Cybertruck electronics are powered by a 48V "mid voltage" or "MV" architecture that is designed to improve efficiency. Servicing MV components requires extra knowledge and care in order to avoid personal and/or vehicular harm. Read and understand MV precautions in Electrical Precautions and make sure any required MV-related training courses have been completed, as applicable.

Remove

  1. Open all the doors and lower all the windows.
  2. Put the vehicle in Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  3. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar mid trims. See A-B-C Positivet Interior Trim - A-Pillar Mid Trim - LH (Remove and Install).
  4. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar lower trims. See A-B-C Positivet Interior Trim - A-Pillar Lower Trim - LH (Remove and Install).
  5. Remove the footwell cover. See Dash Support Frame - Footwell Cover (Remove and Install).
  6. Remove the RH center floor rail. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - Center Floor Rail - LH (Remove and Install).
  7. Fold back the RH carpet.
  8. Lift the RH carpet support foam from the rear edge, and then remove the support foam from the vehicle.
  9. Remove the RH IP RH floor duct. See Passenger Ducting and Vents - IP Floor Duct RH (Remove and Install).
  10. Remove the RH front seat riser crossmember cover. See Front Seat Sliders and Controllers - 1R Seat Riser Crossmember Cover (Remove and Install).
  11. Remove the fasteners (x3) that attach the RH seat riser crossmember to the vehicle, release the clips (x3) that attach the harness to the crossmember, and then remove the crossmember from the vehicle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • 13 mm socket
  12. Remove the RH 1st row seat outboard riser bolt cover.
  13. Remove the front passenger carpet assembly.

    The plastic portions at the rear of the carpet need to clear risers.
  14. Remove the RH 2nd row floor duct.

    Lift up, and then pull away to release the duct from the Y duct.
  15. Move the LH and RH front seats fully forward.
  16. Open the powered frunk.
  17. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  18. Disconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  19. Slowly loosen the bolt that secures the locking cover to the RH controller, making sure that the cover separates from the controller squarely, and does not bind.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 8 mm socket

    Do not remove the locking cover.

    Do not remove locking cover. Loosen until the bolt spins freely.

    Make sure the bolt and locking cover are fully released before attempting to release the connectors.

    If the cover binds, tighten the bolt until the locking cover is square again, then loosen the bolt while holding the cover square to the controller.

    Use a power tool to loosen the bolt.

  20. Disconnect the backbone harness from the RH MV controller.
  21. If the vehicle is equipped with an MV backbone harness guide, continue to the next step. If the vehicle is not equipped with an MV backbone harness guide, skip to step 23.
  22. Release the clips that attach the MV backbone harness guide to casting, and then cut the electrical tape to remove the harness from the guide.

    CAUTION
    Be careful not to damage the harness while removing it from the harness guide.
  23. Release the harness clips (x3) that attach the backbone harness and cabin floor harness to the vehicle, and then feed the backbone harness under the cabin floor harness to release the front section of the backbone harness.

    The foremost clip will not be present if the vehicle is equipped with a backbone harness guide.
  24. Fold up the 2nd row 60 seat. Repeat this step for the 2nd row 40 seat.

    Pull the tether to release the seat cushion, and then lift up the cushion until locked in place.
  25. Remove the 2nd row floor mat.
  26. Partially release the LH lower C-pillar trim. Repeat this step for the RH lower C-pillar trim.

    x1 clip, x1 datum
  27. Remove the rear wall lower trim. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - End Item, Rear Wall Lower Trim, Soft Trim (Remove and Install).
  28. Remove the LH and RH lower B-pillar trims. See A-B-C Positivet Interior Trim - B-Pillar Lower Trim - LH (Remove and Install).
  29. Remove the LH and RH duct bezels. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - End Item, Duct Bezel, Soft Trim (Remove and Install).
  30. Remove the rear carpet assembly. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - End Item, Rear Carpet Assembly, Soft Trim (Remove and Install).
  31. Slowly loosen the bolt that secures the locking cover to the rear MV controller, making sure that the cover separates from the controller squarely, and does not bind.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 8 mm socket

  32. Disconnect backbone harness from rear MV controller.
  33. Release the backbone harness clips (x6), and then remove the backbone harness from the vehicle.

    Pull the harness through toward the 2nd row when removing from vehicle.

Install

  1. Install the backbone harness, and then secure it with harness clips (x6).

    Push the harness through to the 1st row front passenger seat.

    Make sure the harness is routed to the LH side of the cast ribbing.
  2. Inspect for any misalignment at rear ribs and apply abrasion tape if missing.

    Make sure the cable lays flat and is not twisted.

    Note
    Apply surface protection at the seam of the rearmost rib under backbone cable if missing. Use black anti-abrasion tape (PN: 1879451-99-A) if available. If black anti-abrasion tape is available, remove the red 3M VHB tape, and then apply the black anti-abrasion tape. If black anti-abrasion tape is not available, apply the red 3M VHB tape (PN: 1879451-00-B) over exposed seams.
  3. Connect backbone harness to the rear MV controller.
  4. Slowly tighten the bolt that secures the locking cover to the rear MV controller, making sure that the cover is square to the controller, and does not bind.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 8 mm socket

    If the cover binds, loosen the bolt until the locking cover is square again, then tighten the bolt while holding the cover square to the controller.
    Tip: While tightening the bolt, press the connector into the controller to keep it square.

  5. Install the rear carpet assembly. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - End Item, Rear Carpet Assembly, Soft Trim (Remove and Install).
  6. Install the LH and RH duct bezels. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - End Item, Duct Bezel, Soft Trim (Remove and Install).
  7. Install the LH and RH lower B-pillar trims. See A-B-C Positivet Interior Trim - B-Pillar Lower Trim - LH (Remove and Install).
  8. Install the rear wall lower trim. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - End Item, Rear Wall Lower Trim, Soft Trim (Remove and Install).
  9. Install the 2nd row floor mat.
  10. Secure the LH and RH lower C-pillar trims.

  11. Fold down the 2nd row 40 seat. Repeat this step for the 2nd row 60 seat.

    Pull the tether to release the seat cushion, and then pivot down the cushion until locked in place.

  12. Fasten the clips (x3) that attach the front section of the backbone harness.

    Pass the connector under the cabin floor harness.
  13. Remove any remaining tape from the casting and backbone harness.
  14. Remove and discard the front casting clip.
  15. Install the backbone harness guide onto the front casting.
  16. Position the backbone harness so that it lays flat on the harness guide, and then mark the positions at the front and rear edges of the harness guide on the harness.

    Push the backbone harness flat starting at lower edge. Make alignment marks from the backbone harness to the guide at the bottom then the top while pushing the backbone harness flat.
  17. Remove the backbone harness guide from the casting once marked.
  18. Starting from the lower edge of the harness guide, install the backbone harness onto the harness guide using the alignment marks made in the previous steps, and then use electrical tape to secure the harness to the guide.

  19. Secure the backbone harness and harness guide to the front casting.

    Make sure the rib groove is aligned and engaged correctly. Lower engagement will make an audible click when secured.
  20. Connect the backbone harness to the RH MV controller.
  21. Slowly tighten the bolt that secures the locking cover to the upper RH MV controller, making sure that the cover is square to the controller, and does not bind.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 8 mm socket

    If the cover binds, loosen the bolt until the locking cover is square again, then tighten the bolt while holding the cover square to the controller.
    Tip: While tightening the bolt, press the connector into the controller to keep it square.

  22. Connect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  23. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  24. Close the powered frunk.
  25. Move the RH front seat fully rearward.
  26. Install the RH 2nd row floor duct.

    Align the floor duct with the Y duct, and then push inward to engage.
  27. Install the RH front cabin carpet.

  28. Install the RH outboard riser bolt cover.
  29. Install the RH seat riser crossmember.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket

  30. Install the RH front seat riser crossmember cover. See Front Seat Sliders and Controllers - 1R Seat Riser Crossmember Cover (Remove and Install).
  31. Install the RH IP RH floor duct. See Passenger Ducting and Vents - IP Floor Duct RH (Remove and Install).
  32. Install the RH carpet support foam.

  33. Unfold the RH front cabin carpet into position.
  34. Install the RH center floor rail. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - Center Floor Rail - LH (Remove and Install).
  35. Install the footwell cover. See Dash Support Frame - Footwell Cover (Remove and Install).
  36. Install the RH lower A-pillar trim. See A-B-C Positivet Interior Trim - A-Pillar Lower Trim - LH (Remove and Install).
  37. Install the RH mid A-pillar trim. See A-B-C Positivet Interior Trim - A-Pillar Mid Trim - LH (Remove and Install).
  38. Restore the RH front seat back to its original position.
  39. Install the LH lower A-pillar trim. See A-B-C Positivet Interior Trim - A-Pillar Lower Trim - LH (Remove and Install).
  40. Install the LH mid A-pillar trim. See A-B-C Positivet Interior Trim - A-Pillar Mid Trim - LH (Remove and Install).
  41. Restore the LH front seat back to its original position.
  42. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  43. Raise all the windows and close all the doors.
