Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle on a 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  3. Remove the LH rear wheel cap. See Wheel Cover - Front - LH (Remove and Install).
  4. Loosen the LH rear lug nuts (x6).
    205 Nm (151.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 21 mm socket
  5. Loosen the LH rear halfshaft bolt.
    200 Nm (147.5 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 24 mm socket
  6. Fully raise the vehicle.
  7. Remove the LH rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  8. Remove the LH rear halfshaft bolt.
    200 Nm (147.5 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 24 mm socket
  9. Disconnect the EPB harness electrical connector from the LH rear brake caliper.

    Release the locking tab.
  10. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH rear brake line to the upper control arm.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  11. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the LH rear brake caliper to the knuckle, and then set it aside.
    150 Nm (110.6 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 21 mm socket

    Note
    Hang the caliper from the body with an S-hook.

    Note
    Route the caliper hose so that it does not get caught on the stabar assembly.
  12. Remove the nylon nut that attaches the LH rear upper control arm to the knuckle.
    150 Nm (110.6 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 21 mm socket

    Note
    Discard the nylon nut after removal.

    CAUTION
    Move the brake hose aside to avoid damage.

    Use caution when releasing the rear upper control from the knuckle.
  13. Set up the halfshaft removal tool around the LH rear inner halfshaft.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket

    x1 U-bolt, x2 nuts

    Torque hand-tight.

    Note
    Wrap the cable around the inner joint, and then tighten with U-bolt.
  14. Remove the LH rear halfshaft from the vehicle.

    Use slide hammer with cable eyelets to release.

    CAUTION
    To avoid damage to the halfshaft boots and oil seals, exercise caution when removing.

Install

  1. Install the LH rear halfshaft.

    Note
    Position the C-clip opening at the bottom of the axle to ease installation.

    CAUTION
    Make sure the axle is fully seated into drive unit. Straighten axle and apply pressure to opposite end until an audible click is heard, Audible click indicates the C-clip is fully engaged. If audible click is not heard, then adjust the halfshaft position and reinstall.
  2. Install a new nylon nut that attaches the LH rear upper control arm to the knuckle.
    150 Nm (110.6 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 21 mm socket

    Note
    Counter-hold the joint to install the nut. Support suspension to ease installation.

    Make sure the brake hose is properly routed.
  3. Engage the LH rear halfshaft to the LH rear hub assembly, and then install and hand-tighten the halfshaft bolt until the bolt flange is seated on the hub.

    Note
    After positioning the halfshaft against the hub, rotate the hub until the splines click. If splines are properly engaged, the hub will rotate halfshaft.

    Note
    With the halfshaft properly engaged with the hub assembly, tighten the bolt so that the bolt flange is seated on the hub. This will prevent accidental spline disengagement until the bolt is torqued.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 24 mm socket
  4. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the LH rear brake caliper to the LH rear knuckle.
    150 Nm (110.6 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 21 mm socket
  5. Install the bolt that attaches the LH rear brake line to the upper control arm.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  6. Connect the LH rear EPB harness electrical connector.

    Engage the locking tab.
  7. Hand tighten the LH rear wheel lug nuts.

    Tightening of the wheel lug nuts will be done later in this procedure.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 21 mm socket
  8. Lower the vehicle until the tires are touching the ground.
  9. Torque the LH rear halfshaft bolt.
    200 Nm (147.5 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 24 mm socket
  10. Install the LH rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  11. Install the LH rear wheel cap. See Wheel Cover - Front - LH (Remove and Install).
  12. Remove the vehicle from the lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  13. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
