Warning
Cybertruck electronics are powered by a 48V "mid voltage" or "MV" architecture that is designed to improve efficiency. Servicing MV components requires extra knowledge and care in order to avoid personal and/or vehicular harm. Read and understand MV precautions in Electrical Precautions and make sure any required MV-related training courses have been completed, as applicable.

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  3. Open the powered frunk.
  4. Open the tonneau cover.
  5. Open the tailgate.
  6. Place the vehicle into Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  7. Unlock the vehicle Gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  8. Access thermal system routines using the UI

    Select quick controls > Service mode > Diagnostics > Thermal, Authorize routines by holding right turn signal, depressing brake pedal for 10 seconds with key on phone dock
  9. Run ODIN routine PROC_VCFRONT_X_START-THERMAL-FILL-DRAIN-COOLANTvia Toolbox:(link)
  10. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Install).
  11. Disconnect MV power. See Mid-Voltage Power (Disconnect and Connect) (Modify).
  12. Raise vehicle fully and lower lift onto locks

    Set vehicle to comfortable working height, Ensure an audible click of locks on both sides is heard before lowering, Vehicle may tilt to the side if both locks are not engaged
  13. Remove the rear skid plate. See Skid Plate - Rear (Remove and Install).
  14. Remove the rear aero shield. See Aeroshield - Rear (Remove and Install).
  15. Lower vehicle partially and set lift onto locks

  16. Position coolant catcher below rear drive unit
  17. Lower vehicle until tires are touching the ground

  18. Remove the bed cargo tub lid. See Lid - Bed Cargo Tub (Remove and Replace).
  19. Remove the bed floor assembly. See Bed Floor Assembly (Remove and Install).
  20. Remove the LH rear bed closeout. See Bed Closeout - Rear - LH (Remove and Install).
  21. Remove the LH tonneau water management seal. See Water Management Seal - LH - Center - Tonneau (Remove and Install).
  22. Remove the LH upper bed side wall assembly. See Bed Side Wall Assembly - Upper - LH (Remove and Install).
  23. Remove the LH bed side wall. See Bed Side Wall - LH (Remove and Install).
  24. Repeat step 20 through step 23 for the RH side of the vehicle.
  25. Remove bolts securing bed cargo tub

    2x bolts, 10mm, 8 Nm
  26. Place shop rags underneath RDU LH heat exchanger
  27. Release RDU return hose from LH heat exchanger

    1x spring clip, 1x tree clip, Plug coolant connections as needed, Move aside as needed
  28. Release LH RDU inverter to chiller hose from heat exchanger

    1x spring clip, Clip will clash with casting but release enough to release connection, Plug coolant connections as needed
  29. Remove RDU LH heat exchanger

    2x bolts, EP10, 5 Nm +30 degrees

Install

  1. Clean area underneath RDU LH heat exchanger
  2. Install RDU LH heat exchanger

    2x bolts, EP10, 5 Nm +30 degrees, 2x O-rings, Lubricate O-rings with drive unit oil as needed, Verify seals are not damaged
  3. Secure LH RDU inverter to chiller hose onto heat exchanger

    1x spring clip, Remove plugs as needed
  4. Secure RDU return hose onto LH heat exchanger

    1x spring clip, 1x tree clip, Remove plugs as needed
  5. Remove shop rags from underneath RDU LH heat exchanger
  6. Raise vehicle fully

    Set to a comfortable working height, Lower to locks, Ensure locks engage on both sides to prevent tilting
  7. Position oil drain underneath RDU
  8. Remove oil fill plug from RDU

    1x plug, 8mm Allen, 15 Nm, Verify O-ring is not damaged, Replace O-ring as needed, Specified tools must be used to torque plug
  9. Set up fill kit with KAF1

    Fill oil generously to container as it will prevent underfill and additional air being injectedOnly use KAF1 fluid, Do not interchange or mix oil types
  10. Position oil pump hose into fill hole
  11. Pump fluid into RDU

    Gradually add fluid until it spills out of the fill port, Only use KAF1 fluid, Do not mix oil types, Note amount added, If more than 400mL is added then escalate a Toolbox session
  12. Remove oil pump hose from fill port

    Slide handle to the off position
  13. Spray area with brake cleaner and wipe any residual fluid
  14. Secure oil fill plug onto RDU

    1x plug, 8mm Allen, 15 Nm, Verify O-ring is not damaged, Replace O-ring as needed, Assemble tools and set torque wrench to 11 Nm, Specified tools must be used for this torque setting
  15. Remove oil drain from underneath vehicle
  16. Lower vehicle partially and set lift onto locks

  17. Remove coolant bottle cap
  18. Install coolant reservoir adaptor cap onto coolant bottle assembly
  19. Place empty coolant container into front storage area

    If frunk is not installed take caution, CFM fan shroud assembly cannot support a full coolant container, Ensure overflow container is empty, Place fender cover over FEM and front fascia
  20. Fill container with at least 15L of coolant
  21. Place filled coolant container onto coolant drain & fill cart

    Do not place container with 15L of coolant on top of CFM fan shroud, Position cart as close as possible to front of vehicle
  22. Setup coolant refill tool

    Verify all valves on refill tool are in the closed position, See image for clarity
  23. Install vacuum refill hose to refill cap on coolant bottle

    Perform push-pull-push test to verify hose is fully installed
  24. Position overflow hose into empty container
  25. Place refill hose inside filled coolant container

    Make sure hose end is fully submerged into coolant
  26. Connect shop air supply to coolant refill tool

    If not already done, Verify refill valve is set to off
  27. Open air inlet valve to draw a vacuum, Once gauge stabilizes, Fully close valve

    Gauge stabilizes roughly (60-70 cmHg), Vacuum should not drop after the valves are closed
  28. Slowly open the refill valve to allow coolant to be drawn into the system

    Make sure hose end of refill hose is fully submerged during entire process
  29. Once the gauge reads zero, close the coolant refill valve
  30. Remove shop air supply to coolant refill tool

    If not already done, Verify refill valve is set to off
  31. Remove coolant refill hose from coolant container
  32. Remove coolant overflow hose from coolant container
  33. Remove vacuum refill hose from refill cap on coolant bottle
  34. Remove vacuum refill cap from coolant bottle assembly
  35. Remove coolant refill tool from vehicle

    Move coolant drain & fill cart away from vehicle
  36. Remove coolant container from inside underhood area
  37. Reconnect MV power. See Mid-Voltage Power (Disconnect and Connect) (Modify).
  38. Select ‘Stop Thermal Fluid Fill/Drain’, click ‘Run’, and allow routine to complete

  40. Select ‘Actions' tab and search for "Oil Pressure"
  41. Select “TEST-SELF_DIR_X_OIL-PUMP-PRESSURE”, Click ‘Run’, and allow routine to pass
  42. Perform Thermal Performance through the UI

    Select Thermal > Actions > Test Thermal Performance, click Run, close once routine is completed
  43. Inspect coolant level and top off as necessary

  44. Install coolant bottle cap
  45. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Install).
  46. Close the powered frunk.
  47. Install bolts securing bed cargo tub

    2x bolts, 10mm, 8 Nm, Align tub as needed
  48. Install the RH bed side wall. See Bed Side Wall - LH (Remove and Install).
  49. Install the RH upper bed side wall assembly. See Bed Side Wall Assembly - Upper - LH (Remove and Install).
  50. Install the RH tonneau water management seal. See Water Management Seal - LH - Center - Tonneau (Remove and Install).
  51. Install the RH rear bed closeout. See Bed Closeout - Rear - LH (Remove and Install).
  52. Repeat step 48 through step 51 for the LH side of the vehicle.
  53. Install the bed floor assembly. See Bed Floor Assembly (Remove and Install).
  54. Install the bed cargo tub lid. See Lid - Bed Cargo Tub (Remove and Replace).
  55. Install the rear aero shield. See Aeroshield - Rear (Remove and Install).
  56. Install the rear skid plate. See Skid Plate - Rear (Remove and Install).
  57. Remove the vehicle from the lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  58. Select ‘Actions' tab and search for "Oil Pressure"
  59. Select “TEST-SELF_DIR_X_OIL-PUMP-PRESSURE”, Click ‘Run’, and allow routine to pass
  60. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  61. Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle.
  62. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
  63. Close the tonneau cover.
  64. Close the tailgate.
