Remove
- Open all the doors and lower all the windows.
- Remove the front floor mats.
- Remove the RH 1st row seat assembly. See Front Seat Assemblies - 1st Row Seat Assembly - LH Drive - RH - Black (Remove and Install).
- Remove the front passenger carpet assembly. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - End Item, Passenger Carpet Assembly, Soft Trim (Remove and Install).
-
Release the clip that attaches the RH 2nd row floor duct to the vehicle, and then
remove the duct from the vehicle.
-
Slowly loosen the bolt that secures
the locking cover to the RH controller, making sure that the cover separates from the
controller squarely, and does not bind.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 8 mm socket
CAUTIONDo not remove the locking cover.NoteDo not remove locking cover. Loosen until the bolt spins freely.NoteMake sure the bolt and locking cover are fully released before attempting to release the connectors.NoteIf the cover binds, tighten the bolt until the locking cover is square again, then loosen the bolt while holding the cover square to the controller.NoteUse a power tool to loosen the bolt. -
Disconnect the backbone harness from
the RH MV controller.
- If the vehicle is equipped with an MV backbone harness guide, continue to the next step. If the vehicle is not equipped with an MV backbone harness guide, skip to step 11.
-
Release the clips that attach the MV
backbone harness guide to casting, and then cut the electrical tape to remove the
harness from the guide.
CAUTIONBe careful not to damage the harness while removing it from the harness guide.
-
Release the harness clips (x3) that
attach the backbone harness and cabin floor harness to the vehicle, and then feed the
backbone harness under the cabin floor harness to release the front section of the
backbone harness.
NoteThe foremost clip will not be present if the vehicle is equipped with a backbone harness guide.
- Remove the rear wall lower trim. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - End Item, Rear Wall Lower Trim, Soft Trim (Remove and Install).
-
Fold the rear carpet and hold the EPP
up temporarily.
NoteUse inflatable air bags or wheel chocks to suspend EPP.
-
Slowly loosen the bolt that secures
the locking cover to the rear MV controller, making sure that the cover separates from
the controller squarely, and does not bind.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 8 mm socket
NoteDo not remove locking cover. -
Disconnect backbone harness from rear
MV controller.
-
Release the backbone harness clips
(x6), and then remove the backbone harness from the vehicle.
NotePull the harness through toward the 2nd row when removing from vehicle.
Install
-
If missing, apply backbone harness
abrasion protection along the harness routing to cover the seams.
NoteAbrasion tape should be present in the 6 locations highlighted in the reference image.NoteApply narrow patch to the foremost position between the shoulder bracket ribs.NoteAbrasion protection tape dimensions is as follows:
- Wide patch dimensions: 50mm wide, 150mm long (PN: 1879451-99-A - LV ABRASION STICKER,XM,HVB,CTSB)
- Narrow patch dimensions: 25.4mm wide, 235mm long (PN: 1908543-99-A - LV ABRASION STICKER,SHOULDER BRACKET,HVB,CTSB)
NoteSkip this step if the abrasion protection is already present and installed correctly. -
Install the backbone harness, and then secure it with harness clips (x6).
NotePush the harness through to the 1st row front passenger seat.NoteMake sure the harness is routed to the LH side of the cast ribbing.
-
Connect backbone harness to the rear MV controller.
-
Slowly tighten the bolt that secures
the locking cover to the rear MV controller, making sure that the cover is square to the
controller, and does not bind.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 8 mm socket
NoteIf the cover binds, loosen the bolt until the locking cover is square again, then tighten the bolt while holding the cover square to the controller.Tip: While tightening the bolt, press the connector into the controller to keep it square. -
Inspect for any misalignment at rear
ribs and apply abrasion tape if missing.
NoteMake sure the cable lays flat and is not twisted.NoteApply surface protection at the seam of the rearmost rib under backbone cable if missing. Use black anti-abrasion tape (PN: 1879451-99-A) if available. If black anti-abrasion tape is available, remove the red 3M VHB tape, and then apply the black anti-abrasion tape. If black anti-abrasion tape is not available, apply the red 3M VHB tape (PN: 1879451-00-B) over exposed seams.
-
Fasten the clips (x3) that attach the
front section of the backbone harness.
NotePass the connector under the cabin floor harness.
-
Connect the backbone harness to the RH
MV controller.
-
Slowly tighten the bolt that secures
the locking cover to the upper RH MV controller, making sure that the cover is square to
the controller, and does not bind.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 8 mm socket
NoteIf the cover binds, loosen the bolt until the locking cover is square again, then tighten the bolt while holding the cover square to the controller.Tip: While tightening the bolt, press the connector into the controller to keep it square. -
Remove any remaining tape from the
casting and backbone harness.
-
Remove and discard the front casting
clip.
-
Install the backbone harness guide
onto the front casting.
-
Position the backbone harness so that
it lays flat on the harness guide, and then mark the positions at the front and rear
edges of the harness guide on the harness.
NotePush the backbone harness flat starting at lower edge. Make alignment marks from the backbone harness to the guide at the bottom then the top while pushing the backbone harness flat.
- Remove the backbone harness guide from the casting once marked.
-
Starting from the lower edge of the
harness guide, install the backbone harness onto the harness guide using the alignment
marks made in the previous steps, and then use electrical tape to secure the harness to
the guide.
NoteRefer to the image for electrical tape positions (x3).
-
Secure the backbone harness and
harness guide to the front casting.
NoteMake sure the rib groove is aligned and engaged correctly. Lower engagement will make an audible click when secured.
-
Position the RH 2nd row floor duct into the vehicle, and then secure the clip that
attaches the duct to the vehicle.
- Install the front passenger carpet assembly. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - End Item, Passenger Carpet Assembly, Soft Trim (Remove and Install).
- Install the rear wall lower trim. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - End Item, Rear Wall Lower Trim, Soft Trim (Remove and Install).
- Install the RH 1st row seat assembly. See Front Seat Assemblies - 1st Row Seat Assembly - LH Drive - RH - Black (Remove and Install).
- Install the front floor mats.
- Raise all the windows and close all the doors.
