Hose - Inverter to Heat Exchanger - Rear Drive Unit - LH (Tri Motor) (Remove and Install)

Cybertruck electronics are powered by a 48V "mid voltage" or "MV" architecture that is designed to improve efficiency. Servicing MV components requires extra knowledge and care in order to avoid personal and/or vehicular harm. Read and understand MV precautions in Electrical Precautions and make sure any required MV-related training courses have been completed, as applicable.

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Open the powered frunk.
  3. Open the tonneau cover.
  4. Open the tailgate.
  5. Place the vehicle into Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  6. Unlock the vehicle Gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  7. On the vehicle touchscreen, navigate to Service Mode > Diagnostics > Thermal, and then authorize thermal system routines by holding the right turn signal and depressing brake pedal for 10 seconds with key on phone dock.
  8. Touch Coolant System to enter the coolant circuit screen, touch Coolant Fill/Drain, the PROC_VCFRONT_X_START-THERMAL-FILL-DRAIN-COOLANTvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode Plus:
    • Drive Inverter ➜ Front Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Start Fluid Fill/Drain
    • Drive Inverter ➜ Rear Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Start Fluid Fill/Drain
    • Drive Inverter ➜ Rear Left Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Start Fluid Fill/Drain
    • Drive Inverter ➜ Rear Right Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Start Fluid Fill/Drain
    • Drive Unit ➜ Front Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Start Coolant Fill/Drain
    • Drive Unit ➜ Rear Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Start Coolant Fill/Drain
    window will appear, and then touch Run.

    Note
    Verify the indicator displays green for Coolant readiness. Thermal Fill Drain routine has a 50 minute time limit.
  9. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  10. Disconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  11. Raise the vehicle fully.
  12. Remove the bolts (x8) and clips (x6) that attach the mid aeroshield to the vehicle, and then remove the aeroshield from the vehicle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 15 mm socket
    • 13 mm socket
    • 10 mm socket
  13. Remove the rear aeroshield. See Undertray - Rear Aeroshield (Remove and Install)
  14. Position a coolant catch container underneath the rear drive unit.
  15. Lower the vehicle until the tires are touching the ground.
  16. Remove the bed floor assembly. See Truck Bed - Bed Floor Assembly (Remove and Install).
  17. Open the bed cargo tub lid.
  18. Remove the LH upper bed side wall assembly. See Truck Bed Exterior Trim - Upper Bed Side Wall Assembly - LH (Remove and Install).
  19. Remove the LH bed closeout. See Truck Bed - Rear Bed Closeout - LH (Remove and Install).
  20. Remove the LH bed side wall. See Bed Side Wall - Bed Side Wall - LH (Remove and Install).
  21. Remove the RH upper bed side wall assembly. See Truck Bed Exterior Trim - Upper Bed Side Wall Assembly - LH (Remove and Install).
  22. Remove the RH bed closeout. See Truck Bed - Rear Bed Closeout - LH (Remove and Install).
  23. Remove the RH bed side wall. See Bed Side Wall - Bed Side Wall - LH (Remove and Install).
  24. Remove the bed cargo tub. See Bed Cargo Tub - Bed Cargo Smugglers Bay (Remove and Install).
  25. Release the spring clips that secure the LH RDU inverter to chiller hose to the vehicle, remove the hose from the vehicle, and then plug all the fittings.

Install

  1. Install the LH RDU inverter to chiller hose into the vehicle, and then secure the spring clips.
  2. Perform cooling system vacuum refill. See Cooling System (Vacuum Refill).
  3. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  4. Install the bed cargo tub. See Bed Cargo Tub - Bed Cargo Smugglers Bay (Remove and Install).
  5. Install the RH bed side wall. See Bed Side Wall - Bed Side Wall - LH (Remove and Install).
  6. Install the RH bed closeout. See Truck Bed - Rear Bed Closeout - LH (Remove and Install).
  7. Install the RH upper bed side wall assemblies. See Truck Bed Exterior Trim - Upper Bed Side Wall Assembly - LH (Remove and Install).
  8. Install the LH bed side wall. See Bed Side Wall - Bed Side Wall - LH (Remove and Install).
  9. Install the LH bed closeout. See Truck Bed - Rear Bed Closeout - LH (Remove and Install).
  10. Install the LH upper bed side wall assemblies. See Truck Bed Exterior Trim - Upper Bed Side Wall Assembly - LH (Remove and Install).
  11. Close the bed cargo tub lid.
  12. Install the bed floor assembly. See Truck Bed - Bed Floor Assembly (Remove and Install).
  13. Close the tonneau cover.
  14. Close the tailgate.
  15. Raise the vehicle fully.
  16. Remove the coolant catch container from underneath the vehicle.
  17. Install the rear aeroshield. See Undertray - Rear Aeroshield (Remove and Install).
  18. Position the mid aero shield onto the vehicle, and then install the bolts (x8) and clips (x6) that attach the aeroshield to the vehicle.
    70 Nm (51.6 lbs-ft)
    28 Nm (20.6 lbs-ft)
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Apply Loctite 222 onto the mid aero shield bolts, and then install the fasteners.

    The 15 mm bolts (x3) are torqued to 70 Nm, 13 mm bolts (x3) to 28 Nm, and 10 mm bolts (x2) to 6 Nm.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 15 mm socket
    • 13 mm socket
    • 10 mm socket
  19. Lower the vehicle until the tires are touching the ground.
  20. Remove the vehicle from the lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  21. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  22. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
