Tailgate Torsion Rod (Remove and Install)

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Open the tailgate.
  3. Close the tonneau cover.
  4. Remove the tailgate assembly from the vehicle. See Tailgate Assembly (Remove and Install).
  5. Remove the tailgate inner cover. See Cover - Inner - Tailgate (Remove and Install).
  6. Loosen the bolt that secures the tailgate torsion rod to the tailgate assembly, but do not remove the bolt from the assembly.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  7. Remove the tailgate torsion rod from the tailgate assembly.

    Note
    Note the orientation of the flat edge on the torsion rod.

Install

  1. Torque the bolt that secures the tailgate torsion rod bracket to the tailgate assembly.
    50 Nm (36.9 lbs-ft)

    The bracket bolt must be torqued down to ensure proper torsion rod alignment.

    Do not remove the bolt.

    TIp
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 15 mm socket
  2. Install the tailgate torsion rod into the tailgate assembly.

    Note
    Make sure the flat edge is in the correct orientation, and then gently tap the rod with a hammer until it is in position.
  3. Torque the bolt that secures the tailgate torsion rod to the tailgate assembly.
    75 Nm (55.3 lbs-ft)

    The bracket bolt must be torqued down to ensure proper torsion rod alignment.

    Do not remove the bolt.

  4. Install the tailgate assembly into the vehicle. See Tailgate Assembly (Remove and Install).
  5. Close the tonneau cover.
  6. Close the tailgate.
  7. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
