Coil Spring Assembly - Front - LH (Standard) (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  3. Open the powered frunk.
  4. Place the vehicle into Service Mode Plus. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  5. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Install).
  6. Remove the frunk assembly. See Frunk Assembly (Remove and Install).
  7. Remove the bolt that attaches the remote brake fluid reservoir to the megabeam, and then remove the reservoir from the megabeam.

    Avoid tipping the reservoir over.

  8. Remove and discard the fasteners (x3) that attach the LH front coil spring assembly to the vehicle.

  9. Remove the LH front wheel cover. See Cover - Wheel (Long Range) (Remove and Install).
  10. Loosen the LH front halfshaft bolt.

  11. Remove the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  12. Remove and discard the LH front halfshaft bolt.

  13. Disconnect the harness electrical connectors (x2), and then release the clips (x2) and grommet that attach the harness to the coil spring assembly.

    Pull the grey tab, and then push down to release.
  14. Release the clips (x4) that attach the LH front coil spring assembly cover to the vehicle, and then release the coil spring assembly cover from the assembly.

    Leave the cover attached to the brake hose.
  15. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH front brake hose bracket to the knuckle, and then remove the bracket from the knuckle.

  16. Remove and discard the bolt that attaches the outer tie rod to the knuckle, and then remove the tie rod from the knuckle.

  17. Remove the bolts (x3) that attach the LH front lower control arm shield to the vehicle, and then remove the shield from the vehicle.

  18. Remove and discard the nut that attach the stabilizer bar to the LH link, and then disconnect the bar from the link.

    Counter hold the stud as needed.

  19. Position and raise a pole jack onto the LH front lower control arm.
  20. Use a spring compressor to compress the coil spring to remove preload.

    Make sure to compress the spring evenly.
  21. Remove the nut that attaches the LH front upper control arm to the knuckle.

  22. Lower and remove the pole jack from the LH front lower control arm.
  23. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the front coils spring assembly to the vehicle.

    Be prepared for some spring load to release from bushings.

  24. Push down on the knuckle assembly, and then lift the LH front coil spring assembly towards the rear and LH side of the vehicle to remove it from the vehicle.

    CAUTION
    Make sure no harnesses or lines remain attached.
  25. Decompress and remove the coil spring compressor from the coil spring assembly.

    Release each clamp evenly at the same time.

Install

  1. Use a spring compressor to compress the coil spring assembly to remove preload.

    Make sure to compress the spring evenly.
  2. While pulling the knuckle assembly downward, position the LH front coil spring assembly into the mounting hole.

    CAUTION
    Make sure the damper valves are facing the rear of the vehicle.

    Install via rear area of suspension.
  3. Install new nuts (x3) that attach the LH front coil spring assembly to the vehicle.

  4. Position the remote brake fluid reservoir to the megabeam, and then install the bolt.

    Make sure there is no fluid loss. Top off if needed.

  5. Position the LH damper to the lower control arm, and then install install the bolts (x2).

  6. Secure LH front halfshaft onto knuckle

    1x bolt, 24mm, Hand tight, Torque at later step, Hold knuckle against halfshaft then rotate hub until splines click, Engage splines then tighten bolt, If splines are properly engaged then hub will rotate halfshaft
  7. Position the LH front upper control arm to the knuckle, and then install a new nut that attaches the control arm to the knuckle.

  8. Decompress and remove the coil spring compressor.

  9. Position and raise pole jack onto the LH front lower control arm.
  10. Position the stabilizer bar to the link, and then install a new bolt that attaches stabilizer bar to the link.

  11. Position the outer tie rod to the knuckle, and then install a new nut that attaches the tie rod to the knuckle.

  12. Lower and remove the pole jack from the LH front lower control arm.
  13. Position the LH front brake hose bracket onto the knuckle assembly, and then install the bolt that attaches the bracket to the assembly.

  14. Position the LH front coil spring assembly cover to the vehicle, and then secure the clips (x4) that attach the cover to the vehicle.
  15. Connect the electrical connectors (x2), and then secure clips (x2) and grommet that attach the harness to the front coil spring assembly module.
  16. Position the LH front wheel onto the vehicle, and then install and hand tighten the lug nuts (x6).

  17. Lower vehicle until tires are touching the ground

    Raise lift off locks, then hold lock release lever to keep locks free while vehicle is lowered
  18. Torque the LH front halfshaft bolt.

    24mm, 300 Nm. Torque bolt through center of wheel
  19. Install the frunk assembly. See Frunk Assembly (Remove and Install).
  20. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Install).
  21. Install the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  22. Remove the vehicle from the lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  23. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
