Chargeport - Busbar (Long Range) (Remove and Install)

Cybertruck electronics are powered by a 48V "mid voltage" or "MV" architecture that is designed to improve efficiency. Servicing MV components requires extra knowledge and care in order to avoid personal and/or vehicular harm. Read and understand MV precautions in Electrical Precautions and make sure any required MV-related training courses have been completed, as applicable.

  1. Open tailgate

  2. Open LH front door

  3. Lower LH front window
  4. Open powered front trunk

  5. Using MCU open charge port door
  6. Power down vehicle via UI

    Verify EPBs are engaged, Select charge port icon to ensure drive state is disengaged then power down vehicle via Controls > Safety > Power Off
  7. Remove rear underhood apron

  8. Disconnect FRL connector then disconnect MV battery connector

    2x connectors, Release locking tab then disconnect FRL connector, Slide eCPA to left then lift lever to release MV battery connector, Early production trucks may have black FRL connector, Release eCPA by pushing down to unlock and slide red locking tab, Wait 2 minutes for electrical circuits to discharge before disconnecting modules
  9. Verify operation of multimeter

    Set multimeter to DC voltage, Confirm multimeter is properly measuring voltage by testing MV battery, Touch lightly and do not damage terminals
  10. Remove all items from pockets and ensure not wearing metal items
  11. Inspect HV insulating gloves

    Check gloves for damage prior to use, Refer to service document TN-15-92-003
  12. Put on HV insulating gloves and leather over gloves
  13. Verify there is no high voltage present at the charge port

    Measure B+ to B-, and B+ to Ground and B - to Ground, Place Alligator clip onto body panel
  14. Remove leather over gloves and HV insulating gloves
  15. Remove both LH rear fore and aft fender flares

  23. Remove LH upper bed side wall assembly

  25. Remove LH lower bed side wall

  26. Remove bolt securing busbar HV connector lid

  29. Remove connector from chargeport assembly

    1x connectors, Remove white locking tab, Depress tab to release connection from the charge port, Continue to pull off connector, The charge port connection is intended to disengage safety cap when released, Do not push down on red tab, Pull red tab to disengage lock, Pull again to release connector

  34. Remove chargeport and busbar from vehicle
  35. Clean HV connector contact surface of residual Penetrox

    Allow 1 minute dry time after removing Penetrox, New busbar comes with Penetrox applied to HV connector
  36. Apply Penetrox onto HV connector joints

    Apply 2 drops of Penetrox A-13 about 5mm in diameter to either side of the hole on both leads, Spread evenly to verify the contact surface is fully covered
  37. Position chargeport busbar assembly onto vehicle
  38. Install bolts securing charge port busbar kit to HV Header

  39. Perform Hioki resistance test at each HV joint from HV busbar lead to bolt head

    2x HV joints, When using Hioki tester, verify the meter has been properly adjusted and set prior to usageThe acceptable resistance is between 0.050 mΩ (50 μΩ) and 0.195 mΩ (195 μΩ).If the resistance is greater than 0.195 mΩ (195 μΩ), stop work and escalate the Toolbox session.If the resistance is lower than 0.050 mΩ (50 μΩ), reposition the probes and measure again.If the resistance is repeatedly between 0.00 mΩ and 0.050 mΩ (50 μΩ), hioki test passed, proceed to next step

  46. Install LH bed closeout panel

  55. Connect FRL connector then connect MV battery connector
