Note
    Engage the electrical connector, and then secure the locking tab.
  9. Install the cooling fan module. See Fan and Radiator - Cooling Fan Module (Remove and Install).
  10. Install the front fascia. See Front Bumper Fascia - Front Fascia (Remove and Install).
  11. Install the front center applique. See Front Grille and Applique - Front Center Applique Assembly (Remove and Install).
  12. Perform the cooling system vacuum fill. See Cooling System (Vacuum Refill).
  13. Bleed all 4 brakes manually. See Brake Fluid Bleed - One Caliper.
  14. Bleed all 4 brakes using Toolbox. See Brake Fluid Bleed - One Caliper.
  15. Install the front aeroshield. See Undertray - Front Aeroshield (Remove and Install).
  16. Position the lower valance onto the vehicle, and then install the bolts (x6) that attach the valance to the vehicle.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  17. Install all 4 wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  18. Install the frunk assembly. See Frunk Assembly (Remove and Install).
  19. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  20. Close the powered frunk.
  21. Remove the vehicle from the lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  22. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  23. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
