Front Drive Unit Harness (Remove and Install)

Remove

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  3. Place the vehicle into Service Mode via the UI. See Service Mode.
  4. On the vehicle touchscreen, navigate to Service Mode > Thermal > Refrigerant System.
  5. Touch Start Thermal Fill Drain (Coolant and Refrigerant), and allow the routine to complete.

    Note
    Make sure the routine is successful.
  6. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  7. Remove the frunk assembly. See Frunk Assembly (Remove and Install).
  8. Disconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  9. Raise the vehicle fully.
  10. Remove the bolts (x6) that attach the lower valance to the body, and then remove the valance from the vehicle.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Release the covers to expose the bolts.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket

  11. Remove the front aeroshield. See Undertray - Front Aeroshield (Remove and Install).
  12. Disconnect the LH and RH CFM electrical connectors (x2) and release the harness clips.

  13. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the fore crossmember to the vehicle, and then remove the crossmember from the vehicle.
    90 Nm (66.4 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Push up on the CFM to release it. Use a hammer if needed.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 18 mm socket
  14. Release the clips (x5) that attach the lower portion of the front drive unit harness to the vehicle, and then release the connector locks and disconnect the electrical connectors (x2).

    Note
    Release the inverter connector lever lock, and then pivot the connector to remove.

  15. Place coolant catcher below the RH front of the vehicle.
  16. Lower the vehicle until the tires are touching the ground.
  17. Remove the center applique assembly. See Front Grille and Applique - Front Center Applique Assembly (Remove and Install).
  18. Remove the front fascia. See Front Bumper Fascia - Front Fascia (Remove and Install).
  19. Remove the spring clip, disconnect the radiator outlet hose from the radiator, and then plug the male and female fittings.
  20. Remove the spring clip, disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the radiator, and then plug the male and female fittings.
  21. Release the harness clips (x5) that attach the harness to the CFM, release the locking tab and disconnect the electrical connectors (x2), and then release the grommet and pull the harness through the frunk area.
  22. Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the CFM to the vehicle.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)

    Note
    The upper fasteners are accessible from the frunk area, and the lower fasteners are accessible through the sides of the CFM.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket

  23. With assistance, remove the CFM from underneath the vehicle.

    Note
    Make sure the harness is not pinched during removal.
  24. Release the connector lock and disconnect the front drive unit harness electrical connector, and then release the harness clip.
  25. Release the harness clips (x5), release the connector lock and disconnect the electrical connectors (x2), and then remove the front drive unit harness from the vehicle.

Install

  1. Position the front drive unit harness into the vehicle, connect the electrical connectors (x2) and engage the connector locks, and then secure the harness clips (x5).
  2. Connect the front drive unit harness electrical connector and engage the connector lock, and then install the harness clip.
  3. With assistance, maneuver the CFM from underneath the vehicle and into position..

    Make sure the harness is not pinched during installation.
  4. Connect the LH and RH CFM electrical connectors (x2) and secure the harness clips.

  5. Install the bolts (x4) that attach the CFM to the vehicle.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)

    Note
    The upper fasteners are accessible from the frunk area, and the lower fasteners are accessible through the sides of the CFM.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket

  6. Maneuver the electrical harness into position and secure the grommet, secure the harness clips (x5) that attach the harness to the CFM, and then connect the electrical connectors (x2) and engage the connector lock.
  7. Remove the plugs from the male and female fittings, connect the radiator inlet hose to the radiator, and then install the spring clip.

    Note
    Perform a push-pull-push test to make sure the hose is fully engaged.
  8. Remove the plugs from the male and female fittings, connect the radiator outlet hose to the radiator, and then install the spring clip.

  9. Install the front fascia. See Front Bumper Fascia - Front Fascia (Remove and Install).
  10. Install the center applique assembly. See Front Grille and Applique - Front Center Applique Assembly (Remove and Install).
  11. Raise the vehicle fully.
  12. Secure the clips (x5) that attach the lower portion of the front drive unit harness to the vehicle, and then connect the electrical connectors (x2) and engage the connector locks.

  13. Position the fore crossmember into the vehicle, and then install the bolts (x2) that attach the crossmember to the vehicle.
    90 Nm (66.4 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Lift the CFM away from the beam to aid in clearance. Install the beam by sliding rearwards.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 18 mm socket
  14. Install the front aeroshield. See Undertray - Front Aeroshield (Remove and Install).
  15. Position the lower valance to the vehicle, and then install the bolts (x6) that attach the valance to the vehicle..
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)

  16. Lower the vehicle until the tires are touching the ground.
  17. Remove the coolant bottle cap.
  18. Inspect coolant level and top off as necessary.

    Note
    Make sure that the fluid level is at the Max line.
  19. Connect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  20. On the vehicle touchscreen, navigate to quick controls > Service mode > Thermal > Actions to access the thermal system routines.
  21. Touch Stop Thermal Fill Drain and allow the routine to complete.

  22. Touch Start Coolant Air Purge and allow the routine to complete.
  23. Inspect coolant level and top off as necessary.

    Make sure that the fluid level is at the Max line.
  24. Install the coolant bottle cap.
  25. On the vehicle touchscreen, navigate to Thermal > Actions > Test Thermal Performance, touch Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  26. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  27. Install the frunk assembly. See Frunk Assembly (Remove and Install).
  28. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  29. Remove the vehicle from the lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  30. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
