Cabin HVAC - HVAC Distribution (Remove and Install)

Remove

  1. Open all the doors and lower all the windows.
  2. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  3. Place the vehicle into Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  4. Remove the center console rear panel. See Center Console - Back Panel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  5. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the rear of the center console to the riser.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)

  6. Move the LH and RH front seats fully rearward.
  7. Disconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  8. Remove the center console assembly. See Center Console - Center Console Assembly (Remove and Install).
  9. Remove the center display assembly. See Touchscreen - Center Display Assembly (Remove and Install).
  10. Remove the front header trim. See Headliner Trim - Front Header Trim (Remove and Install).
  11. Remove the LH mid A-pillar trim. See A-B-C Post Interior Trim - A-Pillar Mid Trim - LH (Remove and Install).
  12. Remove the LH lower A-pillar trim. See A-B-C Post Interior Trim - A-Pillar Lower Trim - LH (Remove and Install).
  13. Remove the footwell cover. See Dash Support Frame - Footwell Cover (Remove and Install).
  14. Remove the LH center floor rail. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - Center Floor Rail - LH (Remove and Install).
  15. Remove the accelerator pedal side trim. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - Pedal - Side Trim (Remove and Install).
  16. Remove the accelerator pedal. See Accelerator Pedal (Remove and Install).
  17. Fold back the LH front cabin carpet.
  18. Remove the LH upper A-pillar trim. See A-B-C Post Interior Trim - A-Pillar Upper Trim - LH (Remove and Install).
  19. Remove the LH IP quarter panel. See Dash Panel - Quarter Panel Assembly - LH (Remove and Install).
  20. Remove the LH quarter glass demist duct. See Passenger Ducting and Vents - Quarter Glass Demist Duct, LH (Remove and Install)
  21. Remove the RH mid A-pillar trim. See A-B-C Post Interior Trim - A-Pillar Mid Trim - LH (Remove and Install).
  22. Remove the RH lower A-pillar trim. See A-B-C Post Interior Trim - A-Pillar Lower Trim - LH (Remove and Install).
  23. Remove the RH center floor rail. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - Center Floor Rail - LH (Remove and Install).
  24. Fold back the RH carpet.
  25. Remove the RH upper A-pillar trim. See A-B-C Post Interior Trim - A-Pillar Upper Trim - LH (Remove and Install).
  26. Remove the RH IP quarter panel. See Dash Panel - Quarter Panel Assembly - LH (Remove and Install).
  27. Remove the RH quarter glass demist duct. See Passenger Ducting and Vents - Quarter Glass Demist Duct, LH (Remove and Install)
  28. Remove the center floor trim. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - Center Floor Trim (Remove and Install).
  29. Remove the push clips (x2) and release the edge clips (x2) and retaining clips (x2) that attach the center floor upper bracket to the vehicle, and then remove the bracket from the vehicle.
  30. Remove the 2nd row dual duct on rails.

    Pull from the bottom to separate.
  31. Remove the mid instrument panel assembly. See Dash Panel - IP Mid Panel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  32. Partially release the instrument panel defrost grille.

    Use a trim tool to gently lift the front edge of defrost grille upwards until enough space is available to insert an inflatable airbag. Insert an airbag at each side of defrost grille, then inflate to provide clearance to access the instrument panel bolts (x2).
  33. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the steering column bracket to the vehicle.
    15 Nm (11.1 lbs-ft)

  34. Remove the LH supercarrier assembly side bolts (x2).
    32 Nm (23.6 lbs-ft)

  35. Loosen the LH upper bolt that attaches the supercarrier to the vehicle.

  36. Release the connector locks, disconnect the instrument panel and steering harness electrical connectors (x4) at the LH side, and then release the harness clips (x2).

    Tuck the harness into the supercarrier to avoid snagging during removal.
  37. Remove the RH supercarrier assembly side bolts (x2).
    32 Nm (23.6 lbs-ft)

  38. Loosen the RH upper bolt that attaches the supercarrier to the vehicle.

  39. Slowly loosen the bolt that secures the lower locking cover to the RH controller, making sure that the cover separates from the controller squarely, and does not bind.

    Do not remove locking cover. Loosen until the bolt spins freely.

    Make sure the bolts and locking cover are fully released before attempting to release the connectors.

    If the cover binds, tighten the bolt until the locking cover is square again, then loosen the bolt while holding the cover square to the controller.

  40. Release the connector locks, disconnect the instrument panel harness electrical connectors (x4) at the RH side, and then release the harness clips (x2).

    Each connector has two tabs, one on the top right side and one on the left lower side of the connector head. Both tabs must be pressed inwards for the connector head to clear the locking cover and release successfully.

    Use a pocket screwdriver to press one of the connector tabs while pressing the other tab by hand.
  41. Release the connector locks, disconnect the instrument panel harness electrical connectors (x5) from the car computer, and then release the harness clip.

    Tuck the harness into the supercarrier to avoid snagging during removal.
  42. Place a fender cover over the center of the 1st row seats.
  43. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the supercarrier to the downleg brackets.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)

  44. With assistance, remove the instrument panel assembly from the front bulkhead.

    Pull the assembly rearward to release the datums, and then lay the assembly back onto the 1st row seats.

    Be careful not to damage the seats.
  45. With assistance, remove the instrument panel assembly from the vehicle.

    Carefully maneuver the assembly out of the vehicle, and then place it onto a padded portable bench.

    Orient the assembly as required for component access.
  46. Release the clips (x2) that attach the LH side window demist duct to the instrument panel assembly, release the harness clip and disconnect the electrical connector, and then remove the duct from the assembly.
  47. Remove the LH inboard instrument panel floor duct from the HVAC case.
  48. Release the clips (x2) that attach the LH airwave duct to the HVAC distribution assembly, and then slide the duct outboard to provide clearance fort he HVAC distributor removal.
  49. Separate the HVAC distributor harness from the instrument panel harness.

    Release the clip, and then pull the harness down as required for access.
  50. Remove the bolts (x5) that attach the HVAC distributor to the supercarrier assembly.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

    Pull the supercarrier assembly inward to allow the HVAC to separate and pass the IP harness through.

  51. Remove the HVAC distributor from the instrument panel assembly.

Install

  1. Position the HVAC distributor into the instrument panel.

    Align with vents on the passenger side, and then twist downwards to align the datums to the supercarrier.
  2. Install the bolts (x5) that attach the HVAC distributor to the supercarrier assembly.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  3. Secure the HVAC harness to the instrument panel harness.

    Note
    1x clip, Tuck harness into supercarrier to avoid snags during install.
  4. Position the LH panel duct to the HVAC distribution duct, and then secure the clips (x2).

    Rotate the panel duct downward, and then seat it onto the HVAC outlet duct.
  5. Install the LH inboard IP floor duct onto the HVAC case.

    Secure the duct to the outboard floor duct, and then the HVAC duct outlet.
  6. Position the LH side window demist duct into the vehicle, and then install the clips (x2) that attach the duct to the vehicle.

    Make sure the duct is seated over the HVAC case correctly to avoid circulation problems.

  7. With assistance, position the instrument panel assembly into the vehicle.

    Use caution to avoid damage to components.
  8. With assistance, position the instrument panel assembly onto the front bulkhead, and then install and hand-tighten the fasteners (x4).

  9. Inspect along the length of the assembly to ensure no harnesses, ducts, etc. have become pinched behind the instrument panel assembly.
  10. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the supercarrier to the downleg brackets.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)

  11. Remove the fender cover from the center of the 1st row seats.
  12. Connect instrument panel harness electrical connectors (x5) at the car computer, engage the connector locks, and then secure the harness clip.

    Pull the harness down from the carrier as needed.
  13. Connect the instrument panel harness electrical connectors (x4) to the RH controller, engage the connector locks, and then secure the harness clips (x2).

    Press inwards gently on the blue connectors to verify housings are correctly engaged with locking frame.

    Locking cover should be in a released position.

    Carefully insert the connector through the locking cover, and then gently wiggle the connector head to ensure it is correctly inserted.

    Make sure the pins on the connector are aligned before fastening the locking cover bolts.

    The connector should be slightly loose, but the tab engagement will prevent it from being disconnected.
  14. Slowly tighten the bolts that secures the locking cover to the RH controller, making sure that the cover is square to the controller, and does not bind.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)

    If the cover binds, loosen the bolt until the locking cover is square again, then tighten the bolt while holding the cover square to the controller.

  15. Install the RH supercarrier assembly side bolts (x2).

  16. Connect the instrument panel and steering harness electrical connectors (x4) at the LH side, engage the connector locks, and then secure the harness clips (x2).

  21. Deflate and remove the airbags in the instrument panel defrost grille, and then push down along the top surface of the grille to secure the clips.
  22. Install the mid instrument panel assembly, but do not install the LH mid A-pillar trim yet. See Dash Panel - IP Mid Panel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  23. Install the 2nd row dual duct on rails.

    Maneuver as needed through the foam insert.
  24. Position the center floor upper bracket into the vehicle, and then install the clips (x6) that attach the bracket to the vehicle.

  46. Reconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  47. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  48. Perform Handwheel calibration. See Set Handwheel Zero.
  49. On the vehicle touchscreen, navigate to Service Mode Plus > Chassis > Steer by Wire.
  50. Tap PEPS > Front Rack Calibration, and then tap Run and allow routine to complete.

  51. On the vehicle touchscreen, navigate to Service Mode Plus > Actions > Thermal.
  52. Tap Test Thermal Performance, tap Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  53. Tap Test HVAC Performance, tap Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  54. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  55. Restore the LH and RH front seats back to their original position.
  56. Raise all the windows and close all the doors.
