Steering Column and Steering Feedback Actuator (Remove and Replace)

Remove
- Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
- Place the vehicle into Service Mode. See Service Mode.

Move the LH front seat fully
rearward.
- Open the RH front door and lower the RH front window.
- Open the powered frunk.
- Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Disconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
- Remove the LH mid A-pillar trim. See A-B-C Post Interior Trim - A-Pillar Mid Trim - LH (Remove and Install).

Partially remove the LH side lower
A-pillar primary seal.
- Remove the LH lower A-pillar trim. See A-B-C Post Interior Trim - A-Pillar Lower Trim - LH (Remove and Install).
- Remove the footwell cover. See Dash Support Frame - Footwell Cover (Remove and Install).
- Remove the center floor trim. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - Center Floor Trim (Remove and Install).
- Remove the accelerator pedal side trim. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - Pedal - Side Trim (Remove and Install).
- Remove the accelerator pedal. See Accelerator Pedal (Remove and Install).

Fold back the LH front cabin
carpet.

Lift up from the rear edge to remove
the LH carpet support foam.
- Remove the RH mid A-pillar trim. See A-B-C Post Interior Trim - A-Pillar Mid Trim - LH (Remove and Install).

Partially remove the RH front door
seal.
- Remove the RH lower A-pillar trim. See A-B-C Post Interior Trim - A-Pillar Lower Trim - LH (Remove and Install).
- Remove the IP mid panel assembly. See Dash Panel - IP Mid Panel Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Remove the instrument panel lower assembly. See Dash Panel - Instrument Panel Lower Assembly (Remove and Install).

Disconnect the instrument panel
harness electrical connectors (x3) from the steering column and release the clip.

Disconnect the steering feedback
actuator harness electrical connectors (x2).
NoteRelease the lever lock, and then pivot towards the center of vehicle to release the electrical connectors.

Remove the nuts (x4) that attach the
steering column assembly, and then place the steering column assembly on a suitable work
surface.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 13 mm socket
- Remove the driver airbag assembly. See Front Air Bags - Driver Airbag Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Remove the steering wheel. See Steering Column and Wheel - Steering Wheel Pur Heated (Remove and Install).
- Remove the steering column lower shroud. See Steering Column and Wheel - Shroud Lower Instrument Panel - Steering Column (Remove and Install).
- Remove the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM). See Steering Column and Wheel - Steering Column Control Module (Remove and Install).

Release the clips (x2) and the pull
the gap hider straight down to remove it.
- Remove the upper instrument panel gap hider. See Steering Column and Wheel - Instrument Panel - Gap Hider (Remove and Install).
- Remove the SBW jumper harness. See Harness - Steering Jumper (Remove and Install).

Remove the steering feedback actuator from the steering column.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 13 mm socket
- 3 mm (mini ratchet bit set 1450424-00-A)
Notex3 bolts, 20 Nm (13 mm); x2 set screws, 7 Nm (3 mm)
Install

Install the steering feedback actuator
onto the steering column.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 13 mm socket
- 3 mm (mini ratchet bit set 1450424-00-A)
Notex3 bolts, 20 Nm (13 mm); x2 set screws, 7 Nm (3 mm)NoteInstall new set screws first.NoteEnsure threadlocker is on the set screws before installation.NoteSlide the feedback actuator into original position, and then tighten the bolts. - Install the SBW jumper harness. See Harness - Steering Jumper (Remove and Install).
- Install the upper instrument panel gap hider. See Steering Column and Wheel - Instrument Panel - Gap Hider (Remove and Install).
- Install the steering column lower shroud. See Steering Column and Wheel - Shroud Lower Instrument Panel - Steering Column (Remove and Install).
- Install the SCCM. See Steering Column and Wheel - Steering Column Control Module (Remove and Install).
- Install the steering column lower shroud. See Steering Column and Wheel - Shroud Lower Instrument Panel - Steering Column (Remove and Install).
- Install the steering wheel. See Steering Column and Wheel - Steering Wheel Pur Heated (Remove and Install).
- Install the driver airbag assembly. See Front Air Bags - Driver Airbag Assembly (Remove and Install).

Install the steering column assembly
nuts (x4).Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 13 mm socket

Connect the steering feedback actuator
electrical connectors (x2). Secure the lever lock and the red locking tab once the
electrical connector is seated.

Connect the instrument panel harness
to steering column electrical connectors (x3) and fasten the clip.
NoteMake sure the electrical connector locking tabs are engaged.

- Install the IP mid panel assembly. See Dash Panel - IP Mid Panel Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Install the RH lower A-pillar trim. See A-B-C Post Interior Trim - A-Pillar Lower Trim - LH (Remove and Install).
- Install the RH mid A-pillar trim. See A-B-C Post Interior Trim - A-Pillar Mid Trim - LH (Remove and Install).

Secure the RH front door seal.

Install the LH carpet support foam.
Seat at the rear edge.

Unfold the LH front cabin carpet into
position.
- Install the accelerator pedal. See Accelerator Pedal (Remove and Install).
- Install the accelerator pedal side trim. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - Pedal - Side Trim (Remove and Install).
- Install the LH center floor rail. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - Center Floor Rail - LH (Remove and Install).
- Install the footwell cover. See Dash Support Frame - Footwell Cover (Remove and Install).
- Install the LH lower A-pillar trim. See A-B-C Post Interior Trim - A-Pillar Lower Trim - LH (Remove and Install).
- Install the LH mid A-pillar trim. See A-B-C Post Interior Trim - A-Pillar Mid Trim - LH (Remove and Install).

Secure the LH side lower A-pillar
primary seal.
- Connect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
- Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Close the powered frunk.
- Raise the RH front window and close the RH front door.
- Restore the LH front seat back to its original position.
- Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
- Reinstall the vehicle software. See Software Reinstall - Touchscreen.
- Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).

In Toolbox, click the
Actions tab, and then click "".
NoteSearch and click Find Center and Commission", and type "understand". Click Run and allow the routine to finish.NoteMake sure the result is passed.

Run the routine "".
NoteSearch and click Steering Column Calibration, then click Run, and then immediately proceed to the next step.
- Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
- Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
- Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
