Remove

  1. Remove the tailgate assembly from the vehicle. See Closure Panels - Assembly - Tailgate (Remove and Install).
  2. Remove the tailgate lamp. See Tail Lights - Tailgate Lamp (Remove and Install).
  3. Remove the LH and RH tailgate cinching latches. See Tailgate Latch and Striker - LH Tailgate Cinching Latch (Remove and Install).
  4. Release the latching bracket and clips (x2) that attach the manual release cables to the tailgate assembly, and then remove the release cables from the tailgate.

    Note
    Release the latching bracket, and then slide it upward to remove.
  5. Remove the tailgate harness from the tailgate assembly. See Rear Fascia and Tail Gate Harnesses - Tailgate (Remove and Install).
  6. Remove the tailgate torsion rod from the tailgate assembly.

    Note the orientation of the flat edge on the torsion rod.

Install

  1. Install the tailgate torsion rod into the tailgate assembly.

    Note
    Make sure the flat edge is in the correct orientation, and then gently tap the rod with a hammer until it is in position.
  2. Install the tailgate harness into the tailgate assembly. See Rear Fascia and Tail Gate Harnesses - Tailgate (Remove and Install).
  3. Position the manual release cables onto the tailgate assembly, and then secure the latching bracket and clips (x2) that attach the release cables to the tailgate.
  4. Install the LH and RH tailgate cinching latches. See Tailgate Latch and Striker - LH Tailgate Cinching Latch (Remove and Install).
  5. Install the tailgate lamp. See Tail Lights - Tailgate Lamp (Remove and Install).
  6. Install the tailgate assembly into the vehicle. See Closure Panels - Assembly - Tailgate (Remove and Install).
