Remove
- Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
- Open the tailgate.
- Close the tonneau cover.
- Remove the tailgate assembly from the vehicle. See Tailgate Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Remove the tailgate inner cover. See Cover - Inner - Tailgate (Remove and Install).

Loosen the bolt that secures the
tailgate torsion rod to the tailgate assembly, but do not remove the bolt from the
assembly.
TipUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 13 mm socket

Remove the tailgate torsion rod from
the tailgate assembly.
NoteNote the orientation of the flat edge on the torsion rod.
Install

Torque the bolt that secures the
tailgate torsion rod bracket to the tailgate assembly.
55 Nm (40.6 lbs-ft)NoteThe bracket bolt must be torqued down to ensure proper torsion rod alignment.NoteDo not remove the bolt.TipUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:- 15 mm socket

Install the tailgate torsion rod into
the tailgate assembly.
NoteMake sure the flat edge is in the correct orientation, and then gently tap the rod with a hammer until it is in position.

Torque the bolt that secures the
tailgate torsion rod to the tailgate assembly.
80 Nm (59.0 lbs-ft)CAUTIONMake sure the torsion rod bracket bolt (step 1) is torqued before tightening this fastener. The bracket bolt must be torqued down to ensure proper torsion rod alignment.TipUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:- 13 mm socket
- Install the tailgate assembly into the vehicle. See Tailgate Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Close the tonneau cover.
- Close the tailgate.
- Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
